Well maybe the heartland is not really ready yet for a Black President. Many people say that racism is over. It's been over for some time. Look at this video and tell me what you think.

The "heartland" my fanny! These people don't represent the heart of this country. Bunch of damned fools.

"Well maybe the heartland is not really ready yet for a Black President."
Painting with a pretty broad brush aren't you??
Have you already forgotten Iowa??
Only 2.5% of the population is Black and Obama won there
Iowa is more "heartland" than WV

Frankly this video is a good example of american provincialism. Those who speak have been deprived of real information and analysis for so long that they are stuck in obsolete stereotypes that may make them feel "comfortable", but prevent them from even thinking about real problems and are damaging to their own future and that of our country.
I consider that the issue of "racism" in this election is typical of how "leaders" create phony issues to augment their own personal power and profit. Basically this depends on "tribalism" and under the influence of corrupt politicians, the US seems to be as susceptible to this as anywhere else in the world.

I'm in the heartland and most of the blue collar workers, vets, and people I've run into will be voting for Obama.

I think it's just depressing. No one interviewed could give a single valid reason--that is, a reason having to do with an issue that affects them--to vote for any of the candidates. Not even the ones who said they'd vote for Obama.

How much did Obama campaign in WV??
He really didn't make much of an effort and was rewarded for his lack of attention to that state
His campaign wrote them off

It is a depressing state filled with hillbillies.
Their education system is abysmal, and (garbage)what you put in is (garbage) what you get out.
The lord's gonna make their lives better!
Ever see how many roadside crosses there are in W. Va.??
(they have many unburnt ones left over)

It's not just West Virginia. In a related story from the Washington Post.

I was in Memphis in 1968 .... that was the first time I witnessed racism .... I didn't like it one bit and I have hated all my life. I fail to understand the racist mentality. Where does a person get the idea that they are superior to another based on race or color. In some parts of the world society has not evolved that much. I guess I can't judge everyone by a few.... but each of us should not sit quietly by when racism raises its ugly head. I don't care if it is a family member or close friend, let the person know if you think a remark or action is racist. One person at a time...one person at a time is my motto when it comes to fighting racism.

And Clinton's proud of winning with these voters? This video depicts racism against people of color, bigotry towards all Muslims, and astounding ignorance.
I've experienced anti-Semitism and racism in many places and in many situations all around this country, and I have noticed that often it festers worse in specific areas.
Hopefully the next president will not need West Virginia to win the election, despite the fact that there are still a significan number of West Virginians that would support Obama despite the color of his skin and the idiotic rumors about his background.
