If I hat a hit list for CNN. This would be my list and the order of said list.
Lou Dobbs
Wolf Blitzer
Larry King
The editors
The management.
There is hope for some of the others. I used to like CNN..... now it is the new National Enquirer. It is sad to say, the public is the catalyst for the changes I and others have witnessed. The public craves this type of reporting.
Lou Dobbs has become the "expert" on every subject. If you disagree with him,(as Obama did) he sets out on a personal vendetta. If I had to define whining in two words... it would be LOU DOBBS.The management and editors.... they are out to sell air time not substance
Wolf ... is politically challenged.... and unable to carry out an interview in most cases. Once in a while he succeeds.
Larry King... Once was a great interviewer.... now seeks sensationalism and dirt, instead of substance.
Me....I still watch it through my own personal filters...LOL

Probably because people like that are too smart to want the job. When Alberta's previous Premier stepped down, he said something like this: Anybody who wants my job probably isn't competent to do it, and anybody who is competent to do it probably isn't foolish enough to want it.

Me, too. The only bright spot left on that miserable sell out, CNN! I've never been so disappointed with that bunch.
I used to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I can't do that any more. I still watch it, too, in the same manner you describe...unfortunately,it stills seems to be the lesser of the evils to me.

I stopped watching CNN's pre-election coverage several months ago when I couldn't find out what any of the GOP candidates were up to but meanwhile they'd have nightly roundtable discussions about Hillary flashing her cleavage ("What message is she trying to send to voters by wearing more low cut blouses? Why did she wear a pink pantsuit? What does it mean? Is she trying to take the focus off of Obama's flag pin? What?!") or "cackling" ("What's so funny? How many times did she laugh during that debate? Why didn't she laugh at Obama's joke? I wonder if she's still angry that he giggled during the Pledge of Allegiance?") or "misting up" ('gasp--she showed her "softer" side...whooo-ooohh...Why did she wrinkle her nose when Charlie Gibson asked her a question about Obama's middle name? Does it mean she secretly hate Muslims?') at a campaign stop.

They understand how news reporting has successfully morphed into headline creating programs like O'reilly and hannity.
Those guys will never get cancelled, but Scarborough and a few others who still seem slanted but not caustic will be the first to drop due to ratings..These guys need ratings..They get paid for viewership and they need to be bold. This is no longer reporting, it is now newsmaking, breaking stories and
stealing viewers from the competition..

I learned years ago to stop listening to that trash. If you don't view it and only the small minority do. They will fade away. Sponsors will not sponsor money losing programs for very long.
That is the problem with everyone listening to these peoples crap. Those who sponsor them know they get heard and their products are being heard about.
Want to get rid of them stop listening and talking about them.
Bury them with non attention and listen to those who promote what you believe in.

It was by communicating to CNN and cutting back from tuning into the channel that we got rid of Ralph Reed, when he was brought on to the station.
There is a difference between confronting an issue and ignoring it. If CNN knows why their viewers are dropping off, then we can effect positive change.

I let the advertisers know. I get in touch with them and say I'm not watchinng this because of this. I've had some responses wanting to know what I do watch and why.
I'm not saying to ignore the stupidity of the people. Just ignore the products that sponsor them. Let the sponsors know.

I watch The Situation Room every day. Also watch C-Span. I have seen some good and bad on both. But they are certainly better than the CNN core news.
I have crtainly had enough of CNN. I remember just a few days ago when one of the "Pretty Young Things" made the remark about an Obama statement "Who Cares what Obama has to say anyway?"
Now how's that for fair and balanced news reporting?
CNN is so biased it's almost immoral. And they call themselves Fair and Balanced.

I remember the outpouring of criticism CNN received when they brought on Ralph Reed; that ended quickly because of all the complaints and threats that viewers sent to CNN.
Although I only browse CNN randomly to get a glimpse at what they are doing, it didn't take me long to discover this kind of activity by Wolf. I would like to see Blitzer follow Ralph Reed out the door.
How about you?

CNN killed what would have been Howard Dean's nomination. I went in to work the next day after they created and broadcast the famous Dean Scream, and sure enough, the politically ignorant people at my work were all *concerned* about that.
CNN made that because Howard Dean declared he would take on the Media if elected. CNN can't have that.
Heckuva job, CNN, and I'll never forgive you for that, for manipulating the dummies, for dumbing it all down, for helping to stick us with 4 more years of Bushtard.
Anytime I check in on CNN's home page, it's about 50% fluff, 30% Bush admin propaganda, and *maybe* 20% of actual real objective, reality based reporting.
The sum of CNN is crap, despite it's few shining spots. You know that little white speck on top of bird sh*t? That's bird sh*t too.

