MSNBC is reporting that at least 2 chemical plants in the worst hit area have collapsed and workers are buried in the rubble. Liquid ammonia is leaking out of the plants and they are evacuating people in the area

Broken water pipes were ruptured and some areas are reporting flooding

Say a prayer for these people

It is stories such as this that show how fragile we as people are, whether it is hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards or earhquakes these natuaral disasters seem to be one thing that we can never be truely prepared for and my feelings are always the same regardless of where this happens, I can only feel sorry for those who have lost loved ones.

        My prayers are with them.

Side note: I will actually be going on a 3 week trip to Southern China next spring. It's a shame it is not this year so I could volunteer to help.

Sichuan (Szechuan)Province is home to some of the spicy Chinese foods you eat at Chinese restaurants. But unlike in the America's, no two restaurants prepare them the same in China. What you might know as Kung Pao Chicken is called Gong Bao Ji Ding in China. Sometimes it has cucumbers in it, sometimes it doesn't.

Hope the Chinese government allows any essential assistance from international agencies, governments, NGOs, etc., full access to the affected region.

In disasters like this speed is absolutely essential in providing effective relief to the survivors.

It's always sad to see others suffer. I wish them well.

We always send help if allowed, let's try to keep on topic and not turn this into a New Orleans bash fest Miles, there are times when using tragedy as a platform to bash your favorite hated administration isn't considered in good taste.

The only positive thought that came to my mind, when I heard of this terrible earthquake, was that it will be much easier than in Myanmar to help quickly. The Chinese government speaks openly about the catastrophy this time, and the first concrete reactions, mostly led by the military, seemed to be quite well organized. Perhaps, this is a possibility for the world, to show that nobody is against the Chinese people and solidarity with the victims has nothing to do with the behavior of the government.

I will bet that when most people read this news they had no idea about Sichuan, not where it is and anything about it. Nothing! When you put a place and its people in some context that you can relate to, you can start to develop some connection to and perhaps some empathy for them. Now, some guy can go down to his corner chinese restaurant and know that just possibly that guy in the back making his food comes from that province of the Four Rivers, the one that was so devastated. People can get on here and write stuff such "oh that's terrible, but does nothing". How I am connected to Sichuan, you cannot know. You can judge me - but you don't know me!
