May 21, 2008, 2:18 a.m.For those of you who have yet to see "Cinema Paradiso" I can only say SEE IT!
Allow me to quickly summarize this wonderful film. In a small town in Italy a young boy befriends a grumpy old projectionist. The village priest attends a private screening of every film to be shown, ringing a bell at every kiss, indicating that the projectionist is to remove these "offending" bits from the film. Years, well, a lifetime later the projectionist has died and the young boy, now a filmmaker himself, has been willed a cannister of film. He gives it to a projectionist and sits alone watching...
As all those stolen kisses play out on the screen before him. Kiss after kiss after kiss, comic, tragic, lusty, romantic. It's the perfect ending and simply put the most beautiful and romantic and just plain HUMAN moment in the history of film. I hope you love this scene as much as I do.

May 21, 2008, 10:20 p.m.Certainly a top 10 all time;
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095765/
Right there close to it a bit lower another of same era 'The big Blue'
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095250/
Makes you reconsider how effective emotional and mental image can a big budget film leave to you when those 2 still achieve it minimally and efficiently 20 years later.
If you happen to drop a tear or two in these films try to reconsider the reason. I bet you will realize it is the reminiscence of your early youth and your own personal life long choices that are playing a 'tears of purpose' game to your eyes, not the tragic entanglement of the heros involved literally... The kid, the mother, the mentor, the friends, the lover, the emerging white hair in them all, the punishing and rewarding passage of time that finally connects all humanity and offers the lasting perspective a taste of the truly important.
Just make sure you see the directors cut 170m (15 or 47 extra min time depending on version)

May 21, 2008, 11:33 a.m.Truly beautiful film.
BUT!
Seeing the clip of the last three minutes without seeing the film is like making love without foreplay.

May 21, 2008, 7:53 p.m.A great ending to a wonderful film. I concur with "ind06", it's definitely in the top five. (And if you don't cry before it's over, you're not human.)
