A very small town in Massachusetss called Maynard is only 5 square miles huge. In this town, which has several police cruisers, each one travels more than 100,000 miles per year.
Cops NEED to get used to using boots and bikes. Maybe their hands, too, instead of being ****** and just tasering everyone.
Please DON'T tell me how they're "out there everyday", because I and everybody else already know that they rotate from station to street, and they get paid $50-plus per hour for useless, but state-mandated traffic details for utilities work.

You are cluless and have a chip on your shoulder! Maybe you dont want the cops to get to your moms house quickly when someone is breaking in but I sure would....Mass is a state where you are OBLIGATED to leave your domicile rather then confront an intruder. Would you rather they beat the snot out of a resister rather then tempoarily imobiliozing him /her with a taser?
Police details...I can post atleast a dozen artiicles where Police officers on details thwarted or apprehended criminals in Mass THIS YEAR.

Who knows this could reduce crime when police are actually on the street they might see and hear more and just their presence might deter crime. It also might further community relations when people see a cop and get to know him and his name they respond differently than to cops in cars.

Two police in a car is safer than just one. Think about it, trouble with people using cell phones while driving, and then think about a cop trying to type on his/her in-car computer's keyboard, using the radio, and driving, all at once - just what we need, an officer running over a child. The second person in the car could handle the communications while the first does the driving.
And I agree, getting out there and knowing the people in the neighborhood is good. How many times have you heard of a crime, and no leads? Why, because no-one trusts someone you don't know. And just think, instead of paying for donuts and coffee they just may get a free glass of milk, and home baked cookies.
