Obama faces prejudice on all sides »
Posted By Aidenag 1 year, 7 months ago in NewsBarack Obama has a problem. Nearly a quarter of Democrats who hold a negative view of him believe he is a Muslim, according to a poll published by Pew Research on Thursday. Yet most Democrats who think negatively of Mr Obama also disapprove of his link to Jeremiah Wright, the pastor who introduced him to Christianity two decades ago.

I am glad about all the articles that have been submitted about Obama on here. All the people who tooted their horns about being from the party of Lincoln, raved about Bush having the most diverse cabinet of any other pres, now show their true colors. Bigots!
Obama wasn't even raised by his father, nor was he raised by his step father, he was raised mostly by his grand parents and they weren't Muslim. All any intelligent person would have to do to get to the truth, if they wanted the truth, would be to read Obama's bio or watch his biography on the biography channel.
All the vicious rumors and enuendo hasn't kept him from basically defeating Hillary thus far, i don't think it will stop him from here on out, otherwise we will have more Bush years and we can't stand any more. They have already bled Americans dry, there's no more to get!

So true, not2needy. The RNC uses diversity to get votes but confined to subordinate levels, where "those people" can easily be controlled. Witness Colin Powell, who was purged and Condi, who did as Masta said, regardless of what that entailed.
The Willie Horton ad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC9j6Wfdq3o
The Harold Ford ad. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/10/26/polit...
The modern KKK is smart enough to use code words now instead of lynchings. But the racism is just as clear today as it was when they lynched opponents and burned crosses to intimidate anyone who opposed their oligarchy. And its purpose is just as clear. To maintain an oligarchy.

Well put yourselfs in our Christian Cosnervatives shoes!
We are lookin at a complete failure of the Bush administration - an administration we believed in with all our harts.
And to get that Bush in office, we REJECTED John McCain!
Now, Ill let that sink in. ...
...
...
aGain, in 2000, we considered John McCain to be a very poor second (or third) best choice after Goerge W. Bush.
So now, after the incredible failures - at almost every level of governance - of the Bush administration, we are sayin that we now want America to accept what we already REJECTED!
So, we are really in a very, very weak position.
And as any Machiavellian political manipulator will tell you, when you dont have a good quality candidate, you smear the other guy any way you ken.
And you do it early, often, and loudly.
Plus, it dont hurt that we Conservatives OWN media. How many tiems have you heard bout Reverend Wrights comments compared to John Hagees?

Sadly this is the case. At least he is not a liar like Hillary
and I can only hope people wake up before they give her the nomination. She doesn't care about Americans...she cries only for herself. If she becomes President it will be another dark cloud over America. She really is arrogant and she shows her sense of entitlement. Let's call he "PRUNE FACE"!!!!!!

The ignorance of a portion of our populace is overwhelming. How can people be so stupid and manage to live? How can he be Muslim if his pastor is Christian. Do the people who hold these inconsistent views understand what they think they believe? In credible.

Those who actually believe it believe it because they want to. Then there are those don't believe it but see absolutely nothing wrong with lying because it might get their guy elected....funny thing is, THEY call THEMSELVES Christians.

It is really interesting to read the comments by that pompous windbag Pat Buchanan, giving a sermon on ethics and morality, when his only claim to fame comes as a speech-writer for that eternally condemned crook who became the only modern President who left the Office in disgrace. Pat and his posse of crooks of Nixon years have poisoned our political landscape for a long time! It is best if they walk into political sunset and let the world say a final goodbye to their poisonous era.
Pat thinks that because he was born white, the white race is superior! His charitable concession to the Blacks is the ultimate insult he throws at the Black Americans. He has absolutely no moral authority to open his mouth and spew hatred.
This guy is a living, breathing Confederate Flag!

Obama is in a tough spot he is of both the black and white race and when he first started his campaign he was not considered black enough, now because of Pastor Wright he is considered too black and of course we still have people saying he is Muslim. It is getting tiring that the media keeps putting the race out there when Obama is working hard not to make his campaign about race. I am an Obama supporter and feel that he will come out of all this a stronger man.

Remember Michael Jackson? Brittney Spears? The media loved them then once they're sick of them they tore them apart when they wouldn't show them love.
Its kind of funny not too long ago the media built up Barack Obama heck they even nudged him into the race. And like Julius Caeser he initially turned the offer down.
Then they nudged him some more and finally he caved/decided to run. I mean if they really didn't want him to run why'd they nudge him into the race in the first place?
No too long ago he also was substantially touted by the media to be in the lead and all was good.
Not too long ago the media started reporting about his potential ties to Tony Rezko. Sure Hilary Clinton's party members may have put it out there but who spread the fire?
No too long ago Barack Obama's Pastor made some controversial remarks. Who do you think linked them to Obama? Here's the deal the media routinely builds up people then tears them down as they see fit and call it entertainment.