Fortunately there were enough people promising not to watch CNN at all when Ralph Reed was added to their roster; consequently he was removed quickly. I don't even think he lasted 2 weeks!
The only way to get these creeps is by beating down their ratings. That is exactly why I wrote this story.

The other day I was watching Morning Joe on MSNBC. Joe and his co-host were lamenting how Hillary could change her position on issues so often. The co-host made some snide remark.
It might as well have been followed by, "I'm John McCain and I approved of this ad."
And it's like that every single morning.

The problem is that Hamas did make that statement. This sounds like Obama was allowed to say what he wanted to. Any time a politician says anything to anybody during an election they need to know anything they say may be made into a sound bite. Therefor they have to be very careful for the whole campaign. Obama messed up with his "bitter" comment he thought was private and lost PA giving extended life to Clinton's campaign.
Fox's ratings have made CNN go more toward the middle and push both sides. That makes them seem anti Democrat to the Democrats and anti Republican to the Republicans. Good journaism should do that. Right now the story is Obama vs Clinton. Wait until it is McCain vs Obama. Then both sides will be angry if they go down the middle.
Don't cry too hard. The MSM is still mostly liberal.

And isn't it amazing how such an innocuous comment by Obama made can be twisted into something that was neither said nor implied, and given such magnitude that sways the votes in a critical primary, while Shrillary and McSame can make truly SIGNIFICANT statements such as "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran!" or "Anyone who attacks one of our allies in the middle east can be obliterated," (not an exact quote but words to that effect) and only receive "honorable mention in the news!"

So did AQ throughout the last several years.
Bush is a simpleton who completely fell into their trap, whole heartedly, and he is fighting to make sure AQ has every opportunity to kill more GIs and contractors. AQ doesn`t like the Dems cause the Dems want a timed withdrawal. AQ said so, but the cons gave and give that a pass while pretending shock at something Hamas said.

The reverse logic of representing Obama or any candidate with what a terrorist organization believes is a loathsome smear similar to what McCarthy did during the 50's; guilt by the hearsay of others.
Hitler endorsed the Catholic and Protestant Church during the 3rd Reich; does that say something about the church or Hitler?
If anyone believes ths media is "still mostly liberal", then they must have an obstucted view from being so far down the line on the right wing that they can't see past Joe McCarthy.

Just the other day I heard a local sports radio host, Gerry Callahan, on WEEI in Boston say that Obama wants to help Hamas. Mind you these insane and inappropriate electioneering comments were sent out over the airwaves to millions of people. It has an effect. Although off topic, what do folks thing of the big Bush wedding this weekend?
Mother's Day roses are 50 bucks a dozen, gas is almost 4 bucks a gallon, people are losing their homes and we have to see the Bushes living it up, insulated from our daily struggles, like American royalty.
I mean to me it's like Marie Antoinette saying, 'let them eat cake.'

So true, and it's disgusting! But you know, they aren't even going whole hog because they KNOW how pis sed the American public is over the butchering of our economy by the Bush assassination (seems more like that than administration).
They are trying to downplay it somewhat, but the public is not fooled! Even their "low key" wedding is no doubt costing more than most of the middle class makes in yearly salary.

Started after the 60's. Walter Cronkite made a speech that blasted the Viet Nam war. That started the big three to slant the news towards the liberals. They have been getting worse all the time. Their news rating plummet as a result. Talk radio filled the gap and then Fox came along. Their news ratings have caused CNN to put on more conservatives to balance their network. Their ratings have improved as a result. If you have biased people at least you should have them on both sides.
I agree that even people of your ilk should also be allowed to speak.

Media in the Us no longer has anything to do with information or analysis. It is about keeping media from exposing corporate and government corruption.
Why Big Media Needs Propaganda to Survive
The mainstream media are as likely to report on Pentagon propaganda â;; and thus, themselves â;; as President Bush is likely to cede that "mission accomplished" was poor phrasing. That is, it ain't ever gonna happen.
... If you haven't heard already, just six corporations control most of what we read, watch and listen to every day. These corporate giants are motivated entirely by profit, not public service. So as Big Media get bigger, gobbling up more newspapers, radio stations and TV networks through consolidation, our media system actually gets smaller. Corporate execs have gutted newsrooms, shuttered foreign bureaus and slashed spending on investigative reporting...

