Why do you say he is brilliant? He has failed three times in Iraq so far. In his first mission (Mosul) the entire local police went over to the freedom fighters and took all the weapons Petraeus gave them with them. In his second mission in 2005 he claimed to have already trained so many Iraqi soldiers that they could already takeover from US troops. Thistime around theonly "success" hehas achieved is to pay the freedom fighters not to attack US troops.
Sorry engineer, but your statement seems to be more in keeping with excusing crimes, corruption and incompetence if the perpetrator is jewish. That has led to far too much treason by israel-firsters in america.
Frankly, americans (and especially american jews) need to tell second generation zioncons from europe that they still have a LOT to learn about american democracy and should butt out of our foreign and military policy.

I suppose you would call Henry Kissinger and his crimes against humanity "brilliant" as well- just because he is a zioncon.
Henry Kissinger: War Criminal or Old-Fashioned Murderer?
Incredibly, Henry Kissingerâ;;the man who rivals Pol Pot for the dubious honor of being the person responsible for the death of the largest number of innocent people in South East Asia (and far surpasses Pol Pot in criminality when one factors in Kissinger's various levels of responsibility for wholesale slaughter and repression in other parts of the world)â;;still wields significant power in the United States; but his role as eager facilitator of mass murder, totalitarian repression and other atrocities is never discussed in polite society....

Frankly you seem to like to kill jews, christians and moslems. You excuse all kinds of crimes against humanity when perpetrated by zionists. Israel-first is anti-american treason. I agree with more sane, moral jews.
Welcome to Righteous Jews.org
RighteousJews.org was begun in 2003 as a way to commemorate the memory of those Palestinians who have been, and continue to be depopulated, dispossessed, humiliated, tortured, and murdered in the name of political Zionism and its quest to create a Jewish state in the lands between the Mediterranean and the Jordan River. From its founding in 1897 the Zionist endeavors to "pump in" Jews and "pump out" Palestinians from this land have been the root cause of bloodshed and conflict.

These racist endeavors have also been deeply problematic for those who believe in the basic tenets of Judaism of the prophets, namely justice and a duty to heal the world. RighteousJews.org was created to honor those who consider themselves to be Jewish and who have worked for the human rights of non-Jewish Palestinians.
RighteousJews.org was inspired by the website of the most famous Holocaust museum at Yad Vashem, located on Mt. Herzl on the lands of the Palestinian village of Ein Karem 1,400 meters south of the Palestinian village of Deir Yassin. Yad Vashem lists the names of over 19,000 non-Jews who risked their "lives, freedom, and safety in order to rescue one or several Jews from the threat of death or deportation to death camps without exacting in advance monetary compensation." For many years this list was referred to as the list of "Righteous Gentiles." ...

hyperbola is right about Israel. Truth does not make one a bigot. Refusal to address the truth in regards to criminality, is a form of bias, or bigotry.
Try looking at the situation in the ME from a position of objectivity, and ask yourself how you would react if you were the one who's land was stolen, and lives disrupted by non-indigenous Europeans, Americans, and others, claiming YOUR land is THEIR promised land. As an "engineer", you SHOULD be able to look beyond simple conservative programming.

land was stolen?
whose land was it?
in the 1880's Ottoman census, there were already 24,000 plus Jews living there
this is before Zionism and the mass emigration of later years
Did those Jews steal the land?
If so, when did they steal it?
---
and what is this thread about? Jews?
everything seems to be about Jews and Palestine to some

A lot of what hyperbola writes IS accurate.
So many people have such a blind uncompromising support for Israel. Where did that come from?
Do these supporters know about the U.S.S. Liberty and the murder of 34 crewmen by Israelis? and our govt.'s refusal to do anything about it? Do they know about the spies for Israel that we have imprisoned, or the recent arrest of an Israeli spy (L.A.Times story) who stole nuclear secrets from us?
Tell me GOPPY, where did this blind support for Israel come from? What did they do to EARN it?

