Certainly a top 10 all time;
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095765/
Right there close to it a bit lower another of same era 'The big Blue'
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095250/
Makes you reconsider how effective emotional and mental image can a big budget film leave to you when those 2 still achieve it minimally and efficiently 20 years later.
If you happen to drop a tear or two in these films try to reconsider the reason. I bet you will realize it is the reminiscence of your early youth and your own personal life long choices that are playing a 'tears of purpose' game to your eyes, not the tragic entanglement of the heros involved literally... The kid, the mother, the mentor, the friends, the lover, the emerging white hair in them all, the punishing and rewarding passage of time that finally connects all humanity and offers the lasting perspective a taste of the truly important.
Just make sure you see the directors cut 170m (15 or 47 extra min time depending on version)

That extra time from the international version makes all the difference. Do not see this film unless you have the full 170 min available. And by the way this is one propeller story you should see the comments and skip viewing the content. You will thank me for following both suggestions... The shorter versions make the mistake to provide no satisfactory closure and are missing one important fine detail that makes the difference not at the romantic level they reveal but at the point of early critical choice that determines a lifetime and puts free will into question.
