"Any" president didn't send troops to Afghanistan to 'defeat' terrorism.
We cannot have it both ways. We 'support' the growing of poppies to be sold as opium, which is illegal in our country, and by the way does fund al Qaeda and the Taliban.
The Afghan farmers can be taught / educated / helped to grow DIFFERENT crops. Poppies are not the ONLY thing they can grow.

Apparently it was more important to invade and occupy Iraq than it was for us to actually defeat the enemy in Afghanistan once they made it to their safe haven in Talibanistan.

Right on, Bubba!
When corn, rice, wheat and other food crops cost more than heroin, (which won't be long) those Afghan farmers will convert in a jiffy!

Not bad, Teech, I was just about to ask what anyone thought the farmers could raise in their environment that comes close to the value of their opium crop? Maybe Belgian endive, as our beloved vp Quayle suggested to the tobacco farmers?

If I wanted to win the hearts and minds of a nation I think I would send armed men there to shoot up the place, disrupt its society and economy, and do a little random killing. That should work. Then I would try to set up a powerful central government in a place where tribal loyalties are the only important ones. Yep, got that one all worked out.
