  Third principal of Scientant life- is the capacity for self sacerfice. The unwavering ability to give ones life; for a cause; for a belief; for another. In other words a hero.

  A hero is not a sports or movie star. A hero is not a celebrity or rich and powerful. A hero is someone who unselfishly thinks about the welfare of others and acts upon that desire to help. Or what JohnQPublic said above.

  I think there are degrees of being a hero, from the lowly school teacher who spends a few minutes of unpaid time after school trying to help a dolt with his/her math (which will probably soon be forgotten), to the one who donates bone marrow for someone he/she probably will never see. The ultimate hero seems to be the martyr. But, since so many martyrs died in vain (sacrifice for Aztec "gods", "Heroes in Zeroes" (ie. kamakazi pilots), and those in Iraq and 911 (if Islam is a lie)), that I think martyrdom should be a last resort after much contemplation on what you claim you REALLY believe in. I wonder how many Atheists have gone the martyr route? There WAS the situation with the Soviet sub. Those guys were heroes in my book even though they were on the otherside of the Cold War. Killing themselves to prevent an atomic melt-down.
