US: Broken Satellite Will Be Shot Down »

The Pentagon is planning to shoot down a broken spy satellite expected to hit the Earth in early March, The Associated Press has learned.

    You should have to sign up with the UN or something to get a shot.

    The Navy will get three trys to take it down. If they don't get it done and it goes over China they should get a shot or two, maybe Iran would like to do it.

      If they miss, does that mean China uses our own technology better than we do?

      What kind of batteries does the satellite have?

        The artcle notes that the satellite carries 1000 lbs of toxic fuel

        The fuel is hydrazine

        According to the Material Safety Data Sheet on hydrazine:

        Stability

        May be an explosion hazard, particularly if heated. Incompatible with sources of ignition, light, shock, strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, metal oxides, nitrous oxide, hydrogen peroxide, most common metals, organic materials, porous materials such as wood, paper, asbestos, soil or rust.

        Toxicology

        Harmful if inhaled or swallowed. Poison. Probable human carcinogen. Readily absorbed through the skin. May cause severe skin and eye irritation or burns. Long-term exposure may cause CNS, lungs, blood, liver and kidney damage.
