You know, it's funny to me that those who seem to be offended by this schools actions are the one's who are crying the loudest that no one else's religion be foisted upon them -- often claiming that each has the right to believe as they do -- like you, Bkumm -- and, yes, you're comments have been mild, but you can't convince me that you posted this article to show how great religious freedom is in this country!
I don't agree with this school's policies. I would not attend it nor work there, BUT (and I think this is HUGE), those who attend that school KNOW what they are signing up for. This guy signed a contract specifying that his personal life was on the table.
Just because we think it's intrusive, oppressive or even downright whacky, doesn't mean that they can't VOLUNTARILY sign on for such a lifestyle.
To have the gov't step in and say this is illegal discrimination, is a violation of their religious freedom, as well as right to assembly.

I do believe in freedom of religion and from religion.
I posted this story in a context, hence the title. There is a movie out there now called "Expelled" which speaks to a oft repeated lie that professors are being fired from their jobs because they speak out about either ID or creation. They use it in their classrooms and then are fired for it, so the movie asserts.
I posted this, because it shows the rampant hypocrisy of the movie. To whit, if it is not acceptable to fire someone for failing to teach within the guidelines of the subject they were hired to teach how can it possibly be acceptable to fire someone for failing to disclose that they do not accept the guidelines for their private lives that the school has set.
As to whether or not he broke his contract:
"The school has employed divorced professors in the past, but faculty members must explain the reason for their divorce to determine if it's allowable according to New Testament tenets."

It seems reasonable to me. Everyone knew the rules and agreed to them. If he didn't like the rules he shouldn't be playing their game. I imagine their are a lot of excellent, qualified, top-notch professors who won't work at Wheaton for this reason.
