The sexual offender list, the modern equivalent of the scarlet letter. How little we have advanced in 400 years. The irony is that the only sex crime for which offenders are not required to register is the only one for which the scarlet letter was mandated. Adultery not only can cause more trauma and destruction to a family than other sex crimes but the offenders are often multiple offenders.

Skeptic do you oppose the registry or are you just being philosophical? Most who view the registry understand that any harrasment of that individual is a crime. I don't understand what the dilemma is? If you had children, would you want that individual teaching their class or being the scout master for the pack?

With some studies saying one in three girls are sexually assaulted by the age of 18 can I ask where you intend on housing all these people? Not to mention the cost it would have on the economy and society at large? No sir the way to deal with this is not to only punish offenders but stop it from happening in the first place. And no I don't know how to assure that happens, but I do know the more open we talk about it and the less we isolate people who feel like doing it the more they can get help before they do it. Thats the grope/fondle/kissing group I'm speaking of mostly. The sex offender list is false security at best considering for every one caught countless others are undetected. Parents keep your kids close and don't count out anyone for being a possible offender.
