    Robert Wexler

"If Rove refuses to testify voluntarily and ignores the subpoenas that will certainly be issued, he should be held in Inherent Contempt of the House of Representatives.

No American is above the law. None of us should be able to ignore Congress without consequence. If Mr. Rove ignores a subpoena from the Judiciary Committee, then the House of Representatives should pass an Inherent Contempt citation and exercise our right to send the House Sergeant-of-Arms to gather Mr. Rove and bring him before Congress to testify."

"Enough is enough. We have a Constitutional obligation to provide accountability to a White House that is trying usurp the constitutional powers of Congress."

Bravo To Robert Wexler. We must demand that Congress stand up to hoodlums and renegades like Rove, Cheney, Meyers, Roberto Gonsalez, and Mukasey. Without a Congress, there is no government of or by the people. And right now we do not have a Congress.

      Federal prosecution

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Siegelman#cite...

      FWIKI

"Alabama's U.S. Attorneys began a criminal investigation of Governor Siegelman in 1999 based on accusations of corruption while in office. In 2004, Siegelman was indicted, and in 2006 was convicted on corruption charges."

So how did Rove get the Alabama's U.S. Attorneys in 1999 to begin an investigation of Siegelman?

Rove had nothing to do with the Federal government in 1999.

"In short, Siegelman as lieutenant governor from 1995 to 1999 and governor from 1999 to 2003 was accused of trading government favors for campaign donations."

So the timeline is like this.

From 1995 to 1999 Siegelman was suspected of being corrupt. In 1999 the US attorney started an investigation.

The investigations lead to indictments and finally conviction in 2006.

Exactly how did Rove cause this guy to be corrupt from 1995 to 1999?

If he's a crook he's a crook don't matter what anyone else says.

Couldn't beat him in an election?

The same could be said of Duke Cunningham. Duke Cunningham is in prison now because he was a crook just like this clown Siegelman.

injest, nice try for you can try to show some consistency but you only say such when you know you have a dem in the gun sights. How about the Cuban immigrant living freely in Miami that blew up an airliner with 76 innocent passengers on it - freedom fighter not terrorist to you right wingers! How about all those Repug pardons from Watergate to Iran Contra to Plamegate?

injest, come to alabama and listen to radio for all the religious stations (they all carry the repug political lies) and the Repug only commercials in this Repug dominated state and you will shut up!

Right now all I see for political commercials on TV are more repugs saying the same BS that has convinced 82% of Americans the country is headed the wrong way!

Yes, repugs running for the jobs that career repugs are quiting, disgusted by the vile tactics they used in their 109th "Do Nothing" Congress.

"Rove had nothing to do with the Federal government in 1999."

if you think Rove didn't have his dirty little fingers involved in govt in 1999 just cause he was "working" in the private sector for enron at the time, you're much more naive than I first suspected.

These are the actions of criminals, they should be investigated and every judge they appoint should be removed because it's clear to me that they set up the courts so that they can continue their criminal activities long after they are out of the white house!

This helps me sleep at night.

Whatever rules, end-runs, or whatever the Bushies have actively created to wipe their arses with the Constitution, the next president can do one of two things:

                1) declare all those actions, hirings, firings, rules, etc unconstitutional and void - as if they never happened

                and/or

                2) pick and choose which ones to co-opt in the pursuit of justice AGAINST the Bushies.

If Rove gets away with framing political adversaries by abuse of power and by manipulating the justice system, they will have the power to undermine any good leader who could become an advocate of the people. This is serious.

Deadly serious indeed. This calculated attack by the Bush administration on our constitution is nothing less than treason. By placing incompetent lackeys in key roles the entire administration has gotten away with crimes against the state, the international community, and indeed humanity.

Will congress show signs of life? It is their duty!

Karl Rove is clever--I'm convinced the only reason Bush is president is because of him. He managed to stay just out of reach when the Swift Boat campaign against John Kerry took off--although the key players associated with it were only one degree of separation from Rove.

He knows how to dance along the edge of the law, and because he has links to the most powerful (and could probably bring them down if they allow him to fall), he survives to do it again and again.

