Seems Hillary isnt willing to give the same level of disclosure to the voters that Barack is... Should have expected this. Especially with her new strategy of trying to paint Obama as the "Establishment" candidate. If she disclosed her tax returns that entire strategy would belly flop instantly.

I'm just stunned this is still a story of burning interest to cons when Bushco is spying on them, making secret deals with the energy corps, hiding millions of e-mails, billions in stolen Iraq occupation money and lord knows what else, It's like right wingers live in a parallel universe. Did any of them hold Chimp to these standards prior to voting for him TWICE? The answer is HELL NO.

Why is she putting up certain conditions on this inquiry? What doe she got to hide? It seems like all she done in NY is make a lucrative book deal. I don't hear nothing else from her.

Hillary didn't do much at all for NY. She's not doing much of anything right now. Her campaign machine is in overdrive, working 24/7. They're playing numbers games to assure her nomination. God help us all if she gets in.

"It seems like all she done in NY is make a lucrative book deal. I don't hear nothing else from her."
--And yet, oddly, she has been repeatedly elected by New Yorkers by wide margins. I guess you're just among the tiny minority of New Yorkers with unique and special powers to discern the failure and incompetence others can't see. Lucky you...

My prediction of the day:
The first headlines with messages like "Hillarys Campaign in Meltdown" are not far distant.
The disaffected Reps who are not happy with McCain would also NEVER vote for Hillary. So they either abstain or..

Abstention here. Can't cast a vote for someone who wants to lead a country whose borders he/she refuses to defend.
Should my friends prevail in insisting I vote (and they have compelling arguments), it's going to be a Democratic vote. At least with Hillary or Obama they are loyal to their party and idiot-ology. Maybe the Dem nominee should really freak us all out and name McCain as their VP nominee.

If worse comes to worse, all she'll have to do is cry on CNN. The support will come pouring in.
I just read somewhere that, if a Dem takes office, we'll be seeing the end of conservative controversial radio talk shows.

Some of the concern now, is that now that she is dipping into her personal funds (actually hers and Bills), where are those funds coming from.

I would have to disagree MidnightPrism. Full disclosure is never a bad thing, especially when a person is running for president. It is in everyones best interest to know where every candidate running made their fortunes, or who is giving them money. Gives us the voter, a better idea of what to expect of the candidate if they do become president.
What if a candidate made millions off forclosing low income families homes? Or what if they have been profiting off the Iraq war by investing in say Halliburton? Or profited by damaging the environment? wouldnt you want to know about that? It's the type of thing that would most definitely affect how i voted. and i would be very unhappy to find out only after my vote was cast, if i was supporting someone who made money via means i do not support.

How does a tax return disclose that information? The income tax is imposed on "all income from whatever source derived." In some cases, income she foregoes or assets that produce no income need not be disclosed on a tax return. And by the way, any two-bit hourly wage clerk in the NYDT&F (or any state revenue dept. she files with) or IRS can look up her return.
I could ask how libs would respond to a conservative GOP candidate who made a similar refusal, but I think we all know how libs would react in that scenario.

perhaps she should say that, not tell people she'll release them only if they vote for her first!

How ironic...the Clintons had no qualms whatsoever perusing the tax returns of their perceived political foes.
Still, where's the justice in all this? Bill Clinton lies through his teeth about the burning of black churches in his Arkansas youth...seems that **should** count for something in the black community.
Hillary meltdown: "We LIED for you dammit! You owe us!!"
Simply priceless.

IF ONLY I WERE ALLOWED to vote, alas,I am not a Canadian Native, just a normal Canuck;but something visceral twisted in me last night watching Michele Obama on Larry King. And had I the chance,my hopes would now be for Obama instead of Hillary.I was romanced by the idea of a first woman leader, - [a concept which might paralyze parties to a faith that condones subjugation of women] - a thing long awaiting as America slowly grows up, but most of the better generals are Mustangs,And Barak fits that to a "T".Look at his ability to unite, his unwavering conviction.Born to lead, and I fear for his life. He's in for the count, will make mistakes,(if not the requisite ones),get back up, and sally forth...Or fifth,if that makes any difference...
AND OBAMA WILL HIE US away from this wretched 'dynasty' syndrome that has been enhancing things a bit much...

You gotta look at what you're slated to lose in this election. Could you stand watching your spending spiral further out of control, or would you prefer to watch that and get your taxes hiked along with it (it's all for the children, you know)?
What kind of SC judges would you rather have appointed real soon?
Too much here for me to list. I'm too tired right now.

She already disclosed the information in her Senate ethics filing. So Obama is going into the gutter with a strawman issue. I thought he wasn't going to run that type of campaign. So much for integrity. He is as bad as the Republicans. I have always been kind of split between the two leaning towards Hillary but the more I see of him the less his talk matches his actions. He is politics as usual.

