Obama's Pastor: God Damn America, U.S. to Blame for 9/11 »
Posted by: bobo-in-texas 1 year, 9 months agoSen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing "God Bless America" but "God damn America." In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.

March 13, 2008, 12:38 p.m.You know, it's okay for that pastor to criticize America. No problem.
But God help you if you criticize the pastor for criticizing America. That's just racist. And divisive. And a personal attack. We'll have none of that in this here presidential campaign.
Nope, only anti-American rhetoric can bring us together. That's what Barack's mantra of hope and change is all about, folks. America is evil and must be changed and the hope is to change it into a paradise of isolationism, wealth redistribution, and political correctness. Yup.
...he makes the world taste good!

March 13, 2008, 4:41 p.m.He's a Muslim! His pastor hates America! His church is racist! He's the Candyman!! He's all flash and no substance!! Geraldine Ferraro is telling the truth!!!
Well, which is it? I've got family members who think that evolution is a conspiracy to go after Christians. I have family members who think that Black people are not equal to White people. I've got family members who believe we didn't land on the Moon.
Does that mean, by association, that I believe those things? Of course not.
Further, the pastor isn't all wrong. He's not all right either, but he's not all wrong. While the US did not bring 9/11 on ourselves, we aren't guiltless in it either. And for some Blacks, especially when this pastor was growing up, I'm certain that they often asked themselves why they should ask God to bless America. Dogs, water hoses and the story of Emmett Louis Till should remind us of that.

March 13, 2008, 5:33 p.m.Son, no one is intimidated when you wingers use terms like "anti-American" or "treason" so please stop acting as if you people have the patriotism market covered. Ya don't. You're not the party of family values, you're not the party of limited government, you're not the party of fiscal responsibility, and you're sure as hell not the party of patriotism.
We both know that what's "anti-American" is in the eye of the beholder. I think bankrupting the US several times over for a war that's destroying our country is about as "anti-American" as it gets. I think spying on Americans and scaring them with lies, while trying to shield phone companies from lawsuits is very un-American. I also think constantly begging for tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy while fighting ferociously to prevent 10 million children from having health insurance is not only un-American--it's CRIMINAL. But that's just me...

March 13, 2008, 5:52 p.m.Damn, that was a tough read. I realize that Obama and the pastor are two separate people, but come on, he's been a member of the congregation for 20 years. How can Obama blithely dismiss Wright's inflammatory rhetoric?

He's not ready for primetime and his bombastic flourishes are better suited for some kind of left leaning professor at an upscale university. His "Change crusade" sooner or later will be recognized for what it is and come to an abrupt end.

March 13, 2008, 9:45 p.m.Last time I checked, freedom of speech is still valid in this country. You may not like the way Rev. Wright has expressed his views, but there is undeniable truth in what he has said. this country, as a whole, is eaten up with hypocrisy!! We have done as much damage, and possibily more, than any other country on the planet! Rev. Wright's comments are brutal, to be sure, but they are not inaccurate.
God IS no respecter of persons, and that means that we (America) will reap what we sow, just like everybody else. You don't have to like it (I don't!), but it's still true.
As for Barack Obama, you are condemning him to guilt by association, and giving him NO credit for being the independent, critical thinker he is. I am no genius, but I can distinguish between what somebody else says and what I personally believe. I think Barack Obama is capable of doing the same, and there is nothing in the way he has conducted himself to indicate otherwise.

March 13, 2008, 10:07 p.m.What better place to preach about hating the very country that gives you freedom of religion and speech than in church.

Obama's rank-&-file, as well as the majority black U.S. population intend to "shame" the average anglo-saxon into voting for this otherwise unqualified interloper.
With regards to his pastor - remember, "The nut doesn't fall to far from the tree".
Actually, if I thought our country could (possibly) survive 4-years of this clown, I'd campaign for him! Indeed, perhaps that's what it will finally take to wake-up the Starbutts drinking, global-warming believing, kangaroo-rat extinction paranoid hypocrites of our once great nation.
Let's see how the lefties explain "Jimbo" Carter, ACT II.
Yep, four years of this guy is 'bout all it will take; that is, IF there is any America left to discuss.

March 13, 2008, 10:32 p.m.It's so funny how anything that doesn't go along with your view of America you label anti-American! That is the problem the Pharisees and Saducees had with Jesus, they were so "righteous" and "holier than thou"....and they were also DEAD WRONG!! They didn't want to hear anything Jesus had to say because His views were UNPOPULAR, and BLASPHEMOUS, and TREASONOUS in their self important view!
He couldn't tell them ANYTHING: The more things change, the more they stay the same!

