Dith Pran was an heroic human spirit. We were all enriched by his presence.

The movie "the Killing Fields" was very moving for me. I couldn't believe what happened in that country.

You are probably too young to remember what actually happened, but you could have watched the movie at least. It was the US that destabilized officially neutral Cambodia to the point that Khmer Rouge could gain a foothold to destroy the country.

        .

        'March 17, 1969

Nixon orders secret bombings of Cambodia to destroy North Vietnamese supply routes and base camps, commencing with "Operation Breakfast."'

        "May 1969

Nixon orders FBI wiretaps to track the sources of leaks revealing secret bombings of Cambodia."

        "April 30, 1970

Nixon announces the launching of military attacks on enemy sanctuaries in Cambodia."

I never saw the movie but I read a biographical book called "To Destroy You is No Loss" about a young girl who lived through it. Anyone who escaped that H*ll hole during that time was amazing!"

In my opinion that book should be required reading in schools today.

But we are screaming at the top of our voices. Haven't you heard all the anti-war folks? We are against murderous rampages of all sorts.

It is one thing to read about or hear of 2 million deaths. It is quite another to see the depiction of it. The movie of Dith Pran (The Killing Fields) was a moving and emotionally wrenching experience. For him to survive that horror and speak out against it makes him a true American hero.

Ironically the actor who portrayed him in the movie, Haing Ngor (who was a Cambodian doctor) was also robbed close to his apartment; but he was killed during the robbery.

Who the HELL cares. The Abu Ghraib and Gitmo demonstrates that USA is no better than Khemer Rogue.
