Posted By nightcrawlerX 1 year, 7 months ago in StyleWhen the Japanese get their hands on anything Western they are notorious for going all Dracula-Frankenstein on it, trans-morphing it into something new and freaky and often hilarious. wow, this stuff is so so so dated!!!
if you travel to japan now, don't expect to see this type stuff; or YMO (yellow magic orchestra), you'll be lucky if you could catch up with Riyuchi Sakamoto doing a totally different style, cutting edge, with his daughter Miu (if you can even get a ticket, standing room only).
this video by YMO was, like, early 80's stuff. {*_*}

You're quite correct, KBS. The music scene in Japan is almost ridiculously fluid -- YMO were one of the few to really stay the course for a good few years -- but it's a tremendously vibrant scene, with huge numbers of rock concerts, "live" houses, TV band shows, etc., etc. And if you live in one of the 4 big metropolises, it's excellent for catching world-class bands and just about anyone who's doing a "world tour". There're also an enormous number of oddball shows, that just suddenly come to town.
Just last night (26th) I saw the incredible Bob Log the 3rd at a tiny live house in the center of this city. This Arizona native put on a breath-taking show of unique one-man band zany rock.

Battlecry was used for the opening sequence of the anime "Samurai Champloo", in equally kick ass style. I'm sure it's on Youtube somewhere if you haven't seen it already.
I've been told songs aren't often written for animes so much as they pick already popular songs for the opening/ending themes. Anyone know if that's true? Just randomly curious.
