I'm afraid if you read between the lines McCain may be planning an old-style attack campaign, better to stay out of it. It's about being on the wrong side of history.

I hope not, But McCain just hasn't been right since the Bush camp sabotaged his 2000 run for the presidency. It was quite successful but highly immoral and a pack o' lies.

Barry Goldwater. I would support BG long before I'd support any one in the Republican party in today's world. At least BG was a man that lived true to the Republican ideals. The R's today pander to the right wing religious wing nuts.

RFE: Yeah...kinda reminds me of the way the Gore camp attacked Bill Bradley in 2000. In the Democratic Party decency & honor carry a high price.

"decency & honor carry a high price"

They have in all parties for a long time. But I truly sense a sea change in AMerican politics. Look at the Clinton's smear campaign in South Carolina. For the first time in my memory, it totally backfired. Now they are desperate and trying it again. I predict it will blow up in their faces again.

And if McCain tries to win by swift boating, I think he will end up sinking faster than a boat anchor in November.

Radiofreeeurope...I think that once Obama gets the nomination the attack campaign will begin on BOTH sides, and the candidates themselves may not be able to control the mud their respective parties sling. The fact that McKinnon doesn't want to be a part of that speaks volumes for his integrity. It also shows an incredible amount of respect for Obama and HIS integrity. But don't forget that McKinnon says he will continue to support McCain from the sidelines. That says alot about McCain, too.

I agree that is likely. I do tip my hat to Mr. McKinnon for making this known, as he could just step down without saying why and still be true to his conscience. I hope Obama will exert influence to stay above the usual mudfest. McCain was a victim of it in 2000. In case anyone doesn't remember the Bush camp had run a phone campaign pretending to be pollsters, if the recipient indicated they were for McCain they were told McCain's adapted daughter was a black child conceived out of wedlock, and that McCain's wife was insane. That it was big of them to overlook these "facts". Will McCain condone such tactics after being the target of them from his own party? Or will he figure they were effective, and like Rove said... "the ends justify the means"?

McCain signed the anti-US papers under torture. Nobody, holds that against him. Well, except some of his fellow Republicans. Anyway, it was because of that torture that made him sign a statement he never believed in and truly regrets, that he was always against torture. At least until the Bushies needed his help to try to cover their arses on their illegal torture.

He was for campaign finance before he needed to get around it.

I do not trust McCain to make a clean campaign, any more than I trust him to make the right choice on Iraq.
