Thanks for the update. I don't know if this is the proper time or place for suggestions, but I'd like to propose some:

      1) Priority number 1 should go toward performance. The site can become sluggish and posts sometimes vanish after clicking the 'Submit' button.

      2) Hyperlinking would be a welcome addition. The site oftentimes truncates web addresses, which is a problem for those who cite them as evidence in discussion.

      3) 'Response Indentations' sometimes make the text unreadable after too many responses have been posted. This promises to pose even greater problems in the future if Propeller's member base (and therefore the number of posts) continues growing. Perhaps instead of indenting a post that is in response to another, you could instead cause the background color of the response post to alternate?

        4) It's become less of a problem recently, but is it possible for spam submissions to voted to the front when a single user/spammer registers multiple Propeller member accounts? Is there a way to limit multiple accounts designed for the sole purpose of pushing stories to the homepage to ensure each member is a unique user? Maybe there should be a limit of 1 member account = 1 IP address and 1 verifiable email address.

        http://www.sampletheweb.com/2006/08/09/people-t...

"For example, if a single individual registering multiple Netscape member accounts...is clearly involved in a coordinated effort to push the stories to the Netscape Homepage, this individual would clearly be trying to game the system and spamming Netscape with their stories."

        5) 'Share This Story' invitations are limited to only 5, which on second thought may be a necessary inconvenience as it's an anti-spam countermeasure.

          Great feedback here.

          1. Absolutely. We have multiple people working on this fulltime.

          2. Hyperlinking of URLs in comments? That is available... what am I missing?

          3. Yes, yes, yes, definitely. Unfortunately that was one of the things we thought we'd fix in the new version, so it might take a bit of time yet.

          4. We already only allow one account per verifiable e-mail address. Its tough to limit to one account per IP because a fair amount of traffic comes through proxy servers, even legitimate traffic. That being said, we are not doing enough to combat spam and we will work harder.

          5. Yes, limiting to 5 is an anti-spam countermeasure.

          Thanks again, great feedback.

            TDRAPEAU:

"2. Hyperlinking of URLs in comments? That is available... what am I missing?"

On some sites it's possible to hyperlink by posting a single word that serves as a clickable link (the text usually becomes blue and underlined) instead of displaying the entire web address. This would:

            A) remove clutter from the post

            B) prevent the hyperlink from eating up too much of the 1000-character limit, as some web addresses can be quite long

            C) preserve the integrity of the web address. Notice how in my previous post, the web address was so long that it became truncated.

            TDRAPEAU:

"Its tough to limit to one account per IP because a fair amount of traffic comes through proxy servers, even legitimate traffic."

Hmm...I'm not nearly as well-versed in managing a website as you are. But perhaps there are other solutions to prevent a single user from registering multiple member accounts because there's been some talk on other sites of trying to game the system at Propeller.

On hyperlinking, yes, I understand you now. It is something I will consider.

On gaming, definitely, we have to be diligent and keep working hard against spam, regardless of any limitations of the tools available.

Thanks again for taking the time.
