  Islam doesn't encourage terrorism nor violence but the fact remain here is that Western Democracies and Secular governments that encourage invasion and occupation with their people's approval, who are Jews, Christians and Atheists.The media keep brainwashing them to support invasions and occupations in the name of Freedom and Democracy, and that makes specially Muslims to indulge in violence in order to take revenge for their countries' destruction or their loved ones being killed in the processes but the media blame Islam, at the same time media never blamed the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan on Christianity or Judaism even though the President of the United States of America openly admitted that he ordered the invasion of Iraq because God told him to do so.   Judging by the number of people murdered in the name of Islam, I wonder if he's really saying, "we get to decide who's innocent and the Koran says we can kill the rest".

  So the real motive behind this statement is to obtain good publicity.

  Another motive for this statement might be to deflect attention.

  I would have preferred specifics. For example, let them come out and say that any all violent actions against American and Jewish targets is wrong and against the Koran. That's worth paying attention to.

  I think the mistake we make is when someone of a particular faith kills we attribute the act to the faith when actually the act may have been motivated politically or through nationalism.

  Hell must be freezing over! Muslim scholars are denouncing terrorism and saying it's against Islam? Woah! The lives of these scholars are in danger now. I never thought I'd hear this. But they are the minority out of thousands of psycho Muslims willing to blow themselves up.

  you both have made some interesting points.

  as a muslim, i can say i thoroughly agree w walden that hyper: your gratuitous digression takes away from what are otherwise sound comments on you commendable position against violence.

  commodore, you are mistaken. the majority of us are driving in car pools, doing laundry, attending meetings and volunteering in our communities. you do not read about us in the media because we are just living our lives as productive citizens.

  we are doctors, professors, architects and we are humans too. we do not want to kill, nor to be killed. we raise our kids and teach them respect for all religions. my kids love their methodist dad and grandparents, their jewish and lesbian teachers and their catholic neighbors and schoolmates. and this love and respect is returned.

  too much hate and blood has already been spilled.

  let us rejoice together in this news of the voices of islamic moderation: six thousand scholars!

  I applaud their courage. Wish more influential muslim clerics would join their condemnation of terrorist acts in the name of religion.

  The irony, and the disappointment, and the reality, is that situations like this are then used by the likes of daylight and hyperbola to go off on some tangent which has nothing to do with the discussion and once again prove that some Muslims, etc. will take a story for peace and turn it in to a conflict. That is exactly what many people have a problem with concerning Muslims. Are you for peace or not. Yes---or----No?
