Roughly 3,000 were killed in the WTC attacks.
As of last Monday, 3,960 Americans have been killed in Iraq since the start of the war.

Beau, don't forget the 1,000 American contractors who have lost their lives. The total is over 5,000 now. k-lud is only interested in name-calling rather than any debate. I don't believe he/she has any conception of what is really required to fight terrorism. HINT: 1) Cooperation with the intelligence officials in other countries. 2) Closing the gaps in internal security (e.g. inspecting incoming cargo). 3) Doing our best not to convince the average person in the street in Islamic countries that we are everything the extremists say we are.

I'd say it's got a better chance at protecting us than destroying their (and millions of others') countries' infrastructures, destabilizing the international oil supply and plunging the world into a global depression.
