Askari, a Bangladeshi Muslim studying at Berkeley College in Manhattan, was on a Q train headed to Brooklyn late Friday when he came to the aid of young women confronted by a group of 10 thugs."I did what I thought was right," said Hassan Askari, 20. "I did the best that I could to help."

I don't get tired of this old story. May it continue to circulate to let us know that all Muslims AREN'T selfish monsters believing the insane notion they can attain virgins by dying in trying to kill those they see as infidels.

We need stories like this to help keep people real, so that they don't become invisible by stereotypes due to fear-based hostility.

Good, every once in awhile a civil ray of light penetrates the dank verbage and double entendres of politics and religion to remind us all that no matter the religion or politics or absence thereof we are all basically human and some simply exhibit this humanness without question or remorse.
We should all be so brave and honest.

In the artical they said that this is what is positive about New York. This could be positive about the world if we would let it. There are good people though out the world, sometimes we just chose not to see them. Good story, it always makes my day when we see the best come out in people.

"Enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong." It is the duty of every Muslim to intervene if he/she can in case of injustice or thuggery. Wherever injustice and oppression, a Muslim is advised to intervene directly or call others for help, in case if he cannot find help or he is weak then the final option is that he should pray to God to change that condition. Here he did fulfill one of the obligation to God and it is his duty to protect the weak and helpless if he has the strength and power.

While I applaud Askari... and am really pleased to have read this uplifting story... I worry that what SHOULD be common-place...is sadly the exception instead of the rule...
If there were more people willing to live ethical lives, like our hero, we would have less thugism in this world.

He doesn't appear to have been in New York long. But he's brave and honorable.
However the quote, ""That a random Muslim kid helped some Jewish kids, that's what's positive about New York," said Adler, 23" reinforces my belief that because we choose to identify with our own groups so much we fail to recognize that most others are actually just like us. The kid did what was right, even at great peril to himself. And why not? He's a human being.

don't U see a monster when u stand in front of a mirror, mutainia? i think that's why u are so full of hatred. u think the world is being unfair to you..

good point corner, maybe because u people automatically think all muslims are terrorists when a headline read the opposite of these kinds of news? why can't this be an evidence that not all muslims keen on violence? or do u just select news that stress on the bad of muslims alone and then believe it right away?
