Reagan gambled (correctly) that the already weak Soviet bear could not economically support an escalated arms race. It was a risky gambit. This contributed to record debt added under Reagan. Bush has trounced that number threefold. It's not Bush I would worry about it's Cheney. He makes the calls on FP. Bush's sqeaky denials of this are good for a laugh. "I am the decider", yes, and Paul was the walrus and the walrus is dead. I am sure that reference will go way over someones head as several others have today.
The fact this article was written by Michelle Malkin says enough. Truly she is one of the few con commentators of whom I typically discard their opinion. Whining is not journalism. I think her anger stems from some type of sexual frustration. Or maybe constipation. Because she is always way too bound up.

LOL
Why do liberals think that a Republican presidents let others make their decisions for them? Ford, Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 were all supposed to let someone else make their decisions. Everything I have heard about what went on at the cabinet meetins says they let everyone express their point of view and then they make up their own mind. Sometimes against advice. However that would make them intelligent and that just can't be. Liberals can't accept the Republican presidents are intelligent.
Reagan was ridiculed for his "Star Wars" technology push but it works and the Democrats said it couldn't be done. Just like White Flag Harry and hug your enemy Pelosi said we couldn't win in Iraq. On another story on Propeller an upset jihadist complains about how they have really lost in Iraq and put up facts and figures proving it.

That all sounds logical until you realize Reagan was let off the hook due to "plausible deniability" regarding Iran-Conta. This defense means it is logical to conclude that he was not aware of what his subordinates were doing. Those to who he had delegated authority. In particular Bill Casey. By the way considering the trillions we have spent on Star Wars we know have the potential ability (many tests have failed) to stop a single or perhaps two or three missiles but the system would be overwhelmed by an attack exceeding that level.
GW Bush did exactly as you say, he took counsel regarding whether to push forward to Baghdad he didn't listen to one, but rather all sides. Thank especially James Baker for that.
It is horrifingly obvious that in this administration that the VP is calling the shots regarding foreign policy. Neoconservatve idealogy rules.

I doubt Bush could anymore tell you what a neocon was at the beginning of his term than tell you the difference between a Sunni and Shia. He was a blank slate that has been written all over. He can claim to be "the decider" but seeing him in those briefings after Katrina showed his true colors. All of the important decisions have been decided from the neo-con point of view. Chyeney's has been the dominant voice. And as all we know Cheney is not one to compromise or listen to others opinions. That is the problem. He has made this a black and white world when there are so many subtle hues. GW Bush was never meant to be President. God certainly didn't ordain him. He has been a weak, spineless, ineffectual commander in contrast to the virulent cowboy image he once tried to portray.