To consolidate their control, Big Media owners like Rupert Murdoch have cozied up to Washington, deploying legions of lobbyists and lawyers to craft U.S. communications policy, while doling out millions of dollars in campaign contributions to squelch any challenge from elected officials....
..Weak and lightheaded, the junk news we now call journalism is now entirely incapable of fulfilling its mission to hold government and corporate actors accountable, to report in the public's interest, and to critique itself for wrongdoing...
... Yes, we need to hold the government accountable for the crime of propaganda. But we also need to roll back consolidation so that new voices can counter the propaganda that has seeped into the newsrooms of the mainstream press...

As for Wolf Blitzer, he represents one of the types of corruption that Americans are never to be told about by the corporate media. What is a member of an israel-first organization (AIPAC) who is of dubious primary loyalty to America doing as a major news presenter in the US?
Wolf Blitzer is a Zionist

THE DANGER OF MEDIA COMPLICITY IN ZIONISM'S SUPPRESSION OF THE TRUTH OF HISTORY
As a former ITN and BBC Panorama correspondent, I am often asked how I explain the Western mainstream media's preference for Zionist mythology as opposed to the truth of history (as it relates to the making and sustaining of what used to be called the Arab-Israeli conflict). I address this question, quite explicitly, in the Prologue to Volume Two, recently published, of my book Zionism: The Real Enemy of the Jews....

vidman rarely reads the article and comments on the substance of the story.
From the story:
This kind of bias coverage that uses the comments and clips from one interview as the fodder for more uncontested attacks by selected opponents is a disgrace to the integrity of objective reporting. CNN looks more and more like a pack of jackals picking at the bones of the victims that they create. It is an insult to the American people, who are currently struggling desperately to put food on the table, to put gas in their cars, to keep their mortgages paid, and to keep their sons and daughters safe from the corporate war in Iraq.
Lets argue the facts vidman, most of us really don't care about the "S" in your avatar.

Here is a commentary on how degraded our media have become and an interesting suggestion for improvement.
America's newshounds have turned into a pack of poodles
This year's Arab Broadcast Forum in Abu Dhabi is bringing together electronic and print journalists from across the Arab region for a series of discussions in the round, covering a range of topics of critical concern. The sessions are exploring threats to press freedom, evaluating the coverage of major crises, and self-critically examining their craft. The participants will benefit â;; but so, too, will the wider public, since the proceedings will be aired on the sponsoring networks.
..The Arab media may not be free, in the sense that there is government ownership and, in varying degrees, interference and censorship. But Arab journalists are free thinkers, and quite serious about expanding their freedom to examine critical issues.
Reply-

hyperbola1 year, 8 months ago
This comment is below the standard viewing threshold View It »
All this stands in interesting contrast to the US media that, while cherishing and boasting of its freedom, is increasingly constrained by factors that have resulted in limiting that freedom. The US press is technically free of government influence, but there are a combination of political, cultural and commercial considerations that have made the US media less free and less inquisitive. The controls are not overt, but subtle and at all times pervasive â;; and decisive.
There is, for example, the "corporatisation" of the media, which has resulted both in a dumbing down of content and the push to mimic, rather than compete in the ever-demanding need to increase ratings. There is the incestuous nature of the Washington scene: its revolving door of journalists going into government and vice versa; the self-serving need to protect access, and the shared social circle of too many government and media elites that results in self-imposed restraint.
Reply-

hyperbola1 year, 8 months ago

.. How else could one explain the shameless collaboration of media in President Bush's "rush to war" in Iraq, or the uncritical celebratory treatment of his "mission accomplished" speech. The latter is especially noteworthy, since this past week marked the fifth anniversary of that event.
While the pack has turned, and is now largely critical of that 2003 White House public relations stunt, what passed unremarked was the media's own culpability in promotion of that event. It took some enterprising researchers from the media watchdog Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, to point out what commentators said then and have not acknowledged now.
It is infuriating the very same US journalists who rightly hold politicians accountable for past sins on Iraq and inconsistent statements generally, have yet to engage in self-criticism of their own failings. Holding politicians to a standard you yourself do not adhere to is not the best definition of a free press.
Reply-

A bold idea comes to mind. Let's make a trade. Arab journalists can be brought to the US to cover the White House, Congress and political campaigns. Here they can expand their freedom and perfect their craft. At the same time, the US "pack" journalists could be sent to the Arab world, where they can learn to fight for the freedom they now enjoy but do not exercise.
Or, American journalists can simply tune in to the Arab Broadcast Forum, and see how their colleagues overseas engage in thoughtful self-criticism in an effort to improve their profession and expand their freedom.

From what I have seen, the english version of Al Jazeera has better coverage than the corporate American TV channels. For example, they have commentators and interviews from all over the world - how often hve you seen a Lebanese, a Syrian, a Chinese, a Brazilian, ... commentating or being interviews on American TV? Our news channels are extremely provincial.

