Posted By not2needy 1 year, 5 months ago in NewsA simmering feud between Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama erupted into charges of distortion and exaggeration in a gloves-off presidential debate Monday, with Clinton accusing him of representing a Chicago slumlord and Obama countering that she was a corporate lawyer for anti-union Wal-Mart.

FTA:
As Obama tried to defend his recent comments about Republican ideas and Ronald Reagan, Clinton interrupted and said she has never criticized his remarks on Reagan.
"Your husband did," said Obama, who has accused the former president of misrepresenting his record.
"I'm here. He's not," she snapped.
It's being reduced to personal attacks. This really disturbs me!

What do you expect from the Clintons?

Bill Clinton stood before the entire nation and wagged his finger at the TV cameras. "I did not have sex with that woman" he intoned, referring to Monica Lewinsky. We all now know the truth and we all now know he lied through his teeth. WHY is anybody convinced that his statements now are the truth and not just an attempt to get back into power? How stupid are we supposed to be?

I'm sad because I really think this is beneath them and it's totally media fueled crap. I flip over to CNN and on *any* night out of the week, when Wolf Blitzer or some other Bush wipe isn't cheerleading the illegal occupation of Iraq, they're yapping "race" this or "race" that about Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. They're like some freakin rabid chihuahuas pretending to be journalists.

I loved his response: "It's hard to tell sometimes who I'm running against."

"Obama told the former first lady he was helping unemployed workers on the streets of Chicago when "you were a corporate lawyer sitting on the board at Wal-Mart."
To be fair Hillary Clinton was asked to be on Wal-Mart's board cause she was the Governor's wife. Its not like she applied for the job or Wal-Mart sought her out for her legal "expertise".
"Hillary Clinton was paid $18,000 each year she served on the board, plus $1,500 for each meeting she attended. By 1993 she had accumulated at least $100,000 in Wal-Mart stock."
Its not like she actually did anything for Wal-Mart.

I watched the debate.... a good one. Obama and Clinton clashed a bit....it could have been worse. I like Obama... new... fresh. Though I would have to say Clinton is strong and determined.

Yeah, Obama is my number one choice for Democrats to nominate. I really don't want to take the chance of Clinton getting in... she's far to partisan a figure in Washington in my opinion. We'll have the GOP stonewalling alot because I think were going to see another shift in Congress either this election or the next one. If I could find a third party that looked likely I'd say the shift will favor them, but I think it will probably go to simply non-incumbents from either party, GOP or otherwise. I'm to confused to really call congress in the next few years beyond I think were going to see alot of incumbents go. But I don't think Hillary will do well, she's determined but the GOP is as well. There both pretty good at the dirty tactics. The contest of wills is something I'd rather not see due to simple partisan bickering. Clinton appears to partisan to be effective IMO. I'd like to see Romney against Obama in November. Obama is far less polarizing and can get congress behind him imo

Edwards had a tough time getting into the mix. I have no problem with the candidates mixing it up a little bit. It'll sharpen their instincts for the onslaught from the right wingers.

Edwards has never shown me anything. In the last election they were saying how he would use his experience as a trial lawyer to handle Chaney in the debates, Chaney ate him alive. There were so many points he could have made and didn't say a thing.

I have to admit that Obama is a much smarter campaigner than Hillery. He avoids public displays of anger, which is very smart.

I think Obama will be lucky to carry any southern states, (but that's not to say it couldn't happen).
HOWEVER, I believe the states in the west - Nevada and New Mexico, to give a couple of examples - will hold the key to who wins the next election. And let not forget the popular votes in SEVERAL states won by Bush in 2004 were by razor thin margins. So anything could happen. The truth is, WE DON'T KNOW...
I will say this: if the race IS between Obama and ANY REPUBLICAN RUNNING, Obama wins.
With Hillary, I'm not so sure, especially if she is up against McCain (especially since people like me and many others will vote for a 3rd party candidate - like Mike Bloomberg - if she is the Democratic nominee).

