not true ranchhand... the restrictions regarding land ownership in mexico have much to do with proximity to water. for example foreigners can only own property that is "x" distance from a coast. coastal "ownership" is in the form of a "lease". it is different there but it is not true that you may not own land as a foreigner.

    ... as a foreigner in mexico one can only own property that is at least 50km from the coast. closer to the coast only 99 yr leases are permitted. where was your son's wife looking?