Why not? The traditional position of american jews opposes everything that the second generation racist zionists from eastern europe support.
The American Council for Judaism
Zionism at 100: Remembering Its Often Prophetic Jewish Critics
.. With regard to the future of Palestine, the petitioners state: "It is our fervent hope that what was once a 'promised land' for Jews may become 'a land of promise' for all races and creeds . . . We ask that Palestine be constituted as a free and independent state to be governed under a democratic form of government recognizing no distinctions of creed or race or ethnic descent, and with adequate power to protect the country against oppression of any kind. We do not wish to see Palestine, either now or at any time in the future, organized as a Jewish state." ...

The only thing one cancount on with the bushie regime is that incompetent ass-lickers rise to the top.
Petraeus Hid Maliki Resistance to US Troops in Basra
Politics â;; Petraeus lied to Congress about recent fighting in Basra. al Maliki attacked Basra to keep US and British troops from resuming large scale war in southern Iraq. al Maliki also wanted to emphasize that the Iraqi government wants agreement between the US and Iran and is opposed to the US using Iraq to attack Iran.

An exit strategy in Afghanistan
Politics â;; Nato has evidently got itself into a colossal muddle in Afghanistan. Everything that could possibly go wrong has gone wrong. It is far from clear why the alliance is fighting there at all, and what it is seeking to achieve. Talk of "victory" is a dangerous illusion.
http://politics.propeller.com/story/2008/04/12/...
Iraq Testimony from a Different General
Politics â;; The surge is prolonging instability, not creating the conditions for unity as the president claims, his testimony began. The decline in violence reflects a dispersion of power to dozens of local strong men who distrust the government and fight among themselves. The basic military situation is far worse.

A good general is one who can find a solution to a given problem that requires the minimal expenditure of "balls".
Considering the impossible problem that Bush has concocted for Petrus to solve, he is doing quite well.
However, why Petreus would want to do try to solve the impossible problems that Bush has concocted, might require several psychologists' life-times to explore

Admiral Fallon had Petraeus pegged exactly right when he called him an ass-licker. His appointment probably has to do with the attack on iran planned by the israel-first traitors in the bushie regime. Nothing like having a Zioncon general running us ever deeper into the iraqi quagmire.
My militia is more untouchable than yours
Do No Evil â;; In real life, Iraq, with no less than 28 militias is burning - again, all over, even in "invisible" (for Western media) places. Couple that with relentless Bush administration narratives of "blame, blame Iran" and "surge" propaganda and American public opinion is strangled by a formidable disinformation octopus.

This appointment is as much political as military (hence the requirement for Senate ratification).
A discussion by concerned citizens is entirely appropriate, given the REQUIREMENT for NON-MILITARY (i.e. Senate) approval of the appointment.

disscussion is one thing..comments like..
"This guy is a scum and a Bush mouth piece in uniform." and
"Generals like Betrayus have no balls. They don't go and die. They send others to die for them."
Do not fit the mold of discussion in my opinion.

Petraeus is just another example of the power of propaganda to bring incompetent, ass-lickers to the top of the bushie regime.
Pentagon Pimps & Propaganda Operation
Do No Evil â;; The NYT report exposes the Pentagon's propaganda machine, its control over access and information, and its selling of the "war on terror" --beginning with the buildup to the Iraq war. As someone posting here put it, Goebbels would be proud.

Pentagon Propaganda & Antiwar Analysts
Politics â;; Most news organizations didn't know or care their analysts were directed by the administration while claiming neutrality; taking expensive trips paid by the administration; meeting secretly with senior administration officials and plotting military or political strategy; or competing for military contracts. Our media is now Pravda in America.

What worries me is where did Petreaus get his chest full of medals?
General Sir Mike Jackson until recently the senior officer in the British Army has at most half a dozen
After WW2, Korea then Vietnam what else? No doubt someone will tell me.

Petreaus graduated from West Point in 1974. Those ribbons you see on his chest are not all "medals" they are campagain ribbons, commendations, and military service and merit awards. in 34 years of military service you are going to collect some salad on your chest no matter where or what you have done.