This is an administration where the Vice President claimed not to be part of the Executive Branch of government. They feed on a combination of corporatism and ignorance. At election time, Rove screams "abortion!" "gay rights!" and the religious right all hurry to the polls in a rush of doctrinal frenzy. After the election, it's business as usual.

This is one powerful man who is an absolute genius at manipulating public opinion and simultaneously rewarding the base.

One day though Rove will step out of this life and into another. He will not have his political connections nor will he have the ability to lie his way out.

He will wish that he had done the right things and dealt fairly with all people in his life. He will see the foolishness of what he has done. He will weep and wail and gnash his teeth at pain and misery he has caused and will endure.

That is a terrible thing. It humbles me to think that we don't have to do anything for Rove will have brought it all upon himself.

Rove was evil, even as a child. I read his bio, this man is ruthless beyond words. I have no doubt that Bush will protect him as long as he can, simply out of fear of what will happen if he doesn't.

That said, Bush's time is almost up! Maybe our next admin can do something about this pariah and bring him to justice.

Rove will be less than significant here he is going to end up.

There is a passage in the Bible that states -paraphrased- man will see satan one day and say are you the one nations' trembled over?

In other words all those who thought he was great and powerful will see that he is nothing at all when God takes away his freedom to act.

Therefore if satan who is a powerful demon will be looked upon as less than mighty. What will Rove and all those who are like him be looked upon as.

Fools who thought they were more than they are.

And what of the simple minded who adore him. What does it say of them.

Nah, Rove and those like him will never cause me fear only frustration at their stupidity and God less ways.

"Karl Rove is clever--I'm convinced the only reason Bush is president is because of him. He managed to stay just out of reach when the Swift Boat campaign against John Kerry took off--although the key players associated with it were only one degree of separation from Rove."

Absolutely correct! That has been a tactic well used by this administration, even Bush him self ,

                              Example.

As evidence he cited Mr. Bush's statement in his January 2003 State of the Union address that "the British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa,"

It was not our intelligence, it was the British who supplied

that piece of garbage. Oh but it gets better, then you look

                              at the Downing Street memo.

It is serious indeed that things have gone on this long. This president should be impeached. His Vice president should be impeached. Feith, Rove, Rumsfield and Rice should all be FIRED. Mukassey should never have been confirmed. Goon=zales should be brought up on charges as well. This gang of criminals has done more to undermine our Constitution than any other gang of thugs in history.

We are a long way from the people who pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to bring this country into being. The yahoos currently in power have no comprehension of what the hell SACRED HONOR is.

"manipulating the justice system" They have already set up the Justice to put this into action...they went as far as to try and pass a law that would make their appointees a for live appointment. Sensible so a republican congress shot it down after a tun of pressure from the DEM in congress and MSNBC/CNN/NYTimes. Here is what scares me, they have the capacity to steal this election and then have the justices they planted rule in their favor, god knows our supreme court will.

                                http://topics.law.cornell.edu/wex/contempt_of_c...

In February, Congress held Meirs and Bolton in contempt for their refusal to testify on the same issue. As required, the contempt charges were turned over to the US Attorney in D.C. to prosecute. When they hold Rove in contempt, he too will be turned over to this U.S. attorney, who has jurisdiction. BUT.....

The D.C. US attorney is Jeffery Taylor. He was counselor to Gonzalez & Ashcroft, & was an aide to Orrin Hatch. He's in thick with CONS, and nothing will be done to these people. CONS have carefully inundated the judiciary system with their pals.

We Allowed it to happen, I think that is the biggest problem. The American People are scared to death of having to look inward, and admit we were fooled. It seems to be the popular thing to do anymore , is to try and cover it up with one bad decision after another.

                                    Conflict of interest.

I think this is one of the biggest reasons we need to get Obama or Clinton into the WH.

