FTA:
It showed two women pulling into one of the bays in a Hyundai Elantra and then using the high pressure washer to spray the child with cold water all over her body.
I wonder why some people are blessed with children, this is a shame.

This mother has come forward and is at the Doctors with the child and police. They have stated So far there is no evidence of child abuse.
The mother says the kid was throwing a temper tantrum in the car and that is how she was disciplining her to stop. There could be worse things like getting beat with a belt like my mother use to do in rages.

That may be EE, but at the carwashes here, they advise people not to let the water hit them because it comes out with such force it can knock the skin off. This was on CNN this evening.
At any rate, that wasn't discipline, time out is discipline, taking away priviledges is discipline, spraying a child with high force water is abuse, IMHO.

EE:
My dad used to put he boxing gloves on and say come on kid.
I had no choice. Being that he was a professional fighter I bet you can tell who came out on the losing end of those matches. LOL
That was from the time I was six years old. I got pretty good at fighting along the way. As I got older the beatings in back yard got harder. To this day I can take a pretty solid punch without getting knocked down or out.
When my daughters did something wrong they were spanked if it was something that caused harm to someone else, or sent to their room until I calmed down if was something that angered me.
The thing about discipline is it is supposed to teach not injure.

I know what you mean, EE, my mom had a terrible temper and when she became angry you had better watch out, she would pick up anything to hit you with. Once she hit me over and over with a 30 gallon metal garbage can, of course, it was empty. It really didn't hurt much but it's illustrative of what could happen. I didn't spank both of my children more than a half dozen times in their lives. Just didn't have the heart and they were really extra good kids. lol

Wrong is wrong. Why are we even discussing this? I guess I was a bit frustrated because one lady on here hasnt worked thru her own childhood abuse and has decided this was NOT AS BAD as hers. Children are to be loved. Work through yours so you can give a DIFFERENT RESPONSE than - " it could be worse". What ever that child felt- wont go away. The parent needs disciplined. and they need to press charges and she is already punished a bit because all of her friends, co-workers, boyfriends, etc have seen her nationally. The rest will be taken care of hopefully. Yeah..they did that during the civil rights times too..huh, and she wasnt even black. The world is sick. It needs a SAVIOR. NO joke. Families need to stop having so many babie showers and celebrating christianings with cake and punch and start praying for each generation of new families. Each individual child and their parents to be blessed and live a good life and be prosperous in love & spirit.

As part of Law Enforcement, these women eventually will be caught and dealt with. My personal opinion, the child should be placed in protective custody, the women jailed and face the courts and have to deal in anger management classes as well as any time for abuse.

Protective custody according to most people who are placed is worse than a quick spray down, in many cases cops take a bad situation and make it worse. How many murder cases don't get solved every year, but what will happen is because of media hype a huge amount of police resources will be spent on this case pulling from real crimes around the city. And people wonder why cops don't protect them. Have you not read what many people here have said they went through as kids but how few would say they were abused? You would advocate removing the child and jailing the mother when if you really were a police officer and had any knowledge of what children really face in abusive homes makes me question your claim.

Jordan and swasdiva, what world do you two live in? Here in the real world children will always be abused and that's that. You can't wish it away or simply pass laws and make it disappear. Hosing down a child is not a crime, There was hardly any more pressure there than from you garden hose, (yes I watched the video and I know real pressure washers) so where is all this hostility coming from? Now I understand how you are protective of children, thats good, but channel it to where it is honestly needed and can do the most good. If authorities find these people they will investigate and if they find more signs then they will proceed but put things in perspective, please.

Reading most of the comments, where is the info that the mother actually brought the child to a doctor? After some time, of course there will be no marks on this child, however, its on video, its abuse, regardless. Lock them up. Period. I have looked and searched for any info regarding any officer stating they found no abuse, didnt find it, so why bash the police, the bottom line here is, find the mothers, and make them accountable for their actions and check the child at a doctor appointed by the courts who specialize in this, and check for past marks, bruises and injuries.

I was like you and saw someone post a comment and thought they had caught them but as time goes on I dough they will. While I don't call it abuse I do think they would be right to investigate and examine the little girl for past injuries but if none are found then it need not involve the police any more. I do think they need to make it clear how dangerous an act it was and how she was lucky that the particular car wash uses low pressure wands, had she tried the same thing at another car wash the results could have been very different.

My lord, what is she thinking? That power can knock paint off a car, just imagine what it can do to a child's skin? There are thousands of good, honest, decent people that can't have children and this hockey puck has one and abuses it. She should be sent to prison for 20 years and power washed 3 times a day. Stupid biddy.

RedRiver, you are so right. The last time I washed my car I accidentally, for some stupid reason, stuck the palm of my left hand under the spray about 6 or so inches from the nozzle and it nearly took the hide off of my hand and left it bright red and it was sore a couple of days. Therefore, I cannot believe the police who said the child wasn't injured. If not this is a bad place to wash your car as I don't think without enough pressure to injure a child you would be able to get your vehicle clean. I think they all should we hosed down and in the nude. BTW, the enema is a good idea too.

why do people buy arguments like that from toxic mothers.
if the child has serious tantrum issues, where do you think she learned her extreme behavior. look no further than mom. who taught her by example. sick sick woman> did you know: women are 4 times more likely to abuse children than men?

I think extreme behavior can be learned from either parent, whichever one, as jordan 11 points out below, is around the child more often. The point is that destructive behavior is passed down, whether through nature or nurture, but it's the parents' responsibility to be mature and find ways to curb the behavior.
The key word here is "mature".

The police which don't think that is abuse need a little science lesson. 1000 psi can go right through your skin. Heck they give shots with a lot less pressure than that. It will push right through the pores. I think the woman along with the police officers should have to hold their forearm 6'' away from the front of the same washer for at least a min. then they can give their educated opinion on the matter.

Watch the videos again, the mother clearly tests the pressure with her own hand right at the nozzle. From the video and the reporters spraying you can tell there is very low pressure coming out of the wand. If it would have been a actual high pressure line though you would have been right but thankfully it wasn't and the media is just trying to sensationalize the entire event.

One of my buddies thought it would be cute to 'zap' me at VERY close range(about 3")...it cut my skin and forced water into my leg; had to go to the ER, so the guy said WTF and put the nozzle almost touching his car...moved it around, and found a flaw in the paint and blasted a couple of square inches of paint off...that was 20 years ago, and I still have a scar on the back of my leg...NEVER point a high pressure nozzle at anyone!!!

Shad, I learned from my own personal experience that powerwashers are not toys, I didn't go to the ER, but in hindsight I probably could have used a few stitches. That experience made me cringe when I first saw the video of the child being sprayed in the face. I don't think everyone realizes just how powerful those washers are, but she could have easily destroyed the child's eyes or ripped up her face.

Spanking is one thing...abuse is a skunk of a different stripe; I get boiling mad at those who say "Oh, that's not so bad..." this ain't a "f"ing contest, abuse is what-ever causes lasting damage to a kid in one or more of 3 categories...
(1)Physical
(2)Mental
(3)Emotional
Most abuse is classified as P/E...

Discipline is one thing, abuse is another. This was no mere garden hose or glass of water, it was a powerwasher, which is capable of splitting flesh at close distances. I still can make out a scar on my hand from when I got too close to one over 10 years ago. The mother (and child of course) is lucky not to have done permanent physical damage.
