Human Rights and Freedom of the Press, USA Style.
If Iraq is an independent sovereign country with its own constitution and government, how can a foreign government like USA arrest someone in that country?
So, who is really in charge there?

Our laws there apply in a rather selective manner. Remember the Blackwater shootout that left 8 unarmed civilians dead? In that case, the US said that it could not prosecute them because the shootings happened on foreign soil. Oh and they said Iraq's laws didn't apply to them because they were US contractors. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/ira...

I never believe anything the AP says. When Reuters, the BBC, NBC, or NPR say the US is arresting jouranlist to control information flow, then I'll believe.
The AP has a long history of being the only news agency making accusations against the US that are false. The international news community never follows suit.

He's been in a military jail for two years? Is he being held as an enemy combatant, or what? I remember many years ago when I'd have said hurrah for the good guys, meaning us of course. Boy, was I naive'. Anyway, they need to give him a public trial, so the world can see what's going on. Otherwise, this looks bad for the 'good guys.'

one of those photos won him the pulitzer prize in 05. don't you think it's about time he was charged and put on trial or is everybody getting real cosy with the idea that people just disappear into the US black hole of indefinite detention these days?

It seems to be beyond the bash America crowd's comprehension that in ALL war zones, the flow of information is necessarily restricted. They don't seem to realize that the journalists in Iraq have unprecendented freedom in comparison to other wars. Do you think Edward R. Murrow would have been allowed to broadcast troop movements or ANYTHING that was harmful to our cause. Of course, it is also likely that back then the journalists were adult enough and patriotic enough to not deliberately do whatever they could to undermine the US effort.

amazed: "They don't seem to realize that the journalists in Iraq have unprecendented freedom in comparison to other wars."
unprecedented freedom? this is THE MOST CENSORED WAR EVER!!
"Reporting Iraq: Journalists' Coverage of a Censored War
By Onnesha Roychoudhuri, AlterNet. Posted February 8, 2008.
In one episode Rajiv Chandrasekaran of the Washington Post recalls the difficulty of getting any relevant information from the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA): "Well, off the record," CPA advisor Dan Senor told him, "Paris is burning, but on the record, security and stability are returning to Iraq." Such double-speak motivated reporters to take great risks to find the facts -- and spurred a wartime environment where journalists have now come to rely heavily on Iraqi stringers who, unlike western reporters, are able move more freely around the country."

So just what is the US effort in Iraq? It can't be because Saddam had anything to do with 9/11 as stated by Bush
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_A77N5WKWM&feat...
Bush did say the Iraqis had resentment and lack of hope against the US. Could it be they resented us because we were bombing them since 1991? They lost hope that it would ever stop?
The US effort couldn't have been because Saddam had WMD's, listen to Powell and Rice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHnSPsZshyM
So just what was the cause to go to Iraq? Listen to this report from 60 Minutes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWkGhV3PsLo&feat...
We didn't liberate the Iraqi people, we killed them, arrested any that resisted, blew up their neighborhoods and let them live in encampments.
