Feb. 28, 2008, 5:14 p.m.FTA:
The Democratic-controlled House voted two weeks ago to hold Bolten and Miers in contempt for failing to cooperate with committee investigations.
"There is no authority by which persons may wholly ignore a subpoena and fail to appear as directed because a president unilaterally instructs them to do so," Pelosi wrote Attorney General Michael Mukasey. She noted that Congress subpoenaed Miers to appear before the House Judiciary Committee, which is investigating the firings.
Maybe someone should have told Bush this when he instructed them not to appear for questioning!
I wonder if exec priv is going to get them out of it again!
Probably.

Feb. 28, 2008, 5:16 p.m.Also FTA:
At the time, the Bush administration was no less harsh, saying the information sought by the House was off-limits under executive privilege and that Bolten and Miers were immune from prosecution. The White House said the department would not ask the U.S. attorney to pursue the House contempt charges.
How can the information be "off limits"? Bush is amazing, he never stops.
Is that how the emails got erased? Off limits, due to exec priv! EGAD!

Feb. 28, 2008, 9:16 p.m."The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. John Conyers, said he hoped Pelosi's demand would spur the department to "put the partisan manipulation of our system of justice behind it" and take the issue to a grand jury."
Oh YES please do that!
Convene a grand jury to determine if jobs that are political appointments based politics are somehow influenced by politics.
Ya that will be a hoot!
Go for it Nancy you can only lose 11% approval rating for congress!
And that's the 11% who still believe something wrong was done.

Feb. 28, 2008, 9:23 p.m.Pelosi, D-Calif., demanded that the department pursue misdemeanor charges
Misdemeanor charges? That incredibly weak, like a parking ticket. And she will have to get a "Grand Jury" for that?
Blahhhhhhhhhh Hoooaaa ROFLMAO

Feb. 28, 2008, 9:37 p.m.Whoa, hold up here before we get too excited about this "great" Polosi move. Let us consider the facts:
1) "She gave Attorney General Michael Mukasey one week to respond and said refusal to take the matter to a grand jury will result in the House's filing a civil lawsuit against the Bush administration."- Wow, a civil law suit, and Bush is shaking in his boots. LOL Do you think they will take all Bush's money or just tie up the AG's time defending the man?
2) "Surely, your department would not tolerate that type of action if the witness were subpoenaed to a federal grand jury," Pelosi wrote. - She wrote! Powerful stuff. Surely Mr. Fox, I appeal to your better side that it is just darn right unfair that the hens your group is seeking can't defend themselves, so as leader of the group, would you not tolerate that action?
WEAK, WEAK, WEAK! Do you think, after taking impeachment off the table, the Bush Administration has any respect for this lady?

March 1, 2008, 4:30 p.m.Only a Repug led Congress has tried to impeach in the past with Johnson and Clinton. Maybe she doesn't want to stoop as low as Repugs have in the past!

Feb. 29, 2008, 12:15 a.m.This was such a glaring case of contempt of Congress that it absolutely HAD to be pursued. To let this slide would be to openly declare that law only applies to little people.

Feb. 29, 2008, 3:29 p.m.Here's a list of folks who should be investigated for contempt, crimes against Americans, and treason:
David Addington - the illegal "signing statements" that Bush signed.
John Yoo - failure to protect the rights of Americans under the 4th Amendment.
Alberto Gonzalez - illegal domestic spying, authorizing illegal torture, covering up for the Bush administration.

Uh, ET, Fact check, with an 11% approval rating there's a whole lot of "contempt" for congress out there.
11% is only half of the loony left and the loony right. However they are eligible for a life time achievement award.
This Congress has attained what seemed un-attainable, truly historic.

March 1, 2008, 7:37 p.m....at least all those obstructionist repugs in the Senate... the ones still backing Dumya's vetos! The same ones that would have blocked a conviction of Dumya's impeachment!
The Repugs don't vote the rule of law or their conscience, they vote party line and as such have been un-american!

March 1, 2008, 5:14 p.m....you forget the real "Do Nothing" Congress was the Repug led one... that had Hastert go to a 3 day work week and he accepted no Dem amendments as big busineess lobbyists wrote all his laws. Then you have Sensenbrenner (R-Wi) shutting off the mikes and just walking out on the last day of Patriot Act Renewal. Then there was Ted Stevens telling big oil they didn't even have to tell Congress the truth - no oaths! Then in the Senate Judiciary we had Orin Hatch threatening jail time to anyone who dared to give the senate unasked for info on a Bush judge nominee (Pryor out of Alabama). It was all documented on CSPAN
6 years of Repug led Congress in complete lock step with Dumya's continued failures! Even the Medicare Prescription Bill was un-american to oversubsidize big HMOs and say its against the law to negotiate lower drug prices!
Waste of dollars? Ted stevens' bridges to nowhere and all those Bush sole source, unaudited contracts! Debt raised to 11 trillion!

Feb. 29, 2008, 3:24 p.m.I applaud Speaker Pelosi and the Congress for standing up to the the fear tactics of this corrupt administration.
The Bush administration is worse than Nixon; Bush's crimes are against the American people.
Congress should continue to keep pressure on Bush and demand unpartial investigation into the crimes and complicity with the judicial branch.