The real reason that Wolf and CNN want to define Obama as the enemy of the senior citizen has a lot to do with Florida, a state that has a lot of seniors and can swing the election towards the GOP in Novemeber.
The corporate owned CNN's agenda relies soley on the politics of division; they foster discord, racism, ageism, and distrust to keep their corporate power in tact. How many people fall for it?
That is subversive and an anti-American strategy that should be brought out into the open.
CNN should be held accountable for conduct that his clearly destructive to the best interests of our nation.
And that is up to us!

I agree with the gist of the story, but am surprised that you are surprised that a commercial t.v. channel would be politically biased.
They are all funded by corporate America, so their bias is bound to favor whatever corporate America favors. The corporate world is not monolithic, so there is a range of biases. They run the gamut, from Conservative (like the Democratic Party) to Reactionary (like the Republican Party). Some cable channels, such as CNN and MSNBC, also feature a few extremists like Lou Dobbs (whose obsessive-compulsive disorder involving immigrants shapes the show) and Keith Olbermann (whose unique, shock-jock approach is to tell the truth). But on the whole, the news that is brought to us by Disney, General Electric, and the like is roughly what one would expect of news brought to us by Disney, General Electric, and the like.

(I am not surprised; so you don't have to be surprised. I'm surprised that you are surprised thinking that I am surprised. Now isn't that a surprise?)
It is important to keep a check on it; that's the point. The viewers have the power to change the manner in which news is covered. We have done it before with OJ recently and with Ralph Reed. Time to give Blitzer the boot.

I haven't watched CNN in some time, but the team Blitzer has backing him up at the start of his show, the woman, Candy someone-or-other who provides political commentary and an older gentleman who presents statistics are really excellent.
Blitzer himself, I can take or leave.

I have a great sense of humor. I don't hate libs, I just get sick and tired of reading all the BS posted on these threads day in and day out. You don't want to debate, you're right and anyone else's opinion be damned....and your hatred for anyone not believing in your ideals are on display daily...I'm through with this thread though, all the Kool-Aid drinkers have assembled and it will be useless to make any sense out of any of you...you may have the last word...

They showed a Barack Obama speech today and popped a left panel up stating what looked to be a series of position statement talking points written by the RNC.
Plans to increase your taxes
Clinton YES
Obama YES
McCain No
On and on. CNN is dipping to the level of Fox and may soon surpass them as a Republican propaganda tool.
Thank goodness for MSNBC. Even though they are owned by one of the world's biggest defense contractors, they make an attempt to cut through the bull and the tabloid journalism and tell you what really is going on.

One of the biggest lies repeated ad-nauseum by the right is that the media is liberal. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The media is CORPORATE controlled. That is why the American public is more misinformed than they ever have been. It is a crime what we call journalism in this country.

Those that believe the media is liberal ignore the facts. I could publish the long list of who owns what, but it would not change the minds of those flat-earthers. The belief that the media is liberal is belief... no different than those that believed the earth was flat. The facts do not matter to these people. The good news is that they are a minority. The bad news is that they are maniupulated by the corporatists that have taken over our media and government.

Finally, someone who spoke the truth. Thank you, Wolf.
Jerusalem Post columnist Caroline Glick noted in a column last week, "Obama has taken no steps to moderate his church's anti-Israel invective. Obama's affiliation with Wright aligns with his choice of financial backers and foreign policy advisers. To varying degrees, all of them exhibit hostility towards Israel and support for appeasing jihadists."
The Republicans have done their homework well.

Everyone is biased, and some just let it slip out more than others. I mostly avoid Blitzer, Matthews, O'Reilly, and the like unless they feature an interesting "interview." But some people love the attack dogs--just like on propeller!
I actually like the fact that Lou Dobbs spotlights corrupt government's attacks on private citizens, but he gets as emotional as O'Reilly does! I generally like my news a bit more laid back.
McCain and Obama both scare me, but for different reasons. Whichever one wins, I'll do my best to support what I agree with and I'll fight like heck to stonewall them on the rest.

The MSM is controlled by advertising dollars that are gained or lost by market share.
If Wolf is acting weird then that gains 'viewers' attention which leads to more viewers tuning in to turn onto 'what is wrong with Wolf' which leads to increased market share which equals more advertising dollars in the MSM's fat pockets.
Once the target income for CNN is meet then Wolf will go back to being normal. Whatever that is in his case.
No panic or weirdness here just marketing for profit.

I don't like the media calling a quit to an election, when all fifty states have not spoken. The news media has made the vote of the people just something to laugh at. They are bought too. They don't even realize the injustice they do to the constitution and the vote of the people that was at one time sacred.
