Hillary Clinton refuses to release tax returns »

Posted by: Aidenag 1 year, 10 months ago

Resisting calls from Barack Obama to release her income tax returns, Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday she would only do so if she secures the Democratic presidential nomination and contended her rival had been less than candid about his relationship with major campaign contributors.

Seems Hillary isnt willing to give the same level of disclosure to the voters that Barack is... Should have expected this. Especially with her new strategy of trying to paint Obama as the "Establishment" candidate. If she disclosed her tax returns that entire strategy would belly flop instantly.

Why is she putting up certain conditions on this inquiry? What doe she got to hide? It seems like all she done in NY is make a lucrative book deal. I don't hear nothing else from her.

        My prediction of the day:

The first headlines with messages like "Hillarys Campaign in Meltdown" are not far distant.

The disaffected Reps who are not happy with McCain would also NEVER vote for Hillary. So they either abstain or..

Refusing to disclose? This will be another nail in her coffin.

How ironic...the Clintons had no qualms whatsoever perusing the tax returns of their perceived political foes.

Still, where's the justice in all this? Bill Clinton lies through his teeth about the burning of black churches in his Arkansas youth...seems that **should** count for something in the black community.

Hillary meltdown: "We LIED for you dammit! You owe us!!"

                Simply priceless.

IF ONLY I WERE ALLOWED to vote, alas,I am not a Canadian Native, just a normal Canuck;but something visceral twisted in me last night watching Michele Obama on Larry King. And had I the chance,my hopes would now be for Obama instead of Hillary.I was romanced by the idea of a first woman leader, - [a concept which might paralyze parties to a faith that condones subjugation of women] - a thing long awaiting as America slowly grows up, but most of the better generals are Mustangs,And Barak fits that to a "T".Look at his ability to unite, his unwavering conviction.Born to lead, and I fear for his life. He's in for the count, will make mistakes,(if not the requisite ones),get back up, and sally forth...Or fifth,if that makes any difference...

AND OBAMA WILL HIE US away from this wretched 'dynasty' syndrome that has been enhancing things a bit much...

She already disclosed the information in her Senate ethics filing. So Obama is going into the gutter with a strawman issue. I thought he wasn't going to run that type of campaign. So much for integrity. He is as bad as the Republicans. I have always been kind of split between the two leaning towards Hillary but the more I see of him the less his talk matches his actions. He is politics as usual.

On one hand, there's the attitude "If she hasn't done anything wrong, what's the problem with releasing them?"

IMHO, this wrecks havoc with innocent until proven guilty.

On the other hand, the tax code is so convoluted that it's silly. Almost anyone with multiple sources of income who has a home office and may itemize can be found by someone, somewhere to have done something "questionable". To me, it's all a red herring; and a major reason why many able people don't even want to deal with political office.

"Sometimes Obama has come late to the game. He did not stop taking rides on subsidized corporate jets until the week he was tapped to be the Democrats' chief spokesman on ethics in January 2006. In 2005, Obama took 23 such private aircraft flights, some to attend fund-raisers he headlined. In 2006, Obama led the fight to ban lawmakers from taking cut-rate private air travel.

On other fronts, the Obama transparency record is lacking.

                              * * An Obama spokesman, Ben Labolt, last week declined to say where Obama's records from his years in the Illinois State Senate are located. There is no law mandating the state to archive the records. The records from Obama's office -- if he kept them -- would potentially show appointments with lobbyists, policy memos, meetings, etc."

"* * Obama has supported more earmark disclosure to bolster government transparency. Last June, Obama disclosed the earmarks he requested for Illinois and national interests. However, his office, after repeated requests since June, has yet to disclose earmarks Obama sought in 2006, before he was running for president.

                                * * Obama does list the names of hundreds of bundlers -- people committed to raising at least $50,000 for the campaign -- on his Web site. He brags about the disclosure on the stump.

But that's literally all Obama does, list a name. No cities or states, information that is available to his campaign. Some names are well known because the bundlers are celebrities or longtime activists. But it's a big country, and there are more than one Bob Clark and Lou Cohen. Just listing a name does lip service to meaningful disclosure."

I would have no problem with him calling her out on this if it were accurate or if he was really laying everything out there the way he claims, but this double standard is crazy. He is becoming the "do as I say not as I do candidate". This is very familiar because this is the way the Bush machine has run things since 2000. I am beginning fear the only change we will see is the face and it will be the same old same old as the last seven years. Can anyone point to one thing he has actually "done" that proves this wrong. Don't tell me what he said tell me what he did.

I'd like to add that Cheney divested himself of all his holdings in Haliburton, but that doesn't stop people from complaining, perhaps rightly so, that his policies and practices help Haliburton. So, where the money comes from or has come from in the past does indeed make a difference in who I should vote for.

If anybody thinks I am picking on him I am not. I have defended him many times when people have tried to spread lies about him. I am merely doing what he has asked all of us to do "hold him accountable". Seems many on here claim they want our elected officials to be held accountable but really only want to hold accountable those that they oppose. Got a news flash for you that's not change. That is exactly the way things have been for the last seven years.

It is no wonder we can't get anyone worthwhile to run for anything in this country.

First, the campaign is soooo long you have to put your life on hold for over two years and it's going to cost you about a bazillion dollars to get a job that supposedly pays, what>? $250K. Seriously, Mitt spent $40m of his own money for a $250K job. Nope, no one who runs could POSSIBLY be thinking about enhancing their own fortunes from the position. Look at the Clintons, they didn't even own a HOUSE when they came into the Presidency the first time and HOW many millions did they have to find a home for when they liquidated? (Okay, maybe that one's not REALLY a drawback)

You have to disclose your medical records.

You have to disclose all your financial records AND tax returns.

Every stupid, not perfect thing you have ever done in your life is going to dragged out of your closet and bandied about-- and who has nothing in their life they would like to keep secret?
