Posted By populist 1 year, 8 months ago in NewsInteresting how the only two presidential candidates who showed any vision on US foreign policy were from opposite ends of the political spectrum...and, both were censored from earlier debates. Ron Paul, a libertarian, and Dennis Kucinich, a progressive, both want the US to close most of the 700 plus military bases we have in hundreds of countries

That was well written, with so many good points! We must take our America back!
The silencing of the voices of freedom and truth, is not the Democracy I have known. Ron Paul speaks the truth! It is the truth that scares the powers that be!
Would Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich run on an independent ticket?
Thanks Pop!

The loudest silence I hear are the people who continue to vote for empty rhetoric.
They silenty reward the do nothing policies the wealthy enforce for their benefits.
Obama is for change. Change what? The color of the skin of the person in the Whitehouse? What kind of change is that?
Hilary would change what the sexual gender of the person in the Whitehouse?
Well yeah both cases would be change so neither contender is lying. But neither is promising the change we need either.
I mean I don't care if you're all for change if all it is, is changing the person in charge.
That is technically a change.
So make them be specific about the change they are working for.

well said.
its been said before, and it'll be said again.
it seem like more are saying it than ever before.. but still no real change has happened.
Obama has become the symbol of change. another party hack, who says what people want to hear without offering any substantive difference.
opportunity for real change had better come soon, or it will be brought in a way none of us who think things through want.
It is time for a peaceful, legal revolution.
It is time for a Constitutional Convention.

These men were defined as extremists and "outside of mainstream politics" by the media. The fact is both are men of great integrity. America needs a free press badly. Corporate ownership of media should be outlawed. Until the Reagan de-regulations, owners were allowed to only own 1 media in any given market. This deregulation allowed mega corporate views to have a monopoly pure and simple, the candidates General Electric, Westinghouse, Rupert Murdoch, etc. want are the candidates you will have!

HOWARD BEALE: "We are no longer an industrialized society; we aren't even a post-industrial or technological society. We are now a corporate society, a corporate world, a corporate universe. This world is a vast cosmology of small corporations orbiting around larger corporations who, in turn, revolve around giant corporations, and this whole endless, eternal, ultimate cosmology is expressly designed for the production and consumption of useless things . . . "
NARRATOR: "By the end of June,The Howard Beale Show was down eleven points, a catastrophic condition."

Honestly we can't close any bases as long as we are the "world police" we have to have cops on ever corner. Once we get into a country they are stuck with us indefinitely. Of course if we did try to close some of our bases the neocons would be up in arms complaining that we are unamerican.

Might be nice to have a few more police departments here -
and fire departments here and hospitals here - and schools
here - receiving enough of our tax dollars to improve our
quality of life.
I am not in ANY way an the equivalent of a 21st Century
"America Firster" - when the world is in trouble, I think we
have a duty to help, but these military operations are about
EMPIRE - and carried out with a big stick. I'm old enough to
remember the slogans "Yankee Go Home!" and the USA being
thought of as the Ugly American in foreign affairs.
First and foremost - we need more unbiased INTERNATIONAL
news so we will understand what's going on, and then we
need to raise a RUKUS!!

I remember Ari Fleischer's early news conferences where he talked about the "humble" foreign policy Bush was going to pursue. These two, though, do have a legislative history that suggests their spoken words are also their beliefs.

No wonder they don't want to rock the boat with oversight:
From "The Israel Lobby" by Mearsheimer & Walt
pg 25-26:
"In terms of the absolute amount of U.S. aid, however, the real sea change took place following the Six-Day War in June 1967. After averaging roughly $63 million annually from 1949 to 1965 (more than 95% of which was economic assistance and food aid), average aid increased to $102 million per year from 1966 to 1970. Support soared to $634.5 million in 1971 (roughly 85% was military assistance) and more than quintupled after the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Israel became the largest annual recipient of U.S. foreign assistance in 1976, a position it has retained ever since.

It is late in the game, but we could start to reclaim the country by refusing to reelect incumbents to the bought and paid for congress.
Support whoever will run on a third party ticket, quit letting the MSM pick our elected officials!!!!

Any of the current clowns will continue frivolous and fruitless wars at the behest of another county. The bottom line is more money for the bankers and the contractors in this war based economy. Just where do you think the money for repayment is going to come from ? Right now this country is ripe for economic takeover by another country without firing a shot. Rome (Amerika) will burn again.

I can advise all where the problem is. It is NOT with those of us here keeping track of various positions and arguments on the internet who, (even the ones who are WRONG - like O'Bama supporters {;>D)=) at the very least have a CLUE what's going on. Many more who read the various posts that mention "The United States Constitution" and get curious enough to actually go and READ it, and gain an understanding of the various arguments, get sufficient information to become totally angry at how badly our country has strayed from our Constitutional Origins. Where the problem actually IS, is the much larger number of people who get their information from the MSM, listen ONLY to political sound bytes, haven't looked at a copy of the Constitution for YEARS, and don't EVER think about the future of this country in long range, overall terms.

(cont.) They sit around telling themselves (and each other) how WONDERFUL it would be if EVERYONE could have health insurance. How IMPORTANT it is to fight the terrorists "over there" so they don't come over here. Or some combination of those things. BUT! They seldom - if every - consider what it will cost, or WHO WILL PAY. And very, very rarely think about whether or not the government - OUR government - has a legitimate, legal RIGHT to do many of the things that are done or proposed. And, they are apathetic - so long as they are not PERSONALLY inconvenienced. THAT is where the problem really is.

The intelligent, well studied and pragmatic candidates are not entertaining. In other words; they are boring.
With out an 'individual entertainment quote' that our so called top candidates exhibit the 'Corporate News Outlets' would loose market share, then advertising dollars would go down, down, down, which would mean the News industry would no longer make a vialable profit for their owners.
However IMHO, The US Constitution is a fascinating document, which is at best a difficult read. It forces one to 'think about what is written' and how the phraseology and definitions written 'then' can, if at all, apply today.
One consequence that 'studying and explaining the Constitution' to the avg US Voter can mean; is that in this world of instant catchy phrases and jingles for politicians, is that the US Constitution is something everyone that wants to be entertaining and therefore electable, strives to stay away from at all costs.
