Let's Bring the Troops Home Now! »
Posted by: populist 1 year, 8 months agoShortly after the American invasion of Iraq, in a rare admission of dissent in the American public, the President said you are either with the 'us' or you are with the terrorists. In hindsight, it is clear that Bush and his cronies are the ones who are at odds with the American people and the democratic traditions of this nation.

March 25, 2008, 11:33 a.m.The right plan, in the short term, is the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq. Now. Not when the violence "subsides." Not when Iraq has a stable government. Not when more Iraqi forces are trained. Not when the Democrats tell us the war is over, not when the Republicans tell us the war is over, and not when we have a new president.
The time to leave Iraq is now. Not in the fall. Not next year. Not next month or next week. Today, not tomorrow - right now.

March 25, 2008, 12:28 p.m.IMO, Bush is the worst terrorist in the world, but for some reason the world has allowed him to do his dirt.
Iraq will NEVER have a stable govt. It's not who they are. These are a tribal people, and have done what they are doing for thousands of years. They can't be spoon fed democracy, and to think it's just that simple is naive or downright stupidity. More than likely the latter!

March 25, 2008, 1:06 p.m.We have been eyewitnesses to the worst fiasco the U.S. has ever initiated. It is a NO win situation, the withdawl should be as rapid as physically possibly. GET THE TROOPS OUT!!!

March 25, 2008, 1:51 p.m.I've been against it from the beginning. It was wrong to go in. It was wrong to Shock n' Awe a city of 5,000,000. I knew war crimes would be committed by our troops, because every army commits war crimes. They always have and always will. War crimes are inseparable from war.
That being said I don't think we can just fly everyone out within the next week. We need a system for orderly withdrawal and a way to handover power to the Iraqis.
Unfortunately, to a certain extent I do subscribe to the Powell Pottery Barn metaphor, "If you break it, you own it."

March 25, 2008, 4:15 p.m.Bush is an idiot. He has an I.Q. of 91 which is one less than his father who main achievement is a phase "the New World Order". 9-11 attacks were an inside job and the Administration was at least complicit in the attack. Democracy doesn't exist in the USA as Bush has passed laws which usurp people & states powers. He put the National Gard under Federal jurisdiction so that he wouldn't have to institute the draft. He hired Blackwater to do the nation's dirty work at an enormous cost.Haliburton make $100 per load of laundry but I guess it wasn't enough as they moved the head office to Dubai. America is a farce in the eyes of the world with corruption rampant and all the politicians bought.

March 25, 2008, 4:26 p.m.Lord God Reagan had the guts (or severe lack of test icles) to leave after the Beirut fiasco. I guess foreign policy today really requires no guts, but only test icles.

March 25, 2008, 4:34 p.m.The thing that this ENTIRE idea hinges on is this: The fundamental belief that the Iraqi people are either too stupid, too lazy, or too immature to be able to take care of themselves. And, we the people of the United States, have mostly fallen for this line of crap. Yes, they had Saddam. We helped put him there. Yes, they were subject to a brutal dictator. THEY put up with it. (just as we apparently do) Yes, they have had internal conflicts for CENTURIES. Considering the racial problems and civil war we had here -- do we have room to talk? Presuming for a moment that the BIG LIE about them not being able to take care of themselves is off the table, what would you think is the reason we have been occupying Iraq for 5 years? Something to do with OIL and/or huge government war contracts, maybe?

March 25, 2008, 9:07 p.m.The other day, my China manufacturer said that the U.S. president has destroyed the dollar and our economy. I never told him anything about Bush. I had just sought quotes as to certain products and he came back in bold letters about how bad the U.S. president is. Everybody in the world understands the situation. The Iraq War should be ended immediately without delay, but of course, that won't happen because Big Oil is running the show in Iraq. If the troops leave, who will protect Big Oil? If the Jews bomb the Arabs or vice versa, I don't care.

March 25, 2008, 9:11 p.m.I not believe that we went into Iraq as " an act of vengance, a blind lashing out at some Arab nation as retribution for the lives lost in 2001." I believe we went there for economic reasons, more specifically to secure a government there that would be reliable in selling us oil, just like our pals the Saudis. Recently even Alan Greenspan was quotes as saying that "It is a politically inconvenient truth that we went into Iraq because of oil". He also stated that, even if we had a good result at this point in time, any economic benefit we could have derived is already vastly exceeded by what the war has cost us so far. And that's only counting the money, not the loss of lives and the physical and psychological damage to the injured survivors.

March 25, 2008, 9:12 p.m.Tony, good point. I think we need to have a coordinated effort to get out of Iraq. Withdrawal immediately would be catastrophic. Hill/Obama/McCain are not gonna get us out. I would bet the farm on that. I think the best strategy is to build refineries in the US for the first time in 30 years. Drill in ANWAR and other places we know it exists. Tell the enviros and the folks in the Middle East to get bent. Pursue nuclear power plants (heck even the cowardous French have nuke power) and live off what we can produce. It can all be finance by stopping this ethanol debacle and as a byproduct of this plan the price of groceries would go down. This might be the change Obama is so vague on.

March 25, 2008, 10:12 p.m.The cut and run Demoshrills are still trying. I thought they were being quiet about this because they saw they were losing with the white flag Harry idea. Looks like they want to change their mind.

March 25, 2008, 11:25 p.m.This has been said before, but I think it bears repeating. If you go into a country, remove it's leader, try and set up a government like yours, what is going to happen? What would you do if you lived in that country?
I bet you wouldn't just fall in line to do the conqueror's bidding.
What were we thinking of?
A question I have is, if we get out now, what about all those Iraqis that helped us? Will they be running for their lives, in a world of hurt?
We need to put some smart people in charge of making some sense out of this, keeping out soldiers safe, trying to make for a stable Iraq.
Are there any statesmen left to lead this country? All we have these days are politicians.

March 26, 2008, 12:56 a.m.The exit plan for Iraq has already been established, you will leave the same way you left vietnam.
I just hope you treat your returning soldiers better this time, they are the only people deserving credit.
A poorly handled exit is now the next stage to this nightmare its just a matter of how many more die before its implemented.

March 26, 2008, 8:08 a.m.If Bush does get OBL the liberals will still be unsatisfied like kids nagging in the backseat. My advice to them is sit down, be quiet, let us drive, and we'll tell you when we get there.
