Our National Festival of Human Sacrifice »
Posted By populist 1 year, 6 months ago in NewsThis Memorial Day let there be a popular call for an end to human sacrifice of the young, poor, & uneducated. Rather than ceremonial mass bloodshed to stimulate our economy, let's sacrifice the King & his court, who led us time & again into needless wars that, rather than increasing our general wealth, have raised the price of gas &

If we truly want to see an end to war we need to start by looking withing ourselves. For each of us has the power to focus on what we desire (peace and prosperity) instead of reacting to what we see every day. Change your thoughts, change your reality, change the world!

It needs to go further than thoughts.
The society and culture we have built are the equations which yield the result of war. We need to redesign our communities on a most fundamental level so that we can prosper on our own resources and not have to invade other countries. We will have an end to war when we eliminate its economic incentive.
And beyond that, we need to teach young people that it is not OK to take up arms against people who they have never met and who have done them no harm, and that if the government says otherwise, it must be vigorously resisted.

Here is a scholarly article that addresses the lie we're told about why our loved ones must die in senseless wars:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/hornberger/hornberge...
We really need to break out of this mass hypnosis that war is in any way beneficial, or the blowback is going to be more and more painful.

Thank you for the link. Everyone should read that article and all of it. I don't totaly agree with everything he says but just about everything except the remedy to the problem and the possible outcome.
He says the remedy is to dismantle the standing army. I say the remedy is to take the army away from the Executive.
He says the possible outcome if nothing is done could be more wars etc and more loss lof freedom. I disagree.
That is the most optomistic outcome. A much more certain and disasterous outcome is that some day those that we are oppressing will defeat us in the war, bringing home to us the death and devastation that we seem to continually inflict on others.
I certainly agree with this article. It is on point.

Yeah! Politicize Memorial Day. W00t! Oh well, I'm just a silly person who thinks to remember the sacrifices of Americans with honor and dignity. I choose to think that the soldiers are adults who can make decisions on their own (notice the volunteer status of the military) and they are not sheep lead to the slaughter. Simple difference in opinion. It is too bad some can't take 1 day to honor and memorialize the fallen without trying to destroy the time for everyone. God bless us, everyone!

"Yeah! Politicize Memorial Day."
Every side politicizes Memorial day. Bush uses it to push his warmongering agenda and the left use it to remind people that thousands are dying and tens of thousands wounded for the profiteering war in Iraq.
Honor those who fight for freedom, to be sure, but remember that this Administration has taken away more freedoms and done more to destroy the balance of power within the Republic than any other before it.

Kisa, the soldiers pledged to defend the country and the constitution... and have kept that faith even when Dumya hasn't.
The soldiers committed by Dumya to attack Sadam were committed under lies and absolutely no diplomacy... what a failure in faith to our soldiers to do all possible before committing them.
Our soldiers are more than willing to go to war when the country is really threatened... which has in no way been the case with Iraq, you Bush sycophant (get a real conscience please)!

I don't think that invading a country that posed no imminent threat to the security of the United States - solely to buttress crony oil company and defense company profits - is what our nation's Founders had in mind. It certainly has not helped our freedom or liberty any more than it has for the Iraqis who have been liberated from their mortal coils.
This is a sad stain on our history and upon our brave troops who have been pressed into the commission of this misadventure by a war criminal-in-chief.

Super Article that speaks to the devaluation of what should be a ceremony of rememberance of sacrifice for freedom.
We have become the "Modern Rome" and are too busy attending the "Lions vs Christians' or the "Gladiators" in the forum to remember what was once dear to a freedom seeking people.

Is the Mr. Kemp trying to market himself as a journalist or something? He wasn't successful. Some of the people out here can smell the difference between that, and another half-wit propogandist. Seems a product of the liberalized institutions of education. Not inspiring clear thought, but trying to plant seedlings of spun thought. Some of us out here can still see a few things. Keep reading the meanderings of pawns like this blindly, and say goodbye to intelligent reason.....

