Posted By tanglang 1 year, 7 months ago in Science & TechnologyHere is a Youtube video from the US Fish and Wildlife service about White Nose Syndrome and the toll it's taking on bats at Chester Mine in Mass. As many as 8-9000 bats in this one location could die off this winter.

Winter is now over and we still do not have any answers as to what is causing WNS. We are still not any closer to finding those answers either.

Now that the weather is heating up we will start seeing the full effects of this and the population of insects throughout the NE. The smallest of these bats eats 600 mosquitos every hour during their feeding times.
Bronx, you and all our other northeastern friends needs to invest in some good bug spray.

Man is the biggest cause in the upset of the balance of nature.
Some will say so a few bats die, but not realize that a bat eats 6 times its body weight a day in insects, mainly mosquitoes, enter in West Nile disease or such.

Lol! I have actually been all over the east coast these past two months searching caves for signs of WNS. Some say that man is the cause of spreading the disease, but it is even apparent in caves/mines that have recently been opened where man has been kept out for 25 years. The fungus that is found on the nose seems to be a plant borne fungus. Perhaps the bats are eating moths that have contracted a fungus from plants???
Right now we are predicting a six figure death toll in NY alone.

There's a weird cancer creating disease that's killing off Tazmanian Devils. A disease that deforms them into something uglier than they are. But, the T.D.s aren't keeping us from bein innundated with bugs like the bats, so, I hope this fungus can be beaten or, you'll definitely want to be wearing a helmet when driving through the country on your "hog"...unless you're REALLY hungry like a bat yourself.

We saw a little brown bat last Thursday while it was snowing outside, we were at the YMCA in the pool and it was in there flying around the pool. I thought it very strange, even tho it was the 1st. day of Spring, I didn't know they left hybernation until later.....
