Davis (R-VA) Says Republicans Too Near `Radioactive' Bush »
Posted By ybdogsct 1 year, 6 months ago in NewsPresident Bush is "radioactive," and Republicans will suffer widespread election losses in November unless they distance themselves from him, said Tom Davis (R-VA). Republicans would lose 20 to 25 House seats if the election were held today, and if Senator John McCain is seen by voters as "Bush III" he will lose by 20%, Davis co

"The new GOP slogan -- 'The Change You Deserve' -- was discovered to be trademarked ad copy for the antidepressant drug Effexor. 'Democrats, not drugs, is what the American people need,' Hoyer (D-MD) said. Referring to Effexor side effects, Hoyer said, 'Nausea, up to 58%. Actually it's higher than that for Republicans.'
'Are depression symptoms keeping you from where you want to be?' Effexor's maker, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, asks in its promotions. 'Not feeling as good as you used to?'
For House Republicans, the diagnosis is obvious: They are suffering from Election Anxiety Disorder. Tuesday night, they lost the third special election in a row to Democrats in heavily Republican congressional districts. 82% of Americans say the country is on the wrong track, and they're largely holding President Bush and his party responsible."

"Republican Leaders Explain, Slogan Is Only Payback"
Washington: The Republican National Committee on Saturday admitted that they chose their new campaign slogan because, as spokesman A. W. Heck explained, "We owe them big time."
Mr. Heck continued, "The entire pharmaceutical industry has us over a barrel. They expected lots more in return for their hundreds of millions of dollars of campaign donations than being connected to the lowest-rated presidency in history. So, we worked out a deal: we tie in with some of their lesser-known products, and they give us a break on prescriptions. These days, we need all the medication we can get."
On the horizon, Mr. Heck suggested a connection with Ritain's unofficial slogan. "We'd change it to, 'Making the minority position slightly less painful.' "
Mr. Heck then excused himself, claiming he had a doctor's appointment. "My Prozac-Percocet double header is about to wear off."

The political situation for the GOP is not good, and they aren't even trying to deny it. Asked if Tom Davis (R-VA) thought there should be a change in House GOP leadership, he brought up the 2006 election and the loss of Congress, then wondered aloud why, when "the plane is being flown into the mountain," there has been no change in direction.
Davis stomped on the concrete floor of the Capitol basement when asked by reporters about Republican fortunes at the moment. 'This is the floor,' he said, by way of explanation. 'We're below the floor.'
Davis did not spare the party and the president scathing criticism in his public comments. 'The president swallows the microphone every time he opens his mouth,' Davis said.

I really wish that Mr. Davis could replace the Republican that I currently have as a House representative. Mine barely says anything, even to the locals. I have voted for the Democratic candidate, but he gets little support from the district as a whole.

"Democrat Travis Childers won a U.S. House election in Mississippi, marking the third time since March that the party has picked up a congressional seat and increasing Republican concerns about major setbacks in the November elections. Childers got 54% of the vote to 46% for Republican Greg Davis.
The result sends 'a political thunderbolt across America' and shows the Democrats can compete everywhere. 'There is no district that is safe for Republican candidates.' Newt Gingrich wrote in the newspaper Human Events last week that unless Republicans change they will 'suffer decisive losses this November.'"

"U.S. House Republicans said an election loss in Mississippi yesterday may portend widespread voter rejection in the November races, and some are advocating distancing themselves from President George W. Bush's policies."

"Newt Gingrich wrote in the newspaper Human Events last week that unless Republicans change..."
Did he happen to suggest which direction that change should point? Over which cliff would he prefer to see the Republican party drive:
Over the one that agrees with Dems and moderate Repubs that the past seven years have been a complete fiasco, but they should stay the course anyway?
Or the one that suggests getting out of Iraq, repealing Bush's phony tax cuts and rewriting No Child Left Behind, effectively turning them into the Democratic Lite party?
Oh, I'm just waiting to hear more wisdom from the Newt!
BTW: In one of my novels, Ronnie Reagan has a change of heart after being governor, divorces Nancy and becomes a restaurant owner slash environmentalist.
Nancy, still wanting to be the First Lady at all costs, hooks up with what I described as "a low-life politico from Georgia named Newt." (:^D)

Wow. You posted that just to insult someone on a subject that has nothing to do with this thread.
And you still support the idiot in the White House that every Republican now won't touch with a thirty foot pole. The same president who is, according to the Republicans, going to lose this election for a whole lot of Republicans.
Who's the smart one here?

"Shellshocked Republicans got warnings from leaders Tuesday: Your party's message isn't good enough to prevent disaster in November, and neither is the NRCC's money.
The double shot of bad news had one veteran Republican House member worrying aloud that the party's electoral woes have the Republican Conference splitting apart in 'everybody for himself' mode."

The reality is it will take everyone alive now with memories of what the republicans did, to be dead, for them to be given another opportunity to destroy America again. I hope the Libertarians realize the opportunity they have right now to replace the GOP as the home of political fiscal conservatism and smaller government, they could easily do it if they reject the politicians who are simply republicans who have been indicted. (Bob Barr is not a real libertarian folks, he was a major supporter of the "drug war", a constitutional amendment banning gay marraige, and a signer of the patriot act- hardly libertarian notions!) We don't want the rat's jumping off the ship to simply put on new hats. (Ironically it was the libertarian party whose ads revealed Barr's stance on medical marijuana that many say lost him his seat in congress. Yet now he is the nominee?, now that's a flip flop!)

Republicans have a FAR bigger problem than an unpopular President. They have to completely reinvent the party, or at least bring back the GOP of Eisenhower's day.
They have to abandon the fear and smear politics that seeks to destroy the "United" States in favor of carving out wedge issue voting blocks.
They have to quit trying to shout down every rational discussion with endless talking points that, if analyzed, are utterly meritless.
They have to quit being shills for the ultra wealthy and proponents of corporate welfare.
They have to abandon fear mongering and instead come up with a rational foreign policy that will actually make America safer. Our current RepugniCon foreign policy was written exclusively by and for major defense contractors, and has left America far more vulnerable to attack and everlasting war.
They have a problem that goes WAY beyond inventing a better advertising slogan.

America is not safe or free as long as it follows the fascist Israeli Zionist policies that is not only harming America but also harming the world. I don't think even the Democrats could make a big change in America's present condition. Bush has don't irreparable damage to this great country by his short sighted policies. World really hates America.