On one hand, there's the attitude "If she hasn't done anything wrong, what's the problem with releasing them?"
IMHO, this wrecks havoc with innocent until proven guilty.
On the other hand, the tax code is so convoluted that it's silly. Almost anyone with multiple sources of income who has a home office and may itemize can be found by someone, somewhere to have done something "questionable". To me, it's all a red herring; and a major reason why many able people don't even want to deal with political office.

"Sometimes Obama has come late to the game. He did not stop taking rides on subsidized corporate jets until the week he was tapped to be the Democrats' chief spokesman on ethics in January 2006. In 2005, Obama took 23 such private aircraft flights, some to attend fund-raisers he headlined. In 2006, Obama led the fight to ban lawmakers from taking cut-rate private air travel.
On other fronts, the Obama transparency record is lacking.
* * An Obama spokesman, Ben Labolt, last week declined to say where Obama's records from his years in the Illinois State Senate are located. There is no law mandating the state to archive the records. The records from Obama's office -- if he kept them -- would potentially show appointments with lobbyists, policy memos, meetings, etc."

"* * Obama has supported more earmark disclosure to bolster government transparency. Last June, Obama disclosed the earmarks he requested for Illinois and national interests. However, his office, after repeated requests since June, has yet to disclose earmarks Obama sought in 2006, before he was running for president.
* * Obama does list the names of hundreds of bundlers -- people committed to raising at least $50,000 for the campaign -- on his Web site. He brags about the disclosure on the stump.
But that's literally all Obama does, list a name. No cities or states, information that is available to his campaign. Some names are well known because the bundlers are celebrities or longtime activists. But it's a big country, and there are more than one Bob Clark and Lou Cohen. Just listing a name does lip service to meaningful disclosure."

I would have no problem with him calling her out on this if it were accurate or if he was really laying everything out there the way he claims, but this double standard is crazy. He is becoming the "do as I say not as I do candidate". This is very familiar because this is the way the Bush machine has run things since 2000. I am beginning fear the only change we will see is the face and it will be the same old same old as the last seven years. Can anyone point to one thing he has actually "done" that proves this wrong. Don't tell me what he said tell me what he did.

You are right on, Red.
Keep on talking because more people need to hear/read about what Obama is really about...not just what he SAYS what he is about. Big difference. I hope people wake up and really examine him AND Hill because this is our best opportunity for CHANGE...AHhhhh, that magic word everyone is throwing around, but few are actually saying what KIND of change. Let's not blow this now.

I'm not sure that any person's tax return or income is any of our freaking business. Wait. Yes I am... IT IS NOT! Except for the part where they are on OUR payroll, that is.

I'd like to add that Cheney divested himself of all his holdings in Haliburton, but that doesn't stop people from complaining, perhaps rightly so, that his policies and practices help Haliburton. So, where the money comes from or has come from in the past does indeed make a difference in who I should vote for.

It doesn't stop him from returning to Haliburton at a later point based on promises from Haliburton that once he's out of office he's guaranteed a job paid for by the money he gave them through no-bid contracts.

His financial disclosure... he is going to donate any profit to charity.. but was not going to until he was called out on it by Frank Lautenburg... he also owns the Vanguard Group Mutual Fund.. one of their largest holdings... HALIBURTON...

If anybody thinks I am picking on him I am not. I have defended him many times when people have tried to spread lies about him. I am merely doing what he has asked all of us to do "hold him accountable". Seems many on here claim they want our elected officials to be held accountable but really only want to hold accountable those that they oppose. Got a news flash for you that's not change. That is exactly the way things have been for the last seven years.

After the former first lady acknowledged she had lent her campaign $5 million in personal funds, Sen. Obama suggested she release her tax records as he has done to give voters a better accounting of where her money comes from.
he has released his returns...how is that not open and honest?

It is no wonder we can't get anyone worthwhile to run for anything in this country.
First, the campaign is soooo long you have to put your life on hold for over two years and it's going to cost you about a bazillion dollars to get a job that supposedly pays, what>? $250K. Seriously, Mitt spent $40m of his own money for a $250K job. Nope, no one who runs could POSSIBLY be thinking about enhancing their own fortunes from the position. Look at the Clintons, they didn't even own a HOUSE when they came into the Presidency the first time and HOW many millions did they have to find a home for when they liquidated? (Okay, maybe that one's not REALLY a drawback)
You have to disclose your medical records.
You have to disclose all your financial records AND tax returns.
Every stupid, not perfect thing you have ever done in your life is going to dragged out of your closet and bandied about-- and who has nothing in their life they would like to keep secret?
