Dead in the Water with a Broken Propeller »
Posted by: Spadecaller 1 year, 10 months agoFor several weeks members at Propeller.com have endured a malfunctioning website with patience and fortitude. Despite the repeated promises from Propeller's management team, the problems of navigating the web pages at Propeller persist and the toll that it is taking on its membership is regrettable.

March 7, 2008, 8 a.m.Submitting a story of this nature could certainly trigger ill feelings and reprisals from Propeller's management towards me. However, my hopes of keeping the door open to participating on a functioning web site with friends that I have come to know is more important to me and I am willing to take that risk.

March 7, 2008, 9:10 a.m.I have gotten some messages from friends who are no longer going to participate on Prop, or at least until the problem is fixed.
I have heard several different case scenerio's as to what the problem is. One being bandwidth, another being the construction on a New and Improved Propeller. Who knows which is true, or whether either of them is the case?
I love this community. That's pretty obvious, as much as i am here, and i certainly hate to see friends leave because of the problems that need fixing.
It's very discouraging.

March 7, 2008, 9:26 a.m.Yes, I would like to see this problem resolved, because like you, I believe there is so much meaningful dialog, good sharing, educations, and fun available here. At the same time, I believe this community deserves some honest and straightforward feedback. I think this entire issue could have been handled better without the loss of solid members.

March 7, 2008, 9:41 a.m.Yes, it's an ongoing - and indeed highly regrettable - issue that certainly calls for some serious remediating action.

March 7, 2008, 9:51 a.m.I just received a message from one friend that keeps getting virus messages from the site, but his scanners detect no viruses. He wanted to come here and post a comment, but now he first must check out his computer. This morning I have received several messages regarding this issue; that's what prompted me to finally post this article. It is quite frustrating trying to work around all these glitches.

March 7, 2008, 12:33 p.m.Sorry guys and girls I won't be on much today to contribute to this conversation, but things are being worked on as we speak, and things will be much better very shortly, I can't say too much more then that and it's not a cop out. I have spoken to a few one on one about all this, and agree and sympathize with you. I am also a regular user like the rest of you, submit, vote and comment and am dealing with the same issues. I wish I could give you a time line as to when things will be better but I can't, I can only say they will, sooner then later

March 7, 2008, 12:41 p.m.I have a big issue with people voting on spammy stories to the home page. A lot of these people are long time users, and I don't get why you would want that on YOUR homepage. We could all stop that from happening by not voting on it. We can't close a story if it has a bunch of "legit" votes. Right now I could probably pick out at least a half dozen of these stories.

March 7, 2008, 12:51 p.m.Hi Spade!
Good for you that you bring this up = and I'm certain that you won't be persecuted for it by the management!
I especially think it was very important for many people to get the reality check that these are really systematic problems which we have all been suffering and not individual problems. I recently changed my internet service and that coincided with a particularly dour period but I assumed that my new system was the problem..
It is worrying if we are losing tried and true and trusty members!
Especially if we're getting more of the bogus fly-by-night flim-flammers in their place.
There are probably 100 people at least whom I have "met" on propeller whom I would really miss if they were to disappear - as since you are our host here today it is only proper that I affirm that you are one of them. I'm sure that many of the others know who they are. The other marvellous side of this world is also "meeting" people whom you never would/will in real life.

March 7, 2008, 1:17 p.m.Spadecaller, I knew it would be you to submit this or Bkumm, lol!!! Well lets see where to start- I get many many messages a day asking whats going on with propeller, it can take me hours and NOW even longer to answer them back. And for the most part alot of them are asking me why arent the scouts and anchors answering them back, Im like heck I dont know, I myself can ONLY get 3 or 4 to answer me back out of all the ones that show up on shift. And before you guys say anything about its probably because they get so many spammers etc. well thats bull too because look how long Ive been a faithful member and I can only get 3 or 4 of you to answer me.
This needed to be brought up, this was a long time coming and I just dont have the time to waist sitting here waiting on this crap to work. Yes I know Ive been told its because all the Dev's are working on the new site well YOU SHOULDNT ABANDON the old one because you are loosing alot of members, continued.

March 7, 2008, 1:19 p.m.Respecting the anonymity of the sender, this is one of several personal messages that I have received today in regards to this story. Apparently, some people don't even want to hassle with coming to the thread to post their comments.
"Buggy, slow and riddled with spammers and sock puppets. Reporting abuse and spammers has little to no effect. Top stories aren't given a picture with the story on some days. Other days they are. Comments are lost sometimes in a mysterious void. I don't know what's going on with Propeller. It's sometimes frustrating."
Every remark that this person made reflects my experiences as well.

