Texas: Worst CO2 Emitter »

Posted by: TimALoftis 1 year, 9 months ago

If the state were a nation, it would be the world's eighth-largest emitter of CO2, just behind Canada. Part of the problem? The state's governor still doubts that global warming is man made.

NOTE TO READERS: This is a minor point, but if the article in general is as "fact-challenged" as the statement quoted from Jim Marston, the regional director of the Texas office of the Environmental Defense Fund ("We have the longest coastline....), then we all need to be suspicious of it "en toto."

Among all 50 states, Texas DOES NOT have the longest coastline. And if you include both saltwater and freshwater coastlines, it does not even appear in the top 5--Alaska, Michigan, Florida, Hawaii and Louisiana all have longer coastlines.......

Perhaps the writer of this article needs to re-review ALL the "facts" cited in the article......

Interesting article, if you believe in the CO2 myth. By the way my great state of TEXAS also leads the nation in wind power with the most MW of electricity produced by wind generation, and we're not done yet. As far as the coastline goes, I don't know and don't care - it's enough for me.

Say what you will about the facts...according to the posts on here the author is 100% correct on at least one point:

"Texas produces more carbon emissions than most countries, but the state government and business community don't seem too concerned."

          * by some estimates more than half of all Texans live in areas where the air is unsafe to breathe, as defined by the EPA's Clean Air Act

          * it is one of only 15 states without a climate action plan in place or even under consideration

          * The state's 23.5 million residents use nearly 3,000 more kilowatt-hours of electricity every year than the average American and a higher percentage of them drive large, gas-guzzling vehicles

          * Perry publicly doubts that global warming is a manmade problemâ;;something his predecessor George W. Bush has acknowledgedâ;;and pokes fun at those who do

Texas is America`s Quebec - they don`t speak our language and are a parasite on our nation. Why don`t they just secede and save us the $?
