Same thing I was thinking. Too me, Obama is making light of a serious problem when he says the pastor is just like an old uncle he doesn't always agree with but is still family.
It's true, you can't help who you're related to, but this situation is entirely different. How hard would it be to publicly denounce Wright's views and change church membership. It makes it look to me like Obama is just playing both sides in an effort to appease everyone. Pure politics, though I think he'd better change strategies soon if he doesn't want to be the loser in this game.

    After what Bush and the GOP have done to this country for the last 8 years, there's no way in HELL weak and ridiculously amateurish political ploys like this will spare your party from the chopping block in November. No way. Heads are gonna be rollin and cons are gonna be wailing and spinning in even more of a panic than they are now. ROTFLMAO.         uh meso... have you been to that church's website? The anti-American sentiments remain to, if not THIS day, but at least to a day just last week.
        And, I was never "close" to my former pastor -- I never invited him to my house, never claimed for him to be my "spiritual leader". My husband's family had been a member of this church since its inception in 1639, but when he started making fun of people of other faiths from the pulpit, and then allowed a couple who were married, but not to each other, continue to be in charge of the kid's groups, I left that church. Perhaps I will return when this charleton leaves, but not while he's there, because what he says is so not compatible with what I believe.
        To stay in a church and keep close ties with a pastor for twenty years and then claim that you don't agree with him is == what's you're favorite word? Oh yeah, hypocrisy.

        --I've seen far more egregious examples of hypocrisy in the last 8 years, amazed. FAR more. This pales in comparison to some of what I've seen (and continue to see) from this administration and from those on the right.
