It funds itself largely through the cocaine trade and kidnaps for ransom and political ends." Other than this I'm sure they are really nice folks. I can see why Chavez loves them so much.
All kidding aside, he needs to tread lightly. The Western Hemisphere is getting pretty damn tired of his nonsense. Many Venezuelans I'm sure are embarrassed by him too.

What Colombia did was deploy its own military forces on foreign soil (Ecuador) which is not allowed
And Chavez has said that he will not allow foreign troops on his soil and has deployed some elements of his army close to the border to prevent that from happening which is the legal right of any country

Gotta love seeing you say that. You know, if we were trying to expand our empire, we would have just taken over Venezuala or Canada instead of Iraq. We get far more oil from them, and they would have put up much less of a fight. Not to mention the gas we would save because they are much closer.

FARC operates from Venezuala also. FARC are not just drug smugglers but engage in kidnapping. They are receiving the active support of Ecuador and Venezuala, which adds another dimension to this situation. So Columbia should never hold either of those countries responsible for arming and supporting an insurrection that has lingered on for many years? At one point, a large area commonly referred to as "FARCland" was under the control of this group. I think that Columbia has every right to finally deal with this situation effectively.

Sounds like a Columbian version of the 9/11 Truther argument. There is a connection and Chavez basically admits it. HELLO! FARC is operating from Ecuador and Venezula? You have to have logistical support for a rebellion to continue for decades. Ecuador and Venezuala both provide bases of operation for FARC, while Chavez arms them. Without safe havens, FARC couldn't continue to operate. I think that a one mile border incursion aimed at hitting a known rebel basecamp was a measured response on the part of Columbia. FARC has threatened the continued existence of a democratic Columbian state, which is exactly why Chavez loves them. Should Venezuala and Ecuador be able to create rebellion in a neighboring state and never be held responsible? FARC has done incalculable damage to the Columbian economy and society.
