The Road to 'Operation Iraqi Freedom' »

Posted by: populist 1 year, 9 months ago

As the war in Iraq enters its sixth year, a common refrain from politicians who supported the invasion is "don't dwell on the past, think about the future." It is an argument that distracts Americans from the important lessons that this history can teach.

Unfortunately, we seem to follow a pattern of not learning from our mistakes. Without reflecting upon what has worked and not worked in the past, we are doomed to repeat it.

Entering our 6th year with no end in sight. This is absolutely unacceptable, we should get someone with a brain to end this mess or get out. Its time to stop wasting lives and resources on a never-ending occupation.

If you want more of the same, vote McCain.

The idea for this invasion is simply a carryover from GW1 when the decision was made not to press on to Baghdad. Guess which side Cheney was on? After H.W. Bush went down in defeat Cheney organized PNAC along with Rummy, Wolfie, Feith and creeps like Bill Kristol. For years they argued that Iraq must be re-invaded. 9/11 brought there only opportunity, they had even referred to the need for "a New Pearl Harbor". They knew that otherwise they would never have the public support. Know five years after the invasion for them to call this anything but a failure goes against their own words. You estimate the cost at 50 billion and it becomes 1 trillion and that's not a failure? We lost very few troops in the initial push but have lost 4,000 since. The ones truly lost in the midst are over a 100,000 medical evacuees out of Iraq. More than half of which have no physical injury. Guess what's wrong with them?

We should be ashamed we were ever governed by such men.