My only disagreement is that the media was never really for Obama. Remember when it was Clinton v Giuliani in November? How it remained like that even when Giuliani was losing and how Obama's victory in Iowa, while a surprise, meant little? How New Hampshire was a bigger test and how the media built Obama way way up there, so much in fact that the media forgot just how far Obama HAD come by not losing that state in a land slide? The media has been against Obama, Paul, Kucinich, Gravel and most of the other candidates from day one. Even the "negative" coverage of Hillary (when they didn't question Obama's patriotism with flag lapel pins and placing hand on heart during National Anthem) was alongside negative coverage of Obama. Then they'd go on to discuss why Hillary would win.

I didn't really finish what I had meant to say. The media in essence is trying to separate Obama from his faith. They used his Pastors racist remarks as a knife and he already denounced those remarks. Some on here seem to be trying to do the same as the media by calling al Christians liars. I've come to realize something America's a twofaced country no really it is. On the onehand in the constitution is there not a clause that calls for a separation of church and state? And yet that very clause was essentially violated with little regard for morality, rhyme/reason, or law. Nevermind the fact that on numerous occasions Obama has rejected the implication of him being Muslim.
The message I read from them is "Nevermind the fact that everyone in this country except those who are completely native american is an immigrant (yes even the english) we don't want an immigrant as president."
And yet we've had some have we not? Technically every single 1 of our initial first few...

The Muslim and Pastor Wright charades are nothing more than a mask for the truth. Its far more politically acceptable to hate Muslims and "anti-Americans" than to admit the basic racism that feeds the distrust or hatred for he whom is half black. And this is what I think Mr Obama is trying to bring to the forefront and try to find a solution for. I hope he gets the opportunity.

Obama is just another Kerry. Flip Flop. First he stands by his minister, mentor, marrier etc. Now he is throwing him under the bus. People are getting tired of this rhetoric. If he is a Christian then he would be sworn in on a Bible.
If he loves his country he would place his hand on his heart when appropriate. Etc etc etc. Too much

Oh sainty, I see several things rong with your comment.
ONE. He DINT throw that paster under the bus. In fact, thats WHY Conservatives have been lambastin him! Conservatives have been lambastin him for NOT rejectin him.
(Although - just between you and me - I realize you are doin that angry Conservative thing and if he HAD thrown him under the bus, we woulda screamed bloody murder bout that too! Cause, you know, we exist to divide our nation.)
TWO. Man Alive! Even I, a C student from The College of Creationism knows that you are talkin bout a completely different person. The man who was not sworn in on the Bible was Keith Ellison - a practicin Muslim.
If you loved this country of ours, you would at least try to get your facts straight. GOODNESS!
Either you are completely stoopid - or you are partakin in the time honored Conservative Smear Blast.
Smear Blast example:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, my opponent is a PRACTICING HOMO-SAPIENS!!"
It only works on the ignorant.

He was sworn sworn in on a bible... he still stands by his minister, he just disagreed with him. If he rejected his minister, he'd have done the politically expedient thing and stopped associating with him in any way. He was unaware that it was considered correct to place his hand on his heart at that time, the networks got what was occurring at that time incorrect. It wasn't the Pledge and they recanted that position, I believe. Obama hasn't flip flopped as much as Hillary "I Dodged Sniper Fire" Clinton.

I'm not voting against him just because he was too stupid to know what his preacher was saying on Sunday for the last 20 years. Not because he refers to white's as "you people".
Not because he threw his grandma under the bus. Not because he won't respect the flag by refusing to put his hand on his heart, or wear a flag pin. Not because his wife, by her comments obviously believes in the reverends words. and certainly not because he is black. I'm not voting for him because he is a socialist. He has a very bad voting record in the senate where on many occasions he did not even vote. He also voted no to a bill that would have prevented babies from being killed AFTER BIRTH due to a deformity. That is murder.
I am not voting against him because he is black, however I am sure that all the black folks that vote for him are doing so because he is black. Remember the "not black enough" comments? Now I guess he somehow got darker.
So who is the racist now?

As far as I know, there's no place on a ballot to vote against a candidate. Knowing what you don't want in life only gets you part of the way to getting what you want. Maybe that's why you're going to end up with a candidate like McCain.