If the AG passes judgment or refuses to do his job because of an obvious conflict of interest, the next AG must go after Rove and all with a vengeance (wherever the Justice Dept can because Bush is going to give pardons to everybody). The next AG should also make sure that any of the AGs or other attorneys who cooperated with the Bush illegal activities loses his/her license. From Ashcroft on. And those 85 regional AGs who were NOT fired - what is wrong with them? If they had been doing their job and following their oath of duty/office, they would have been fired too. None of them should be allowed to practice law after this imo.

The key to destroying their effectiveness is exposure. When the public becomes aware of this and we start weeding these crooks out of office, they will lose power and the inside track.

Mainstream media is competing for ratings and when these subjects are highlighted on the internet they ofen challenge the msm to follow suit, because msm is beginning to lose their audiences who are starting to turn more and more to the internet and other sources for news.

Bottom line: it is up to the people to make the government work.

I'd like to see Rove and all the neocon crooks pay for what they did.

The Nuremberg trials seems to be a sample of what is needed.

We need to make sure our country is not led by the Nazi like propagandists.

Get a rope, in fact get a lot of them. Bush, Cheney, Rove, Gonzales, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Rice...

Time this country cleaned its' dirty laundry and hung it out to dry.

To prosecute because of a political party is Nazi like. Hmmmm yep. Sounds like a Bush, Rove, Cheney deal.

Put 'em over in Iraq in the front lines and let them die for what they claim to be the truth. Don't think you'd see that. The war would end because of the cowardice of those chicken hearted basta*ds.

I hope they enjoy what they reap for what they have sown.

Thanks SC for posting this. While I hope and pray that Rove will have to not only testify, have charges brought against him and jail time, I am realistic (hard not to be pessimistic with a Nazi supporting loving administration in charge.) enough to know it may not happen. I pray for the good of the Citizens of the US and future political candidates (true patriots from any party) that he is brought before congress.

It absolutely amazes me how Rove is always up to his axe in everything but at the same time he is guilty of nothing. Flat out amazing.

As for having no Congress. Right!

Which to me means 'we' have no Constitution.

Which means 'we the people' really have no 'basic rights'; only the rights granted to us by our political over-lords. Would Gobbles be proud; you bet pardner.

I don't care who wins the next Presidential election for to me it will be 'see the new boss, same as the old boss' which means the only 'change' coming is the 'change' in name of the President not the policies.

                                                  Again.

                                                  Daxn I hate all politicians!!!!!!!

They all are lying, thieving, bottom dwelling scum. The only time they can ever tell the truth is when they are in a very deep coma; which means they can't.

They all need to get an honest job for once to see how the other half has to live with their narcissistic idiocy.

                                                  & that includes Rove.

How about steering the ship away from the icebergs so we don't sink like the Titanic. Because I think the Bush neoloons think this country is unsinkable like the Titanic was supposed to be.

But like the captain of the Titanic, Bush has higher ups who are demanding full speed ahead. Idiots!!!!!!!

Sorry about the rant Spade but all politicians just ****** me off to the nines.

If we the people take our country back it will sink faster than the Titanic. America is not invincible.

What all of us need to do is to keep our so called leaders on a real short leash and never let go. If we don't like them, if they don't do right, then they can be fired before their term is up.

When they start talking force them to explain what they are talking about & why they want to do what they say they want to do. Expect a lie or a multitude of lies and force them to tell the truth even if it causes them serious psychological damage.

                                                        I'm on another rant!

Congress can get past the Attorney General.

                                                          Wexler --

"We would much prefer Mr. Rove voluntarily agreed to appear before the House Judiciary Committee, as would any other American citizen. But my view is that if he refuses to come voluntarily, we must first subpoena him, and if he refuses to honor the subpoena then the full House of Representatives must hold Mr. Rove in Contempt of Congress. And then we must ask the Attorney General to enforce the Contempt of Congress subpoena or citation. And if the Attorney General refuses to do so, which Mr. Mukasey said previously before the Judiciary Committee that he would, then I believe, reluctantly, we need to literally uphold the checks and balances that this administration has so abused and then we need to go the extraordinary step of issuing an Inherent Contempt of Congress."

Inherrent contempt. I have to wonder why they don't use it. At the very least, they should explain 'why.'

