April 7, 2008, 9:05 p.m.They're both right about the Bose, they suck the air...but they do fill my head with reveries. Just pump up the volume. All noisy annoyances disappear, as I possibly become one myself. Crying babies, loud talkers etc., all negated. The only problem I have is the stews now have to thump me on the head, to let me know we're about to land.
PS. Does anyone else enjoy the preflight safety 'mime show' as much as I do?

April 8, 2008, 3:33 a.m.I wouldn't worry about cell phones on US carriers anytime soon. They're too busy rolling in the loot from the skyphones right now, while crying about how expensive everything else is.
I doubt the cell carriers would like people flying around tower to tower without serious charges, either.
You have to look at the mobile phone rules in europe, which are consumer oriented, such as unlocked phones ONLY, pay by use SIM cards, and even anonymously purchased SIM cards for phones, all in a highly competitive market.
Soon the concept of "roaming charges" will even be abolished for mobile phone users.
No, there's just too much money at stake to let people bring and use their own phones on planes in the US.
How many years have they been feeding US travelers the complete BS that they might interfere with plane? Now it's all just another exposed lie.

April 8, 2008, 5:09 a.m.There's NOTHING that makes me as crazy as sitting next to someone who repeats the same banal story over and over again to umpteen different people. [Even if it was the juiciest story in the world on first over-hearing, it becomes infinitely banal by the third repetition.] I've come VERY close to grabbing a phone and throwing it out of the window on a couple of occasions.
Someone should market a device which sucks the life swiftly out of all batteries within a certain radius - it could also be used against those people who are forever taking pictures all around you at scenic sites or special events and doing their utmost to ruin them for you.
