I have about 250 NEW people every single day coming to one of my web sites looking for info about painful withdrawal from antidepressants.

It's unbelievable how painful it can be for *some* people.

It doesn't take much research to discover that heroin and cocaine were once used as antidepressants, with the same degree of effectiveness as the modern meds. (about 2/3rds of patients find some relief.)

From what I understand, when people go nuts and kill - it's within the first few days after starting the drug, or else the first few days after a dosage change.

        My theory on depression:

It takes a combination of factors; genetic, pre-verbal conditioning, a shutting down of one's feelings, and a certain perspective on life.

The factors work together to create a synergy that leads to a resonance of depression.

The brain chemicals get progressively more out of balance over time.

That's when you fall down the hole; and into depression.

I believe we can heal ourselves. I did.

I hear what you all are saying. I am on cymbalta but also have added Omega 3, and Vitamin B complex. And am happy to say have not been depressed in about 1 1/2 months. I two have had this going on for 22 years now. It all started when my Dad passed away. And then all the verbal, physical and mental abuse we had as kids, and verbal and mental as adults. I had no idea I was depressed for 21 years, I would just have bouts, and when it really got bad in 2006, I started writing things down, and linked it to my Dad's passing, and basically our family fell apart after that. But, I have taken it in my own hands, and hopefully will be off cymbalta soon. And yes, anyone reading this do not just stop taking your meds. I did years ago after asking my doctor if I could stop. He said yes, so I just stopped, needless to say 2 weeks later,

I had a severe panic/anxiety attack. I went back on the anti- depressants, and later went off them slowly. To all of you that have beat depression or have a grip on it. Congrats.

With my Mom having Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, My sister passing from Cancer in 2006, financial difficulties, health issues, depression just took over in the fall of 2006. But, I am beating it. Thankfully. Hugs to all of you. Mary

I find pot works much better for me than the anti-depressant cocktail my psychiatrist prescribes for me. Too bad that I can be jailed and shamed for using what makes me a nice, calm and productive member of society.

I understand rdy2rck, I also have other health issues along with the depression. If you ever need someone to chat with, I am a good listener. Take care and God Bless to All of you. And good luck to everyone as well. Hugs Mary

PS. I also figure if we talk about our health issues, others can learn from what we have gone through. And maybe be spared having to wait so long for a diagnosis. If my writing my articles or commenting can help just one person, then it has been well worth having to go through all the health issues.
