If our state department has ANY freaking brains there at all, there is ALREADY someone on Cuba - or on the way - to talk to Raul. MAYBE he isn't quite as dense as Fidel. Anyway, regardless of that it offers an opportunity to normalize relations with one of our closest neighbors. Which I can't help but think would be a GOOD thing.

They have already proven that they don't need US support or approval. Cuba has become a recognized vacation spot and has made vast improvements in their economy. Some will say about the slums and poverty but look around and those can also be found on Jamaica, Dominican Republic or any other Caribbean Island.

Joe, that's not as easy as you would think. That embargo was put into place by JFK. There is a full set of things that need to be done prior to this. Removing Castro and his dictatorship is only a part of it. There were millions stolen by the Cuban government from American business by the seizure of their assets. Along with that, you've got a huge population of Cuban exiles. We will need to make sure they get their property back too. Fidel and Raoul are only a small part of this.

don't admire his policies, but I certainly admire his stamina. CIA attempts on his life, the Bay of Pigs...
Your an idiot, Talk to the starving people there and ask them about how they admire him, his a dictator, a killer, just like Chavez and all the rest. It is exactly we will have with Hillary

How can Castro be different from Bush? If Castro tortured his captives, so did Bush and he still has 10 months left. Actually Bush went a step further. He ordered kidnapping unsuspecting people off the streets in various parts of the world, holed them up in CUBA and tortured them.

You cannot possibly compare any of our presidents to Castro. Per capita, Castro is the biggest mass murder this world has ever known. No one actually knows the real number of people he's responsible for but conservative estimates are over 1 million Cubans have died by his orders.
As to torture, perhaps you should really define what torture is and how that compares to both sides. Castro uses/used everything from the breaking of bones, removal of finger nails to forced rapes and assaults on family in front of the prisoner or the always popular fake executions. Castro was a very bad guy and did it all by claiming it was for the revolution. He made Batista look like a nice guy, which he wasn't.
As to Bush and the CIA, sleep deprivation, too much air conditioning, water boarding or having prisoners run around naked with a woman prison guard doesn't come close to Castro.

Castro has been a bloody dicatator for 50 years. Nothing compares to that. President Bush ordered the arrest of unsuspecting terrorists who never thought they'd have to answer for their crimes.

If bush wants to force democracy down some throats, why doesen't he try China. He's really good at destroying nations that can't possibly stand up to us. Why not lock horns with someone that won't take his sh$t.

Bullies only pick on the weaker kids in the playground. If they were to pick on the strng kids, they would get squashed. Sad that growm men act like grade schoolers and play playground politics.

Guys, while China isn't a great place, it's better than Cuba. As to your comments, I suspect you mean Iraq. Things continue to improve. The main problem for every success story, our media publishes a 100 bad ones.
As to Cuba, they seized companies and assets owned by American businesses. There was a mini market crash caused by this but again our press forgets this. Because of Castro's actions, President Kennedy closed our embassy and have restricted Americans to travel there. Over the last 40 years, Cuba exported terrorism to many South American nations and Africa.
Before you attack Bush, let me ask why not let the people of Cuba conduct a real election? I don't mean one of the Jimmy Carter watched scams, I mean a real election where the people of Cuba select what form of government they want. Then again, being left, you can't permit people to make any choices for themselves.
