WHY SHOULD WE BE SURPRISED. EVERYTHING ELSE THE ARMY AND THIS ADMINISTRATION HAS TOUCHED HS GONE SOUR. IF ANYONE WATCHED THE HEARINGS ON THE VA IN RE ON SUCIDES AND LISTENED TO BARE FACED LIES BY THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE YOUR STOMACH SHOULD TURN. WHERE ARE ALL THE WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS PEOPLE SCREAMING FOR THE HELP OF THE FEW POOR SOULS WHO ARE THE ONLY ONES FIGHTING THE WAR. WE CAN WORRY ABOUT GAS PRICES AND MORTGAGES BUT IT IS NOTHING COMPARED TO THE COMBAT EXPERIENCE.THE REAL MYSTERY IS HOW ANYONE CAN SUPPORT THIS ADMINMISTRATION

"Last year, Congress passed the National Levee Safety Act, which for the first time directed the corps to inventory all PRIVATE levees. But so far, Congress hasn't provided funding and won't likely do so until 2009 at the earliest."

      Did you read the article???

If these "private" levees fail, do you think members of Congress will:

      1. Rush to the cameras to criticize the Corps of Engineers

      2. Admit that they never provided the funding to even inventory the levees

If you select #1, you are the winner!

"Some of what was found was troubling. For example, corps levees in Missouri and Illinois that are supposed to protect against a 500-year flood fall short of even 100-year protection, said Col. Lewis Setliff III, commander of the corps district in St. Louis. Getting those nine levees up to standard would cost an estimated $200 million."

If these fail will Congress admit they knew about the problem but failed to appropriate $$ for repairs??
