Racial Double standard on Obama, preachers »
Posted By Aidenag 1 year, 7 months ago in NewsWhen Sen. Obama's preacher thundered about racism and injustice, Obama suffered smear-by-association. But when my late father - religious right leader Francis Schaeffer denounced America and even called for the violent overthrow of the U.S. government, he was invited to lunch with presidents Ford, Reagan and Bush Sr.

Exerpts from the article:
Every Sunday thousands of right-wing white preachers (following in my father's footsteps) rail against America's sins from tens of thousands of pulpits.
Dad and I were amongst the founders of the religious right. In the 1970s and 1980s, while Dad and I crisscrossed America denouncing our nation's sins, instead of getting in trouble we became darlings of the Republican Party.
We were rewarded for our "stand" by people such as Congressman Jack Kemp, the Fords, Reagan and the Bush family. The top Republican leadership depended on preachers and agitators like us to energize their rank and file. No one called us un-American.
People neg me for constantly screaming "DOUBLE STANDARD" but it's what the cons were founded on, from the horses mouth! FROM THE HORSES MOUTH!

Exactly, this is a major double standard going on. One only needs to look at the Hagee/McCain incident to see it. This is a guy who calls the catholic religion "The great ******". And who supports israel because he believes they must be there, and be killed in a great war, so he and his evangelicals can start the end times and float up to heaven...
Then their is pat robertson and falwell within days of 9/11 blaming it on their own country.... Same as they did with Hurricane Katrina..
Just goes to show, if your a White preacher, you can say whatever you want. Not only that, you can say it and get invited to the White House to be a spirutual advisor to our current president! Who declared a national day of mourning when falwell died even..

More exerpts!
Dad became a hero to the evangelical community and a leading political instigator. When Dad died in 1984 everyone from Reagan to Kemp to Billy Graham lamented his passing publicly as the loss of a great American. Not one Republican leader was ever asked to denounce my dad or distanced himself from Dad's statements.
Take Dad's words and put them in the mouth of Obama's preacher (or in the mouth of any black American preacher) and people would be accusing that preacher of treason.
Yet when we of the white religious right denounced America, white conservative Americans and top political leaders called our words "godly" and "prophetic" and a "call to repentance."
Lord, i will have a stroke on this site one of these days, while the cons cheer no doubt!

End of the article:
Funny thing is, the racist Clinton/far-right smear machine proves that Obama's minister had a valid point. There is plenty to yell about these days.
Here is a man who with his father helped found the religious right, who clearly denounced his connections to them for many reasons. Sadly not a one of the cons on here will read this, and even if they did, they would denounce him. PITIFUL!

weLL look notty.
We Christian Conservatives dont see it liek that.
We see the union of the Fundamentalist Christians with the Republicans as a mutually convenient marriage. Kind of a 'Common Law Marriage' so to speak.
The Republicans needed our mailing lists. Cause, as everybody knows, a good mailing list is worth its weight in GOLD - for ANY buisness - but especially for our Christian outreach - where we outreach for fund raisin.
The Christians needed political power. They needed that bully pulpit. The Christian Conservative is liek a million points of light, all scattered around the country. They needed an outside body to unify em into one union. Yeah, weare liek a workers union. Chrisitans are the workers, and the Republican party is liek our union bosses.
Its a good match. Republicans dont believe in makin goverment effective (think Katrina FEMA & Iraq incompetence). And Christians see goverment as a seculirist debil.

Reverend Wright said nothing in a more contemptuous manner than wrong wing weirdo's have said. The difference is, the weirdo's attack gays, 'feminists', 'liberals'.....so no prob. Wright attacked white racists. Can't have that. Everyone knows the consequences of racism is no problem, and don't you dare say it is. Ironically, the backlash from the wrong wing proves he's right, but they're too stupid to see it.

Two wrongs don't make a right. These people are in direct opposition of what is taught by Christ. How sad that these preachers are trying to do what the religious leaders of Jesus's day were trying to force him to do.
Betray the teachings of God for the teachings of man.
This is where so many fall off the track and are lost. It is not up to us to try and make God fit what we want. It is up to us to fit into what God wants.
That is not hatred, but love. When preachers preach hatred they preach the work of evil. It seems to me I remember Jesus saying to love your enemy. That when you love him even though he may condemn you. God will take care of the matter and your enemy will surely suffer if they do not repent.
I guess I just don't understand men of God preaching hatred when they should preach love.
Hatred kills, Love fills.
Your choice.

I am sick & tired of the venom & intolerance pouring forth from the religious pulpit. When the right wing denounces the left wing & visa-versa, you end up flying in circles & eventually crash.
I might be naive, but I don't want anyone in the position of leading my country who would align themselves with any religious leader who preaches hate of any American, based solely upon their race or creed.

That's right Spadecaller.
Racism is practiced by all races. Wright is one of the worst. Racism is supported by those who beat the drum talking about it. The more it is talked about the more problems are created.
Unethical hyper-partisanship like moveon.org? They are really wacko but you think they are just fine. The absolute hate that spews out of the left is horrid. But they are blind to their hatred.
Those Hitler like Christians are all out to get everybody. Your bias stinks. Every time you post about Christians you tell everybody your hatred of them. Corporate wars, you are sick.

let me remind everyone that aids biggest victums at the beginning of the out break was the gay community. Now that unsafe sex practices and drug use has brought into the black community is NO ones fault but the Black communities. That Black men are killing other black men every night with guns is No ones fault but the Black community. Everyone be it Black , white, mexican, ect. is responsible for their own actions. The black communtiy will never rise playing the race card. The Hip Hop cuture is NO better than the Head banger Cuture both our insuring that our youth stays dumb and have NO future.
If I was preaching in a Black Church I would be preaching "Yes you can.but nothing is given to you in lfe.Yes you can but you have to learn, Yes you can and dont depend on the government to take care of you. Yes you can use your brain ,use your talents.

The only safe sex practice is a monogamous one. Condoms pass some of the STD's through the wall of the condom. The failure rate of condoms is 1 in 15 per Consumer Reports. A form of Russian Roulette.
This is a dirty secret that the "Safe Sex" crowd doesn't want people to hear.
Your comments are right on.

Keep your attention on Rev. Wright but smearing Obama by association is what we are arguing about. If you smear Obama then smear McCain also. Or don't smear either of them because they are not responsible for what their preachers say and both have condemned and repudiated them. Far right evangelical preachers have preached hate and condemnation for years and not a peep from you but one black uppity preacher who calls whites devils must be tarred and feathered and run out of Dodge City. You don't see the hypocrisy? Guess not.
