"The measures are meant to meet or exceed new federal standards expected from Congress in the wake of last year's highly publicized recalls of millions of toys because they contained excessive amounts of lead or other hazards."

"We made a commitment to the world that we would push forward toy safety as a top priority."

Other than economics and cheap labor is there any reason the toys could not be made here with local labor, And lead free paint.

Actually I knew better when I asked.....

The MSM has lost interest in the toy recalls

Rarely a week goes by without recalls - many due to lead content

eBay works closely with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and lists the recalls along with the reason on their General Announcement Board

              http://www2.ebay.com/aw/marketing.shtml

It's an easy way to track the recalls if you have children

The momma cat in this family is sick. Has to be the food, I've isolated her from everything except the kittens. It's in her digestive system and I would just like to find some made in America cat food. Apparently there isn't any. When I make it out of table scraps she improves. Give her cat food and it is right back. One would think that any body who runs a business, would change their mind in doing business with a country that has over and over again put out harmful products. I guess greed means more than the human beings of their own country.

Assuming all the "research" on these materials is valid (sometimes a big if), this sounds reasonable. One wonders why such rules weren't in force already anyway.

It's about time they did this! Cheap labor (and the resulting lower cost of an item) often leads to junk products. In the agricultural business, labor accounts for aprox. 5% of the retail price. I would gladly pay that additional amount knowing that I was spending my money on American made, supporting American business and American Workers!

IF big business saw that we consumers were willing to pay a little additional cost for American made, knowing that they were paying a decent wage, they would move manufacturing back here, providing that Congress would do something about our huge tax burdden.

It is our bought and paid for congress that award companys tax breaks for the outsourcing. Stop reelecting incumbents to congress, get some new people in there who are not already bribed.

If we would not buy anything but American made this situation wouldn't exist. We need to bring all these businesses that outsourced back into the U.S.A. I might cost a little more per toy but will it not be worth it? I think so.
