    The article touches on it a little, but think that there needs to be an accurate definition of what sleep is.

    Though it has its own problems, I would tend to trust numbers from the historical, diary-keeping methodology most.

    Also, there is no mention of naps. This is a reasonably common subject in health literature these days. Does taking a nap at mid-day reduce the need for sleep or make whatever sleep time one has better?

            I will point out the obvious here: Asking someone over the phone how much sleep they get at night - and getting back an off the cuff answer - is a LOT different from tabulating written records.