General Petraeus has proven his intellectual and combat ability. He is a proven leader in combat at Division and Army level and will be a superb CINC. He's no Wesley Clark or George Casey they were not combat generals but political generals..neither achieved success. With Lieutenant General Raymond T. Odierno in charge of ARCENT the terrorist and Islamist are in for a hard fight. This is the team that has been needed for the past three years. The remarks from the left are those that can be expected from the defeatocrats and general leftist intellectuals who want to see the United States defeated in this war. Their simple minds can not connect the terror dots that to many us who have studied this region for 30 or more see so clearly. General Petraeus good luck on your new mission.

Rubbish. Petraeus has failed in every "combat" command he has ever held - three failures in Iraq already. Before that he never held a combat command.
As for Odierno, so long as he was out of the spotlight, he was somewhat honest in describing the iraqi debacle and his own failures. Now he will probably just parrot bushie/pentagon propaganda.
General Discusses Goals of His Return to Iraq
... Lt. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, who returns to Iraq next month to take charge of the day-to-day fight as commander of the Multinational Corps-Iraq, says he departs for Baghdad with a clearer, perhaps even diminished, set of expectations of what the military can be expected to accomplish ...
... "The longer we stay in Iraq, the less of a military fight it becomes," the general said. "We have to understand that."...

... He has felt criticism from some officers, especially among marines, that made it into the public debate via op-ed columns and books by noted military affairs writers, including "Cobra II," by Michael R. Gordon of The New York Times and Bernard E. Trainer; and "Fiasco," by Thomas E. Ricks of The Washington Post....

Actually Odierno is another example of obsolete "thinking" by the bushie incompetents.
You Can't Square an Iraqi Circle
Earnest and well-intentioned ain't going to cut it in Iraq. Someone needs to get that message to the new U.S. ground commander, Lt. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno. You see, Odierno wants to fight Iraq with the Iraqis he wished existed rather than the sectarian groups who acutally exist. If he persists believing in an Iraq that does not really exist he will fail. Just because you want to believe a circle is square does not mean you can square a circle.
While acknowledging in an interview yesterday at Camp Victory that the nature of the war and the tactics required to prevail had changed, his other comments to reporters reflect an alarming naiveté about the sectarian rifts in Iraq....

How do you know Stoutkraut is OKW?
The Wehrmacht was the most successful fighting force in 1940, 2 weeks from the frontier to the Channel coast defeating the French and the British armies. Only when they were instructed to fight on 2 fronts did they eventually fail.

my response as to WHERE he got his medals from (see albionperfides's comment), in a moment of levity. It's clear that the officers that anticipated the potential for problems in Bush's ME policy had long since been dismissed. Gen Pet. has been described as a self-serving man of ambition, by his own superior officers. Of course he will tow the line for his OWN betterment, and not ours.

Petraeus's main qualification is chanting double-speak.
Bush's Iraq War Double-Speak
With the Iraq War now in its sixth bloody year, there are predictable patterns to the new ad campaigns for optimism, with fresh corners turned and more reasons to mock war critics. In this guest essay, Ivan Eland looks at George W. Bush's happy Iraq War double-speak.

My fiancee is very happy with this change. She was part of Fallon's command but didn't like him. He was great when she met him in DC at the Pentagon but in a real combat command situation, she found him wanting as a commander. In the war on terror we need to bring the fight to the bad guys and never let them get their balance, hitting them every chance we can. The general will do very well. That plus this sends a message to Iran, shape up or else.

As the AQ leader Waziri said, "Thank you George Bush for not allowing the withdrawal of your troops, otherwise, I would have no way to kill them." Waziri then invited Bush to the Green Zone for Orange Juice to celebrate Bush's win over the anti-Bush war forces.
Our continued presence in the ME sends the message to iran that the terrorists like OBL were right, America wants to invade and colonize exactly the way OBL said we would.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm not familiar with commendations, merit awards etc transposing themselves into ribbons on an officer's uniform. However, I prefer to see the genuine article viz, Gen Sir Mike Jackson's few medal ribbons.

the true genuine article "medals" represented by the ribbons are only worn on dress uniforms..well at least that is the way it is done in the Marine Corps.
You could go online and find the explanations of all the ribbons if you were interested.

I would venture to guess that he knows things that could topple our current government. He said "you back me completely or you go down with me" Not far fetched when you think of the insanity of this "police action". He sat there in front of the tv cameras and said exactly what he was told to say and he was rewarded.