It saddens me to read that, Scott - that you and others would vote independent rather than vote for Hillary. She is definitely not my first choice, but she would certainly be far better to me than another reslugnicon administration! Voting independent if Hillary is the nominee will most certainly ensure another reslugnicon in the white house. I implore you and all others with that mindset to reconsider.
If she gets in and asks Obama to be on the ticket with her, I think he would still have a positive influence on the direction in which this country heads. My preference, by far though, is that he win the nomination.

I like Obama and i think Hillary and Bill are double teaming him, his statement FTA: I can't tell who I'm running against sometimes," Obama countered.----
I know Bill is going to counsel Hillary, that's to be expected, but it's very bad sportsmanship for them to double team Obama, he doesn't have his wife there attacking Bill!
Reply-

ConquerorWyrm1 year, 5 months ago
If the big wheel spins properly, that tactic of double teaming should back fire on the Clintons. If he becomes much more involved, then Obama's comment rings truer and who ends up looking good here and who bad? If she's running on her merits and Bill starts bucking, chompin' for a good old time being that it's not his campaign, then she's going to be quickly overshadowed. She'll aslo be made to look foolish. What she should do is lock Bill in a room with an intern for the next year so he can't really screw things up.

Politics is not a sport and you don't turn your cheek for another hit. McClain did that against Bush and look where it got him. As for Bill going after Obama, it's politics! You get your surrogates to hit your opponents so you look clean. You don't like it, say so, like Obama's been doing. Tough it out and fight back. Shows your mettle and backbone.

I thought the barbs between Obama and Clinton were personal in nature and not really driven by policy differences...petty bull crap if you will. Frankly, I was a little disappointed with both of them.
Overall though, I would pretty much score it a tie between the two...no real changes...look for Obama to carry South Carolina by 10 percentage points on Saturday.

I give Obama better odds of beating a Republican candidate than Hillary. The Clintons are just plain slimey. You can bet the GOP will go after her using all of her past actions.
Reply-

not2needy1 year, 5 months ago
They probably would go after her for her actions and a few actions they made up. They're good at making things up as they go along! Most of the GOP have plenty in their past too so they should watch out, family values and abortion is only going to get them so far this time. They have used that same tired campaign for the last 50 years.

I heard Hillery disavow the rumor that her supporters were spreading about Obama attending a Madrasa by repeating the story about four times in the course of the speech in which she "disavowed" it. What message do you think stuck with the public?

If I had been Obama, he brought up her association with Walmart and she threw back at him that brief period when he worked for someone (for a good purpose) who turned out to be a slum lord (assuming that is true), I would've had told her: Well, perhaps that is forgiveable, Hillary, since you say I have no experience, but with those 35 years you keep trotting out, what's your excuse?

I wish they would be more civil. Besides the stark philosophical differences between the dems and the repugs, the nastiness is a repug trait that we shouldn't be wallowing in.
For the prognosticators in the repug primary. Find out who Diebold supports and you will have your winner.
Reply-

Mdiar1 year, 5 months ago
I negged you simply because you can't talk about being civil and then begin to be completely uncivil to the Republican Party, many of whom don't support the current actions of Bush any more then Democrats do. If you feel you have something against them then don't stoop to the level of whoever has insulted you in this way, be the better person.

Oh please! There's been plenty of sliminess and nastiness coming from ALL sides.
If you really think it just a republican thing, you either are blinded by your partisanship, are very, very young, or just have not been paying attention.

That's really not fair of Barack to point this out. Everyone knows Hillary was just a WINO during those years on the board.

billery wouldnt get 2/3rds the votes that she is getting if it wasnt for her husband.I was channel surfing last night and the news guy said that Oboma and Clinton exchanged words, so i left it on that channel to see what they said. The news people had a picture of Bill super imposed over Obama. Make no mistake obama is running againt a machine and a former person and they will stop at nothing to get there office back.

I hope the mud slinging wraps up soon, I felt that Barack would be above this but when people (Bill) starts spreading lies about things it seems the only defense is get down and get dirty, something I feel that the Clintons are very good at. If the Dems don't get back to the issues the outcome in the long run is giong to hurt their presidential chances.
