I've noticed a couple, James!
In this case though I must point out that iron wasn't a commonly used metal by the old-timers of European alchemy..
Lead, cinnabar, mercury, antimony were some of the more usual ones - all of them extremely toxic..
Between the fumes and the wayward explosions - gunpowder was a product of Chinese alchemy [which concerned itself far more with health and longevity than with gold] the alchemist's life was not always an easy one nor often a long one.
Interestingly lead, which was probably overall the MOST popular, is adjacent to gold on the periodic table - something of which there was no knowledge at the time.
Curious..
And the more closely you examine it the curiouser it gets.
The best information about alchemy on the web - by far - is at www.levity.com/alchemy
Dan Levy is a scholar and a gentleman who lives in NYC and has sponsored this site for over 15 years.
Adam McLean, whose site this is, has a heroic commitment to alchemy.

I keep forgetting that I shouldn't submit my comments in invisible ink..Thank you to all of those positive votes (over 6,000 in the past 6 months). If we get James some eyeglasses do you think he'll recognize a guy with an 8-1 plus-minus ratio instead of patronizing so many net negative posters here?

You do a great job. I have just been having a long week and spent a lot of time here. I got great feedback, so I was looking for some rare closure..Oh well...
Quite honestly, I have been reading your week in review since it began in November and have never seen my comments.

I don't want to interfere with your artistic creativity, it's just a little frustrating to see a few mean-spirited agitators here quoted more than once. They are just looking for attention,. and this would give it to them and encourage more nonsense that they often spew.
You know who they are...
They don't always say bad things, just usually, and the rare
additions that they may make here are not encouraging them to lighten up..So to me it seems patronizing and unworthy.

All I'm really looking for are multiple points of view, expressed in a reasonably articulate (and sometimes amusing) way. I'm not really keeping the member's history in mind when I select a comment. And if you look through past WIRs, you'll see the names of people who were subsequently banned for rotten behavior, as well as those of our most civilized participants. But like I said earlier, I thought I had quoted you in a previous WIR, and will be happy to correct that oversight.

Please use whatever method keeps you comfortable.
We can't turn this into a popularity contest or a boastfest.
You do what you do very well. I was just using a little levity to make a point about the loudmouths who do get recognized.
(I can live with being a loudmouth who doesn't) but I know that my points are far more representative of the general consensus here than the few others who are clearly nothing but a shouting minority.

"We can't turn this into a popularity contest or a boastfest."
I don't see why not.
In fact, I think it would be GREAT to make this a popularity contest, for I, ind06, am quite popular, in case you hadn't noticed.
Not that I'm boasting.
or festing...
Wouldn't you agree, JamesMarcus?
Wouldn't you agree I'm the most popular Propeller member in the land?
Don't bother to answer! I know you agree! And I know everyone else agrees as well!
And THAT is what makes me so popular.
Thank you, thank you all for your love and adoration! I deserve it!
I'll sweep from the room now with your applause ringing in my ears!