                                                              Bravo to Mr. Wexler.

And they have done this sort of thing in the past, literally hold a person in contempt of Congress, by having the Sergeant-in-Arms go get a person and then hold that person in a basement room in order to have that him appear before Congress. Maybe that is what is needed for Mr. Rove, especially if the DC US Attorney Jeffrey Taylor (or Mr. Mukasey) do not enforce the contempt citation which is sure to be issued.

Not the POPULAR vote, mind you ... he could win in the Electoral College!

If national politics could be considered warfare and if political leaders could be called generals...Carl Rove has been the political equivalent of Sun Tzu.

The concept of governance by the Executive and Judicial Branchs, was field tested in the election of Rick Perry Governor of Texas.

The Legislative branch of our government has been too concerned with re-election than with the running of our country. It has been in their best self-interest to not oppose those currently in power. Now that we are in the latter days of President Bush's administration, our representatives are finally showing that they have a spine and walk on two feet.

Problem is, Wexler's rehtoric is a little too late in the game. Sadly the treasonous individuals that suborned our country and our constitution will get away with it. Any attempt to prosecute will be met with a Presidential Pardon/Reprieve at the last moment.

Remember Newt developing the Contract With Ameerica lies and a list of derogatives for his fellow repugs to use whenever addressing a Dem? DeLay's rezoning for votes and use of the hammer and earmark?

The Bush Justice department even invaded Jefferson'e home. The fervor of 911 turned against Americans! Now he has the Robert's Court stacked definitely in his favor and still gets a sycophant named as head of the Justice Department.

"You Liberals!" I read that all the time. It is sad that some of you cannot show respect for your fellow Americans who are just as concerned about their country as you pretend you are.

Progressives and centrists, Liberals and conservatives, Yanks and Rebels ... are broad categories made up of individuals -- all of whom are supposedly Americans first. It would be wise to recover from your prejudices and resentments. It would make this country work a whole lot better.

Or how about every one of Goppy's posts? But as soon as someone makes a comment about liberals your on them like flies on sh*t. Do you hold liberals to a different standard, or was it just that time of the month when you read his post?

Sorry, the time to do something about these country stealing weasels was two elections ago. When the Senate did absolutely nothing to gut every single military program that Pres. Bush had...They lost thier credibility. They have not offered articles of impeachment, they have spouted high minded ideals, yet there has been NOTHING of substance to any of their ideals.

Dumya's threat of a veto backed by the sycophant senatorial repugs, has won the day all too often. The major media has also backed Dumya all too much! Look at all the people who stood up to Dumya only to be trashed: Marine Maj Ritter (formerly of the UN inspectin team), Al Baradei (on those aluminum tubes of Sadam), Kofi Anon (called Dumya a war criminal), the Chicks, Ambassador Joe Wilson (his wifes' case thrown out), Tom Daschle (repugs poored money into his state to beat him), Gen Shinsheki (outed by Rummy more than a year before retirement) .... so many more!

As a former elected official, I would like your ideas on how to represent our country equally?

Would limiting the amount of money(ies) spent on a campaign, to the amount one would be paid in that posistion sound good?

Would you rather the popular vote as opposed to the electoral college be used?

The problems with radical solutions to changing our government means asking, the very people that are running it, to go against their vested self-interest. Honestly it is not going to happen.

The only way that Rove can or would be held accountable will be after GW leaves office. However he will in all probability, be granted a blanket pardon for all actions taken while GW was in office. That's how these scumbags cover their butts.

I would rather substantive actions have taken place as opposed to symbolic ones. Sadly this is a race to act as if someone is doing something. Now symbolic is all that we have left.

Ask any analyst/expert in the field and they will agree with that comment. The thing is the majority of Americans believe that being too tough on terrorism will only bring more hate our way and spawn more terrorists. Its an endless cycle where we kill a terrorist, and then his family wants to kill us.

As for 9/11, all the planning was done under the watch of the Clinton administration, and it was probably Osama who gave the green light, but thats none of your concern now is it?