March 7, 2008, 1:30 p.m.Spadecaller: great that you posted this, and more power to your elbow!
I'm CERTAIN that this will not be an excommunicable offence.
The conditions are abnormal, no one from the management is trying to cover their asses and I believe that many of us have received assurances from individual members of the team, ones whom we "know and trust" in the vein of "We can't tell you exactly but it will be great"..
Its been awful - of course! Some people inevitably will have lost patience and for sure we will lose some friends. With luck they will miss us and check in once in a while and with luck will return, fresh from adventures elsewhere, with stories to tell and there'll be the pleasure of happy reunions! And some we'll lose and mourn.
And completely new ones will appear drawn by the buzzing of the shining new and fast-running propeller! And we survivors will be the MOST appreciative of all and you will run a marvellous 1000 comment thread about the BAD OLD DAYS!

March 7, 2008, 1:39 p.m.Hey g... ha ha ha!
By the way, I have only been able to contact a small number of friends to notify them about this story. My friends list is not working. I cannot tell who is online and who is not. So, whatever help any of you can provide, I would appreciate it. It would be nice to keep this community alive through this ordeal. And for those who are trying to fix their computers to no avail...they might want to know about this!

March 7, 2008, 2:28 p.m.I have been making do...
when it jams up, i check out other websites, or wait
when it works, i open multiple windows (5-10), and then go back and read them, when the next jam up occurs
i have noticed it recently got a bit better than last week (or three). i think its gonna be fine... (murphy was an optimist, too)
i hesitate to complain, (one of my more amiable traits?)... but certainly the website would be more enjoyable if i were able to navigate freely, without having to plan my clicks so carefully...
thanks sc, and good luck to all my fellow friends, propellerheads and scouts (and execs)

March 7, 2008, 4:04 p.m.Spade thanks for the invite! You sent me a link to your website though so I couldn't get here until I found it! I agree, this is very annoying. I think I'm a bit better off then most of you, possibly due to a better system, a better connection or just plain old dumb luck! My Propeller jams up about every eight to nine hours and only for a few moments, for the most part! This spam is what is annoying for me, perhaps its the fifth horsemen of the Apocalypse and is heralding the end of times and the arrival of the other four? But truly I have over 139 unclaimed friends and that number was at 12 just a week ago! I can tell outright that several of them are the same person, even the avatars are obviously made by the same person! I just ignore the spam in my inbox and it eventually goes away. The porn spam is what is annoying to me, on the comments. Several times unwary users have given positives to this and its reported multiple times and doesn't go away! I think these are bots!

March 7, 2008, 4:26 p.m.Some of the hangups and other things are annoying, but I think it has much more to do with them working on the new one much more than them (ah, the ubiquitous "them") not wanting to communicate with us.
My local grocery store is closing here in a couple of weeks and the staff is moving to a brand new store. They aren't fixing ANYTHING at the old store. The moving belts at check out don't work, the leak in the ceiling is still leaking and they have at least two broken registers. Why fix it when you're going to abandon it and move on? I think that's what's going on here.
So, I get a lot of solitaire played and I don't post or submit as much. No worries. It'll get fixed sooner or later.
Now, I'm off to my brother in law's birthday party. See you all later and have a FANTASTIC week-end!!!

March 7, 2008, 4:40 p.m.After I read your article, I could not get back to this page, in order to make a comment! Another glitch!
I thought that something was going wrong with my computer.
Hopefully things will get better, soon!
Thanks Spadecaller!

March 7, 2008, 4:52 p.m.It's a simple explanation as to why these issues are happening. Too many liberals are on Propeller. Propeller is trying to seek a natural balance.

March 7, 2008, 5:27 p.m.This is the slowest site on the web as far as I am concerned. It takes the enjoyment of posting and turns it into frustrating endeavor. To have it go on so long can only mean one of two things.....the personnel in charge of maintaining the hardware/software is in need of outside assistance, or the site is awaiting shut down.

March 7, 2008, 6:51 p.m.gamahuche Thank you. Your message was received and Yes, I have been experiencing a lot of problems, There will be friends listed and when i click it. I find no one on it. I'm going through my friends list now. There are a whole bunch wishing to get added and I know I'm not that easy. I think the site has been hacked or something. I accidentally clicked the wrong thing on a post and ended up on a porn site and could not get out. Had to cut my computer off by pulling the cord.