I don't think any of the dead considered whether they were Liberals or Conservatives. I'm sure there were both. I'm not sure that they all were capable of clear thought or Intelligent Reasoning. But one thing they all have in common is that they are dead.
In contrast the article addressed the ability of the elite few that often start wars for profit, to avoid the ultimate committment, they won't be in those graves. Who will fill the graves of the fallen in a "for profit" war-say Iraq War, will hopefully have died believing in their cause, but that still leaves the profit seekers, alive to build their bank accounts and do planning for the next "For Profit" venture.
These Profit Seekers come in all colors of ism. And you can be sure they have clear thought of mission and Intelligent Reasoning to accomplish the maximum return.

"Never ceases to amaze me. Why do people hate the society they choose to live in?"
It never ceases to amaze me that people can live in a society and not acknowledge that there are flaws, that a country can always be better and not work towards a better nation.

I don't hate America. I love this country. I see people that are willing to destroy what America stands for, to profit from conflict and fear. I submit that these are the people who don't love America. I call them the people who "use" the goodness of America for their profit motives.
They are the immoral "bad apples" and they continue to give America a bad name around the world.
Real Americans stand against War Profiteers and there are profiteers here. I submit that the majority of the leaders we have in Washington have been corrupted by these "Blood Profiteers". These are the people who don't give a damn about America.
Unfortunately they get enabled by Americans who play the Party First game.

It never ceases to amaze me that some would ridicule societal members who ask that their nation conduct itself with the integrity of the promise it began with.

One of the problems I feel which has afflicted America for the most part is this 'profit' motive. No matter what the circumstance, there are those who will find a way gaining profit from it.
As a result, we've become more insensitive and detached towards the holidays which once meant more than just having the day off, going on vacation, or having sales. Whereas there are a few who do honor those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, most simply go through the motions just to 'feel better,' before resuming their daily ritual of eating and shopping.
Which, in turn, allow the profiteers continuing to go about their business unabated.
Personally, when I read these articles, I find it refreshing knowing there are still people out there who know the true reason why we celebrate these holidays, and honor those who fought for what they believed in, rather than observe it as another 'feel good' holiday for alleviating their guilt of selfish commercialism.

The article rather throws the baby out with the bathwater, if you ask me.
What country doesn't sacrifice its young to ensure its own hegemony?
We have, however, achieved a degree of commercialization--or commodification--that increasingly threatens to do us in--that counters the common good, and thus clouds our future.
Let us honor those who have died for us AND work to achieve a more humane society. This involves a degree of disassociation from material "rewards" that compromise rather than promote happiness.
How to begin?
One small step for American-kind: turn off the TV.

Yes lets see this nation exist without the blood shed during the revolutionary war. Lets see slavery ended without the blood shed during the civil war. Lets see the survival of the Jewish race without the blood shed during WWII. Lets see the collapse of the Soviet Union without the blood shed during the Cold War. Lets see the defense of America against terrorism without the blood shed today.
I think we can all agree that war is ugly, and given the choice we would not want it. But the fact is there will always be events and periods that call for the defense of freedom. As the Greeks used to believe, war is a necessary evil. Hopefully in the future this evil will be eliminated. But in the meantime, lets not use the holiday to cry about it, and lets honor those who have fallen for the good that war has brought.

Didn't Gandhi lead a revolution that was peaceful? Hopefully we are mentally evolving from the days of the American Revolution, though I appreciate their sacrifice. Nobody talked them into going to some foreign country to make their stand; they fought for their home and their freedom. We are doing the opposite: fighting for Afghanistan and Iraq, while losing our freedom to freely travel in our own country.
Slavery was ended in most countries before we did, and generally by peaceful means. What was your point again, cloud 15, about the benefits of war?

Not all soldiers who are there or who have died were there voluntarily, only in the most technical of senses. I know first hand at least 20 who had no inkling that they would wind up there. They are young folks, barely out of their teens, who did short tours during peacetime and went into the reserves, naively thinking that they would never actually have to go to war. They had never experienced anything remotely resembling a real conflict and never dreamed that they would! They were working and raising their families, and were completely caught off guard when they were summoned back to active duty. These babies cried. They cried for themselves, they cried for their children, they cried for their parents, and they cried for the future. The realization that they might not come back home hit them hard, and left them full of fear and regret, but they went. They had NO choice.
