March 22, 2008, 4:25 p.m.WASHINGTON (CNN) â;; The CEO of a company whose employee is accused of improperly accessing the passport files of presidential candidates is a consultant to the Obama campaign, a source familiar with the firm said Saturday.
John Brennan, president of The Analysis Corporation (TAC), advises the Illinois Democrat on foreign policy and intelligence issues, the source said.
Brennan briefed the media on behalf of the campaign earlier this month. The executive is a former senior CIA official and former interim director of the National Counterterrorism Center. He contributed $2,300 to the Obama campaign in January.

March 22, 2008, 4:47 p.m.FTA The other two contractors, who worked for Stanley Inc., were fired. Stanley has had contracts with the department since 1992, and was recently awarded a $570 million contract to continue providing support for passport processing. Its CEO, Philip Nolan, contributed $1,000 to the Clinton campaign.

March 22, 2008, 5:25 p.m.This really is a none news story, I agree that it's out just to take the heat off Obama and the Rev Wright debacle. Now, Barack Hussein Obama insists on a congressional hearing, now that's an inflated ego.
There is a lesson here for the rest of us as it was reported many times that there is a security system at the State Dept which will "red flag" a file of a well known person or celebrity if the file is accessed without authorization. That so nice but what about the rest of us? Heck, those contract employees can check any average John or Jill file busily and happily collecting names, SSN#'s and dobs. Would
those files come to anyones attention? I don't think so.
Now imagine, universal government health care, do you think your extremely personal medical information will be safe? Scary, huh?

March 23, 2008, 11:37 a.m.What makes you think it's safe now? Did you ever read the fine print on the documents you sign before being admitted into a hospital?

March 22, 2008, 5:26 p.m.I haven't been watching the news much the last day or two, but all three were accessed I saw this morning and is confirmed in this article:
"On Friday, the department revealed that Obama's passport file was improperly accessed three times in 2008, and the passport files of the two other major presidential candidates â;; Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican John McCain â;; had also been breached."
And now, we find out that the guy who peeked at the files actually works for a company that provides consulting to the Obama campaign?
Wonder if Obama will continue to call for congressional hearings at this point?

March 22, 2008, 5:54 p.m.Politics & politicians have reverted back to the primordial pond life we all came from. Alas, they have retained the ability of speach (well, lying).......
Can anyone honestly say they are surprised by this article ??

March 22, 2008, 6:24 p.m.So where is everyone that was sure it was Bush's administration's fault? I really don't hear them barking as loud as they were just a few short hours ago.
I said this before this story ever happened. Obama is business as usual when it comes to crooked politics. He is no different than any other politician.

March 22, 2008, 6:59 p.m.Why am I not surprised by this? Also, will this story be put on the anchors list as the first one was?

March 22, 2008, 9:11 p.m.I was sure that Sandy Berger was behind all this. ;-)
Seriously, if I were into conspiracies I would think that Obama's people came up with this to take us off the Wright fiasco.

"Two Stanley subcontractor employees were involved in the unauthorized access of Senator Barack Obama's passport files," a Stanley, Inc., spokeswoman said. "In each of these instances the employee was terminated the day the unauthorized search occurred."
One Stanley, Inc., contractor looked at Obama's passport records on January 9, and then a second Stanley employee accessed similar Obama records on February 21, U.S. officials familiar with the controversy told NBC News.
Stanley's Chairman and CEO, Philip Nolan, has made political contributions to prominent Republican candidates and also gave $1,000 to Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign

March 23, 2008, 12:07 a.m.I don't know why the political affiliations of the bosses of the people who were caught looking int these files matters.
do you share the political opinions of your boss? would you commit a crime for him/her if you do?
how much money would it take to get a person to commit a identity theft crime against all three front runners? don't you think an investigation will show that? and then, when the money is traced, accusations can be made.
personally I think this is perpetrated by the same people who put forth the wright "controversy" , the same people who orchestrated the swift boating, and the flag amendment, and the marriage amendment,...all distractions designed to prevent the public from focusing on the issues at hand and actually solving our problems.. which would mean disrupting the status quo.
as to who these people are.. look at a list of people who contribute to both campaigns.. PACs, Lobbyists, Military-Industrial, Banks, Insurance COs, etc. I

March 23, 2008, 3:19 a.m.It's astounding to see how much cynicism and paranoia can be aroused by a news story that is really no big deal.
And I must admit that my initial reaction to the story was that some right-wing conservative working in a politicized State Dept. had been doing some dumpster diving, looking for something to smear on Obama. Maybe a cousin of whoever reviewed and edited maybe hundreds of hours of church tapes in order to extract the most sensational rhetoric.
As the story developed, however, I came to my senses and realized that it is most likely just the usual bureaucratic ineptitude coupled with human curiosity. Another tempest in a teapot, much ado about nothing.
Why don't we all just stop expecting the worse of each other and cut our political opponents some slack? Do you think it might be possible to do this, in today's poisonous political climate? I HOPE so.
And I say: YES, WE CAN!

March 23, 2008, 9:31 a.m.Point is, everyone at State, whether employee or contractor, knew there was a tripwire and that their actions would be made public. It does not matter who did it or why. What matters is that we all let this story be the non-starter it is and thereby not let "them" pull "our" strings. Fill in the blanks for them and our as you see fit.

March 23, 2008, 9:39 a.m.Sorry, Klarissa, this is the same type of smear crap I was complaining about in Needy's post yesterday.
Even if the contractor DOES support Obama( and he's probably at least against two of the candidates even if he's not actually FOR someone) it doesn't mean the EMPLOYEES support Obama. I have several employees whose politics are drastically different from mine.
This whole thing smacks of a couple of bored, not-too-bright clerks just sightseeing.
They were fired. It is done.
