During the American Civil War there were many other things in play. However, you didn't have the death camps and rape centers the Serbs had. Those are proven facts from the War Crimes trials held in Brussels.
As to separating, I think it would be better if they stayed together, but there's deep hate there. If making two different nations will being some peace then so be it. I'm not a friend of either side but Serbia really needs to answer some serious questions regarding their roles in the deaths of thousands. A few of their leaders went to trial but far more remained.

Just because thousands were not killed or raped in "camps" doesn't mean they were not raped or killed at all. Plus add in how many greedy northerners stole land and businesses from southerners while the government sat by and did nothing. Are you really that far apart?