March 14, 2008, 1:03 a.m.if Obama had said those things there might be a point here.
Obama is not his pastor.
here's a story about Bush's old minister who has endorsed Obama for president:

according to bobo's logic, if Bush's old minister says Obama should be the next president, then Bush must also be thinking the same thing.

March 14, 2008, 1:28 a.m.Ah, well. After reading all these post from these small-minded men and women, it's just nice to know that in November they're going to have to suck in their bile and call Obama "president".
Because, remember... for seven years they've screamed and yelled about how you can't say anything bad about a sitting president? I wonder if they're going to be the same way when Obama is in the Oval Office and not Bush?
Methinks not.
Ah, that's going to be a good day, and ... my friends... it's coming. Because the more they open their lily-livered mouths, the more they show their true colors.

March 14, 2008, 5:46 a.m.Might be that what shines through here can develope into a fatal coalition between islamic fundamentalists and those among the black Americans who feel discriminated and experience themselves as not being part of the American Dream.
Apart from that, I think, it is high time, not only for America, but for the whole western world, to rethink Huntington´s theses of a "Clash of Civilizations" and start to ask where all this hate comes from.

March 14, 2008, 5:53 a.m.It seems that this may be guilt by association. His Wife has uttered and repeated hate America comments in the recent past. The Obama campaign has blocked public access to her masters thesis for some reason. All others are available for public viewing at her former college website. I see a pattern here. March 14, 2008, 6:48 a.m.Here is my take. I have many friends that I love and trust. quite a few of those if not most hold ideas that are contrary to the beliefs that I hold close and dear. Our disagreements range from politics and religion to the war , drugs, and gun control. The only thing I disallow is racism. Should I disown my friends who disagree with me? Or should I keep them close and try to help them see what I think is right? Should I be held accountable for their ideas even though I may disagree with them?

March 14, 2008, 7:49 a.m.The pastor does not hate America- he is criticizing the U.S. for the horrible things our leaders have perpetrated in our names- We have allowed the politicians to take away our power- we are NOT the "freest in the world" Far from it. March 14, 2008, 9:59 a.m.Considering that audio of this nutjob preacher ranting AGAINST the U.S. has been aired, it seems to me that the only thing Barry can rationally do (if he hopes to stay in the race) is to A) claim he was NEVER present when the guy said anything remotely LIKE this, and B) get a new church IMMEDIATELY and put as much distance between himself and this guy as possible, as quickly as possible. March 14, 2008, 11:09 a.m.Rush to judgment, beware. How many times have we heard a sensational line only to find out in context there as a valid message. Wait until you heard the whole message, then judge. Many a sermon had a line with shock value, that made a hard to deny point. I know many members who stay with their church, because on average, the messages are not extreme. Dr. King he wasn't flattering on America for its inhumanity and the especially the War (remember Gen Westmoreland). Don't act dumb on a oneliner, we invaded Iraq on a lie; Blacks have memories of Jim Crow laws, Greenwood, Rosewood, Gov Tuskegee Experiments (no not the Airman, live syphilis injections). Understand history from the Black prospective and appreciate Obama's will to develop character as well as prepare to heal the nation, that's worth being open minded to. Fear not, Black Folk are walking around looking for revenge, rather to fix the problem. Segregation was in my lifetime; today, I am not sure we earned a gold star.

March 14, 2008, 12:45 p.m.It's funny that you crazy conservatives and morons wanna harp on this guy for speaking an inconvenient truth about America's involvement in the Middle East pre-9/11 (though I would said incompetence, not terrorism). "The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America."
I thought the three strikes law was developed on behalf of victims like Polly Klaas, the little white girl who was kidnapped and murderered by white man Richard Allen Davis. Jeremiah seems to think that Davis was a black guy on crack.

March 15, 2008, 1:34 a.m.Well, I heard and saw obama's preacher preaching on YouTube. He may sound stupid, Jihadist, and racist toward whites, but, he's not boring. His delivery is very theatric and fiery, quite charasmatic and angry. I mean, no matter HOW crazy and stupid he may sound, you can't help but feel exhilerated, as if you'd almost want to MARCH to it. I can see why Obama would have him as a mentor, especially if he wasn't paying attention to the racially divisive rhetoric someone like Farakhan or a Muslim Jihadist would be proud of. I mean, no WONDER the Muslims want Obama as the next President. Perhaps they will get their wish?