So what if Obama is a Muslim? Is that a crime? Should his faith be questioned because he is black? This fear that Obama might be a Muslim is pure 'IGNORANCE' and 'cold hearted PREJUDICE'.
The white majority is racist towards blacks and other minorities. Why don't we question the 72 year old John McCain who still lives in the 60's as a POW. This white dude is so angry and ready to invade the entire Middle East to prove his pointless views. McCain is just another George Bush!

If 90% of the Muslims are for him that doesn't make him a muslim, its obvious why 90% of the blacks are for him. But what does this do to his silly notion about bringing the country together in harmony, it kind of tears that notion apart, doesn't it?

Yes, 'automan909', racism started by people like you who still dream about slavery and segragation. It is black vs white because YOU made it an issue by questioning Obama's background and heritage.
Racism is 'LIVE AND WELL IN AMERICA', thanks to those who make comments like 'automan909' or should I say,'whiteautoman909'!

"we are the freest of all countries"
Either you've never been anywhere else in the last 20 years or you're blind.
US freedom USED to be a benchmark for the world - except in a significant part of the country if you were a colour other than white. And you're darn right that MANY people came to the US because it was a place where people could be free.
NOT ANY MORE!
Democracy and the US parted company with the illegitimate election of 2000.
Freedom died on 11th September 2001.
Human respect died with the flooding of New Orleans.
International respect for the US with the invasion of Iraq.
The patient will hopefully recover after a few generations in intensive care.

It is sad that race has always played such a large role in human relations. It is disappointing that it continues to be such a problem. Sen. Obama may be a half-black, half-white man, but that is not the reason to vote for him.
Vote for him because he respects the dignity of all people.
Vote for him because he works for social justice.
Vote for him because he embodies transparency in gov't.
Vote for him because he was wise enough to recognize the wrongness of the war in Iraq BEFORE we invaded.
Vote for him because he won't reject Rev. Wright for speaking God's truth to the powerful. (We should all be so faithful.)
Vote for him because he is smart and compassionate.
Vote for him because he listens to all sides of issues before making decisions, but is beholden to no corporations.
Vote for Sen. Obama because he is the best hope for America's future.

None of the things you cite are really true except rejecting Rev Wright and yesterday he hinted he was going to leave the church if the Rev hadn't of retired. Of course, he did have him on his campaign staff. This guy is fluff with no substance other than his political philosophy based on Marx and Lenin. How many times do those ideas have to proven failures before you understand?

Gotta love aniokly- the crap that comes out of his keyboard is the stuff legends are made of.
I'm getting tired of people saying "he hasn't been vetted" or "he's not strong enough" or "his wife's not patriotic enough".
Just swing by media matters, click on Barack Obama, and look at the list of smear, distortions and racist rants (lynching party, anyone?) and look at how many are released per day. PER DAY!
Of course, Clinton's been getting it for years. But no one is saying she's not ready. Well...after the video was released, there's some serious questions right there.

I'm tired of hearing that Obama isn't ready along with all the smear tactics and distortions. Who is ever really ready! You don't take classes for the job. Why is everyone clinging to the hype about Rev Wright anyway. He is just another preacher using the pulpit to vent his views. I have been to many a church and didn't always agree with what I heard. All I know is that my state has lost over 250,000 jobs since NAFTA, the economy sucks right now, and all people can talk about is barack's pastor, he's not strong enough and slights about his wife's so-called lack of patriotism. No one is talking about the fact that Hillary just got caught lying. Let's just stick to the issues please. Gas prices are through the roof and it's killing me so I want to hear about what's going to be done about that. It's time for a change and if he has good plans to take this country to a better place than I'm all for him. I just want some results and I'm tired of the same old politics.

You need to read these polls carefully. Most are pure spin
Example
"Has Barack Obama been hurt by his association (Wright), now revealed to most American voters"
True.
Note: "American voters" not Democrats, Republican or likely voters (and how many other classifications you can name)
Pew Poll (Wright) "no negative effect on Obama's campaign"
True
Note: "Obama's campaign", His campaign is to win the Dem Nomination for President. We can exclude in this poll Repubs, "American voters", Dems who have already voted in their primaries, FL, MI.
Also note polls change daily.

Sen. Obama's church is only anti-American to the extent that when America does not live up to God's demand for justice and righteousness, Rev. Wright says so. It's a shame that our society is so selfish and brutal that we don't care for the poor and the outcast. It's a double shame when our Christian preachers point it out to us and our response is to call them anti-American.
No one is a stronger pro-American than the American who calls on all of us to stand behind what America stands for.
